I truly believe that we are all told that when we retire we are supposed to travel, and do all these activities! I’m so glad I’m not alone in the idea that I don’t care about travel! I don’t mind a little but I have no desire to travel the world! I want our retirement to be relaxing and calm! “Slow living is happy living”…best quote ever!
Although I work out and walk every single day except for Sunday, I have no desire to travel at all. My husband passed away 10 years ago and I live alone with my dog, and I am very content the way my lifestyle is.
@@FaithyandOtis..Massachusetts sorry to hear about your husband but I’m happy that you are enjoying your retirement life! That’s what it’s supposed to be all about!
I agree. I have traveled and back in the day it was affordable and fun . Now a days it is work and I feel I enjoyed the countries I visited. Right now I do like my laid back lifestyle. Glad to hear others feel the same living simply.
It's funny how many people think that traveling is something all retirees should do. I'm content working on projects in my home and seeing more of the sights in my town.
Having retired at age 53, I am now in my early 60s. Many pushed back against me, unable to understand the idea of not working if it's not necessary. I perceived phases in my life. In my latter years, I owe it to myself to "stop and smell the roses," even if I worked very hard to obtain what I have now. For me, after retiring, I departed the nation and now reside in Latin America. It made me appreciate my new surroundings while removing myself from all the bad things that were going on in America. Nobody I've met regrets retiring, as far as I know.
Nice way to retire. For me, I believe retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My wife and I both spent same number of years in the civil service, she invested through a wealth manager and myself through the 401k. We both still earning after our retirement fund has grown way more than it would have with just the 401(k). Haha.
It's unfortunate most people don't have such information. I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than a million dollars by just investing through an advisor, and I don't have to do much work. Doesn't matter if the economy is misbehaving; great wealth managers will always make returns.
I think this is something I should do, but I've been stalling for a long time now. I don't really know which firm to work with; I feel they are all the same but it seems you’ve got it all worked out with the firm you work with so i surely wouldn’t mind a recommendation.
I'm a 60 year-old African American woman from L.A. Hoping to retire next year so that I can live the simple life. Whilst my daughter and other family members are well traveled, I prefer home. I also love to read and watch my "Hallmark" holiday movies. I am so glad that I came across this channel.
My husband is 90 and I’m 87, we are in good health and have been retired for 24 years, living in a senior apt. Where they have a lot of games and activities. No dinners so I still have to cook. Boo! My favorite thing is sitting here in the quiet. He goes to the next town to play chess twice a week, yea! Simple is good!
Fellow introvert here. At 56, I’m retired, rarely wear makeup, enjoy walking and gardening, and just generally enjoy my “me” time. Thanks for your videos. Greetings from Winnipeg.
I’m in WA state and am a recent widow at age 82. I’m in the difficult process of decluttering, learning to do things I never had to do before, and letting go of my whole life up till now. I’ve watched hundreds of videos. But yours is the first one I’ve watched that calmed me. I’m an introvert and our world was extrovert and activity based. I glimpsed through your video the simplicity I dream of bringing into my life. Thank you so much.
I I am hoping for the best for you. People think simplicity is easy, but it’s actually hard work. But it is so worth it for the calm and peace it brings into one’s life.
At 56 I can't wait to retire, never had a kids or time out and I'm getting to the end of my tether.. I'd love to move away but have elderly parents 81yr old, one came out of hospital yesterday. So won't be going anywhere, I'm in UK.. It's miserable.. I crave peace more than anything.. Good luck to you ❤
teresajones - I totally agree with you. Am happiest at home & am actually enjoying a quiet & frugal life. It's amazing how content I am with a simple life. Best wishes from Sydney, Australia
There r so many people on this thread that make me smile. I like living simply . Been retired 12 yrs. I have done the traveling that I want to do. Not the whole world but enough to make me happy and having gratitude for being able to have traveled. I am glad I found your channel. Thank u for what u do
Well, I'm ashamed of myself but I'm very happy. I don't exercise, but I'm not overweight, I eat what I want, I don't spend money on decorations any more, If I'm not going out I spend my day in pijamas, I don't open the door to anybody, I don't want to be bothered, I live frugal because I have to not because I want to, 😆 I know im terrible. I don't have a routine. I hear many people talking about routines makes them happy, in my case going with the flow makes me happy. I guess I'm not UA-cam material 😂.
lol, nothing wrong with that. My entire adage is about living in joy! We all derive joy, happiness and comfort differently. There 2.5 BILLION people who watch UA-cam every month…there are people out there who are just like you and want to interact with someone who they can identify with… there’s definitely a place for UA-cam for everyone. The reason I started my channel was because I couldn’t find a channel that I identified with… so I made one.
I don't have a "routine" but I do need to take a few minutes to think about the day and list a couple of goals for the day --if if it is "deal with tomatoes" or such. I don't want to be totally aimless. I keep a habit tracker to check off things like basic hygiene because l let things slip otherwise.
I hate routine too Angelica. I was a nurse for 44 years working rotas so to have the freedom to live and do what I want when I want in my retirement years is great.
As promised, I am going back to your old videos. I love taking my walks with my beautiful dog Otis Ray. I do my upper body strength training three days a week. I will be 74 November 9th. I love to read, but the main thing is I love to get out and walk. It’s a wonderful way to refresh your mind. have a blessed day, my friend and stay safe.
This is a great reminder for me. I'm packing for travel tomorrow and realizing how little I really need to take with me. I'm making a promise to myself that when I return, I commit to start with the garage and go thru each room in the house and clear the clutter. That is my birthday gift to myself (and my children) at 83yrs. It's never too late to start. Thank you.
As one introvert to another, I get it and agree with you completely. I am turning 75 in a few days and am so grateful to want less in the way of material possessions . I am in the letting go stage of my life and I find it very freeing. Thanks for your inspirational words!
I’m at the halfway point and had to pause to comment on how much I love your outlook Raina. It really speaks to me. The older I am, the more I crave a simple and comfortable life. Thank you for sharing some of your life and lovely surroundings.
Awwwwww! Thank you. I always feel like I sound like a dork when I look back in some of my videos. 😂😂 Slow living just makes me happy I guess so I like to share it with other people.
I retired at 59 due to poor health. I am struggling, but i do find comfort in your videos. I can't afford many extras and have a tight budget, to say the least. Your videos give me hope and are an example of a way forward for me. Thank you.
What a sweet and kind note - thank you. I am so happy my videos resonate with you. I hope you keep yourself as well as you can. Poor health is so distressing and challenging.
@SweetSparow Are you still sick? If so you do not need be. Psalm 103:3 promises us healing. We just need to ASK God and then believe Him for it. Each day, you will improve, and thank Him for each symptom that leaves or improves. You will get well!!!
Thank you for your thoughtful , meaningful, and kind message. I am very religious as well and I do pray for healing and a way forward. May God bless you for your kindness and Raina for bringing us together in this way. it means more to me than you know. ❤
Oh Raina, I agree with your tips. Since I retired, I’ve changed a lot of things in my life ( my husband was ok) . Now we have new and modern furniture, not a lot of decorative things (accessories) and it makes my life peaceful and my mind very calm. I like going to the cinema and like you less is more about wardrobe and makeup. I didn’t realize how we change when we are retired. Thank you for your excellent videos, good job 👍 😀😘
I have accidentally retired at 50. I took time off work to help my Mum when my Dad died from a stroke last year, and just haven't returned. Looking back I had major burn out and anxiety from being self employed. I love my slower life now, I have time for my family and can be the stay at home Mother that I wanted to be when my children were at school even tho they are leaving home now. 😭I am embracing my introvertedness and am enjoying "right now" with no routine! Life is short and it's so important to do what makes you happy.
This is my first time watching your channel! I retired over 10 years ago at age 57, and my husband (who is 8 years younger than I am) continued to work his full-time job. That is, until July of this year. He has been in a very unique career that, sadly, is diminishing: he was a classical music radio announcer. I was scheduled for total knee replacement therapy (which took place 9/9 of this year). He was a one-man show in his job, and never had time off anymore. He knew that unless he left his job he would be unable to be around to help me in the crucial first few weeks after surgery.. He decided to go into semi-retirement, and his last day was the last day of July. We've only had this past couple of months as retirees together, but it's been fine, and we, too, have learned to live more simply. And, oh, my recovery from surgery is going great guns!
My mantra over the past year or so, 'I just want to live simply and enjoy life', I think we may be onto something. Keep your great content coming, pkease. I am thoroughly enjoying them💓💃🏾
So grateful that the algorithm sent your videos in my direction! I have one month of employment left until I retire and I have been contemplating what my life will look like from November for some time. I'm really enjoying your perspective, both for the resonance and the challenges to my thought processes. Thank you!
I just came across this video and found it very useful and informative. I agree with all of your points. When it comes to exercise, I go to three exercise classes a week because I know I will NOT exercise at home and for the purposes of socialization. I enjoy the exchanges before and after the class. I do have my precious pup and so do walk everyday. Now I could not do without him. I having been moving towards a much more simple life. If there are more than 5 ingredients in a recipe, then I don't make it. I have done much decluttering over the past three years snd when I look around my home, I get a deep sense of satisfaction from the calmness of my spaces. Routines are a must for me and having a spot for everything is a life saver. I love reading and will read almost anything. It became an such an expensive hobby that now I borrow books from the library, from our neighbourhood book exchange shelves, from my retired grp book exchange and my exercise grp book exchange. Haven't bought a book in years unless it is one that been highly recommended and if I can't borrow, will then maybe buy it, depending upon whether it fits into my budget. Yes I have a budget that I follow monthly. I used to be an huge impulse buyer and that haf to stop. A budget helps me do that Thank you for this. You have given me much to think about. 🤗 I think I will subscribe to your channel.
Thank you for watching and for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment. Aren’t pets wonderful? They definitely make sure that we get some walking in. I don’t have any pets but I am THAT person who greets all the dogs I meet on my daily walks. I had a kitty for 19 years and when she passed I couldn’t make myself get another pet 😿
This is a great list! You have my sympathy with clearing out a family home. Both my husbands and my parents had next to nothing, saving was more important to them but even so clearing out both houses was an overwhelming job. When it was completed we came home and started clearing out our small house and we have stayed focused on no extras.
OK, I did have a little giggle about your comment. After I got back from cleaning out mom and dad‘s place and dealing with all of that, I literally like purged, probably half my house. And then for months after I was needing to go and buy things that I got rid of that I actually needed.😂😂
Loved this video as I relate so much and am very close to retirement. I am also an introvert that loves being at home with my pets and I also exercise at home and walk when it is not super cold like now. I live in Quebec Canada. The one thing I wish to do when I retire is to minimise more as I have a very small apartment and way too much clutter. I realise when I do a big clean up every week that I feel my place is not to my satisfaction because I have too much. Renaissance and other good will shops will be inheriting lots soon. When that project is complete I wish to start writing. I also love to paint. Thanks so much for all you share! God bless you!
It's amazing how much lighter you'll feel when you minimize your possessions and create the space to write and paint! Though to be fair, it’s really hard to purge things. By the way, I absolutely love Quebec. I used to go there for work a lot, and both Montreal and Quebec city are amazing. When I first moved to Canada, I lived in Montreal for the first three years so French was actually my first language I learned in Canada English was my third language. Czech is my first.
Hello from Boston, MA. I am a new subscriber and just stumbled upon your video. Worked as an RN and retired at 75 years. At 77, I find myself at peace and quite content. Less shopping, simpler meals, basic wardrobe all resonate with me. Looking forward to getting to know you better. God bless! PS Love your apartment - your lovely and unique good taste! I too love plants and flowers. 💐
I love living simply, own very little love to clean and purge its a great feeling. Even paint colour is neutral. It’s calming. I am also in Canada, Toronto. I am very introverted. Like to be home and clean and putter. So happy in my home with my cat. We don’t need much. I am very content. I can relate to your videos and lifestyle. Thank you. 🙏🏼
Im definitely a big time “people person,” mother of a large family, and grandmum to many- but as bn I’m aging & my hubby & I have retired, I’m finding I need to train myself to simplify, scale back my activity levels, and learn to be more restful. Making sure my environment is less and less cluttered is helping me quiet my soul and be content in the richness of less. I think I’ll be tagging along with your videos for awhile to help me navigate this quieter, new-to-me terrain!
Hi Raina, my name is Anna 😊 I have just watched your video and it’s made me feel soothed and comforted. I have at least a decade to my retirement or more, but I gravitate towards some values of yours like slow living, small pleasures, no need for big things. Please continue sharing with us. Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱
I left the workplace after a cancer diagnosis last year at 54. Although I am in full remission thankfully, I am currently disabled. I should be depressed, mainly because of an extreme reduction in my finances, yet I find myself oddly at peace. I find life much more intentional and fulfilling. I'm so glad I found this channel. Like you I attend various events in my area. I live near parks that have movie nights and free theater productions. I also attend free lectures and seminars. Life is better now in some ways than before.
I am so glad you are doing fine with your health right now. Health issues are, I think, one of the more common reasons why people retire much sooner than they expected.
@HealthScienceForHomeschoolers I, too, am in a very situation. I retired early , in my 50's due to ill health( including cancer), and I, too, am also disabled. This channel has been a wonderful resource. Thank you, raina, for bringing kindred spirits together in this forum. It means a lot to know we are not alone. ❤️
You just described an ideal, simple and balanced life. I'm not retired yet but I'm over 50, recently separated and getting divorce and l just started a new life on my own. I haven't been so happy and at peace for a long time! Your tips are mine and I 'm almost looking forward to my retirement to have more free time for more creative activities or cultural outings. Keep going, your channel is so inspiring and reassuring!
I totally agree with the joys of exercising at home. I do have to go to the local center to lap swim. My indulgence is wellness focused so I splurged on a fabulous hot tub and infrared sauna for my home when I retired and use almost daily. Keeping my life simple brings me such peacefulness I’m 70 and have always been a happy introvert. There are so many ways to find simple peace.
I love the simplicity and hope to be retiring within the next six years or so. I'm an introvert also, 56.5 years old and it sounds like you're living your best life.
I love your simple life tips. I already live by almost all of them. I feel I have a clearer mind living simply. I'm also more conscious of my money spending. Thanks for all your life tips. Keep up the great work on your videos.
Hello 👋 I’m from Calgary as well. Just found your channel and I’m enjoying your videos. It’s nice to see someone from Canada on here. I enjoy being at home crafting and cleaning my house. My husband is a trucker so I’m alone a lot but I’m happy. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos. 😊
AMEN no seasonal decor. One of my best memories was putting everything my husband and I owned in 1 Honda civic and left for 9mn., most wonder time ever. I thought this was crazy, but it was so freeing everything we owned had to fit in this small car. When my mom passed my 2 sisters had to travel to her house for 1 year every single week-end, with 1-3 construction dumpsters went and tossed and went through everything I know when my husbands mom passed away out of state we had to travel on wk-ends nightmare and go through everything it was horrible-I would not wish this on anyone so we have said no we will not do this to our child as we age we are paring down each year we keep what we use and give away what we don't
Oof, I feel you with the travelling. Our parents lived in a different province so my sister and I had to travel as well to deal with this kind of stuff.
Very good points. Clutter and anxiety - they do go together. Good point. On the simple food, I like to make large mixed vegetable soups, with barley, lentil sometimes, and freeze portions. It is so good on a cold evening or if you are perhaps not feeling so good to take a portion out and have a really good meal - adding a piece of chicken or meatballs, also in freezer. A protein on the side.
I retired at 57 & I'm living on a modest income and still can help family when the need is there. Friends, co-workers thought it was too early claiming I would miss working. Never gave it a though, never missed it, done with the routine of always been on someone else's clock. ( 19 yrs to 57) Only on my time now doing exactly what I like when I like. Enjoying reasonable health (aches and pains of getting old -73 now) but God is good. Reading, stamp and coin collecting are my hobbies. Subscribing, I loved the video.
You're very refreshing! It's nice to come across a woman close to my age on this platform that isn't talking about fashion although I love that but down to earth is always good to see. New sub!
Greetings from South Africa. Thank you, such great advice! I turn 60 in January, and plan to retire at 62, so lots to do to simplify my life before then
I really enjoyed your tips on living simply! I think you and I share a similar vibe! I have just recently sold my home, downsized and living in an apartment. I’m learning to live on a tight budget. Thanks! ❤
35 yr old guy here. You give me motivation to be active all my life. I love to see previous generations still being active and caring about their bodies. Keep it up
I’m a homebody introvert too and hate clutter makes me anxious and claustrophobic. Definitely Less is more. Love your plants and glad I found your channel. I’ll have to check your other videos would love to see how you decorated your place in a minimalistic and peaceful way.
Hi Raina, I stumbled onto your video. I liked the fact that you are Canadian. I live in southern Manitoba with my husband who is 79. He is 16 years older than I am and we have been retired for many years now. We live in the country where it is very calm and quiet. I like the term slow living and believe we live that type of life. But, just because we live a slow life doesn’t mean we aren’t doing things. We use only wood stoves for heat. My husband cuts and hauls all the wood from our property that we burn. We also have a big vegetable garden. We love our property and the beauty of it is hard to get enough of. We are not living a life of turmoil and make decisions in our life to keep it tranquil. Enjoyed your video. Looking forward to watching more of them.
Welcome here. Your life sounds wonderful. I have a friend who lives a life that seems similar to yours. I just came back from spending two days with her at their acreage and it was absolutely wonderful. Except for the sound of wild animals, I heard nothing else. I had the soundest of sleep I’ve had in months.
retired for 2 years and I am already doing most of the things that you describe. It took these 2 years for me to settle in, and I guess it has taken this long for my nervous system to calm and not be screaming at me to get busy, do something, don't you have somewhere to be, like right now ?! I have slowly simplified, and found that using the principle of living simply can be applied to every area and does take some adjustment. I had lived what I realize now was a un-necessarily complicated life, and who knows why. I continue to find ways to look at my lifestyle differently, and say out loud " what if ? " and then let it go. I have decluttered my home and now I'm going to use your idea of dressing simply and pare down my wardrobe and only have what I actually use in this new leisure, at-home and casual life that I get to enjoy after working so hard for so many years.
At 54 I decided to work remotely when I was given the option. No more suits, no more scheduled manicures, and I went natural with my hair. I’m living a simpler life and saving so much money ☺️I can fully retire sooner. Great videos I love your videos.
You are truly amazing. Love the content. I live in Ontario, turning 50 and thinking about ways to save more money for my retirement. Trying to declutter the house from all the nick nacks you pick up over the years! Keep the content coming.❤
I came across your retrenchment video and viewed some more. Love your content especially how you deal with life. I have had a bumpy road so I totally get you. I am from South Africa so life is very different here. Keep making these inspirational videos Raina. You're doing good and thank you for sharing .
Great video! Resonates with me. I’m in my 60s and still working, but consciously training myself for retirement. Cutting costs, decluttering, adopting frugality. This mindset has really helped me develop calm in my life. ❤ 🇨🇦
New to this channel. I’m 63 married and live in England. I’ve recently part retired so only work 2 days a week now but once a week, volunteer at our local infant school to hear the children read but I feel I’m going to take on board a lot of what you say. I need to downsize clothes, and generally stuff! Homesense especially, I need to steer clear…Thank you for this😀
I just discovered your channel in the wee hours of this morning, as I was unable to sleep. I am in denial of being retired since I had never fully developed a career from which to retire. So, at age 65 I'm still feeling the unfulfilled need and desire to work. At age 57 I left Ontario and moved to Quebec. As an introvert and home body, learning French and adapting to a new culture has been challenging and rewarding. I do love the bike lanes here in Montreal and being able to get where I need and want to go using my body's energy. It's invigorating! Your videos may help me to embrace the outcome of previous impulsive decisions I've made. I've always been a seeker. Thank you this channel.
Thank you for watching. Sometimes I think retirement is just changing your life from the way it was to the way it will be so I say just embrace the word.
Having moved so many times when I was little and my first husband followed the same trend I’ve lost so much of my life regarding personal items that when I get divorced, I did over a lot of furniture and I collected, and I am probably the nearest almost organized order that you ever met. My house is very organized and very, very clean and I surround myself with items that I truly like everyone that comes in my home says it’s warm and welcoming and that’s exactly how I wanted it to be❤ I understand why you are on the other side of the spectrum than me..I get that, that’s why I am the way I am❤
I am a retired educator in my 2nd year of retirement. I discovered how wonderful it is to have a thought and actually focus on it rather than flit from one thing to another-school does that to you. Also, just being able to sleep soundly on a regular basis is heaven!
Hello! I’m one of your new subscribers (thank you, Algorithm!) and I’m delighted and grateful that you’re making this wonderful content. I’m still working (for now…) but I am actively planning out what my own “small retired life” might look like when the time comes. I am also a homebody who craves more simplicity and a slower pace. Thank you for showing us one view into how that might look!
Welcome here and thank you for leaving a kind comment. I really appreciate that. I love being at home. It’s almost kind of ridiculous. I’m a bit of a dork and social situations… I definitely prefer being in my own little nest!
What a lovely channel thank you. So much of what you talk about I already do, but it's very affirming that so many others feel the same way. I love my simple peaceful life.
Hello from Greece!!I'm also 62 and still working in my small family business!!I'm far away from retirement, because i leave alone and work is a way to communicate with people. My 3 sons have their own life. Happy to find your channel.I need to find how to leave a simple but not boring life because i'm afraid of retirement.
Retired social worker here. I don't think your anxiety around getting rid of a couple of things whenever you make a new purchase is something that requires therapy! For one thing, it sounds like a fleeting feeling. Moreover it sounds very practical, efficient and effective. Carry on! 😊
You lead the life I really enjoy after leading such a busy working life. I have learned to say NO if I do not want to go or do something you do not wish to do ! I live in a Retirement Village and only join activities that I want to. JAA New Zealand
I just found your channel, and even at 23 with retirement decades away lol, I love watching your videos. I find myself gravitating towards a lot of retired/aging life content for some reason (even the workout routines I follow are for seniors--thank you, knee problems :) ). In my mind, I feel like it's primarily because I resonate very strongly with wanting to live a simple, slow life-something more present in later life than it is in your early 20s. Btw, I am from the Philippines! I was surprised to hear you say you worked in the Philippines for a time, and I'd love to see a video about your experiences working abroad someday.
You may also like Vera here on youtube & her channel, “Simple Happy Zen”. She is all about slow living, simplifying her home, & avoiding burnout as a highly sensitive person.
I also get rid of something if I bring something home. The local Methodist church is always happy to accept donations. I love the art behind you. It’s so colorful and beautiful!
yes live simply is the only way for best mental health. I think we are twins; I love being at home or go outside to walk...enjoy my coffee every morning and take life slowly
I really enjoyed your video. I'm 65 and I'm finding so much of what you're saying, is true. I have the same anxiety issue about clutter. 😊 Your place looks organized, bright, cozy ,cheery and elegant. This is the same look that I do now. I agree being frugal is important. But, you hit the nail on the head about keeping something in life that we enjoy. Like going to the art gallery or what ever a person's particular thing is. Thank you for making this video. 😊
One of the AMERICAN PEEPS. 😂 Enjoy your videos. I was a Probation Officer for 35 years and simultaneously a CJS Professor for 28 years. Retired from probation and will be retiring from teaching in December. Thanks for sharing. It is really helpful!
This is incredible advice. I'm in my 40s and living simply leading up to retirement is a goal and value of mine. This will set me up to live well now and in the next chapters of life. Thank you for this fantastic video
Thank you so much for your response. I love getting new ideas how to spend time in our new chapter. It truly is a huge mind shift in how to handle your days
I am 77, I worked part time unto my eary 70's - Covid ended that - but a couple of years ago I started having mobility issues and began doing some of the things you recommend because I was forced to. I was so unhappy, depressed and angry but over time, I adjusted and realized many of the benefits of living a relatively introverted, homebody life. I am going to have my hip replaced soon and hopefully, I will have the mobiity, function, energy and lack of pain that I used to have. I know that I am going to retain some of my new habits but I am looking forward to adding back some elements of my "old" life. I enjoyed this video because it highlights some of the better things about slowing down, decluttering and living a more simple life. I hope to find a way to have the best of both worlds.
@@ayr156 Simple living is a good fit for us introverts. I’m not concerned with driving a luxury car or keeping up with the Jones’s. My ‘garage kept’ 2016 Kia Soul suits me just fine. I’ve hauled furniture, lamps, misc home decor, all my clothes, and boxes of packed books, office supplies, dishes, etc. I’ve also hauled thrifted furniture, including a full sized recliner! It amazes me how much it holds! Instead of worrying about “keeping up with the Jones’s”, I spend my time finding inexpensive ways to make my surroundings cozy, comfortable, serene, and peaceful for all who enter. Many friends have told me that my little abode is “me” and that makes me happy. Here’s to simple happy living!
I retired at 63 in July 2021 after working for 42 years. I am now 66 years old. I am enjoying retirement. Just came across your channel now. Very interesting. I live in Cape Town South Africa.
Recently found and binge-watched your videos! Soooo refreshing and unlike other retirees messages. I’m close to your age, retired during the pandemic a few years earlier than I thought I might, single woman now later in life and live much like you do. We have much in common and exciting to hear others experiences & learn new things along the way. Thanks for sharing!
Good for you since this way of living makes you happy. Just hearing about it makes me sad and bored. I LOVE to decorate and if I were looking around my home and wardrobe at plainness my joy at enjoying the beauty of variety would make me miserable. I have a very small home and am not at all an extravagant person, however, I also do not like cheapness. I LOVE good quality beauty at a reasonable price and buy very little now that I am older and have what I need. I do update things when needed, such as home decor, my wardrobe, and new skin care and makeup products. I just try not to overdo as I don't want to waste money and have little space to store things. I feel looking around my home and having something cute/nice to wear, including a sometimes amazing makeup and skin care products enhances my life as I love pretty things -- just not tons of it.
Just stumbled upon your channel, looks pretty new and clearly you are resonating with people. As a retired corporate slave, introvert, I am living my Vancouver B.C. life in a way that has some parallels to yours. I think I will enjoy your posts. BTW the end phrase, some “housekeeping stuff” brought me back to corporate meetings galore which I do not miss at all. So glad that life is behind me, 7+ years now. Good luck with your channel.
I retired Feb 2023. I absolutely love my simple routines and simple life. I’m working on culling my wardrobe with quality pieces I actually wear. I am introverted also and love my hobbies. I am happier than i have ever been. I’m 67. I live in Arizona US.
Good morning. I found your channel yesterday and it’s been very inspiring. I’m 53 and just started this cooking channel after losing a really successful biz to the pandemic overnight. I love how you share your story and it held us who are in our 50s. Your dad reminded me of my mum too 😅 both love keeping things
I’m definitely an introvert and socializing isn’t my thing. I love being alone. I have 4 flea market booths all in different areas of town and that’s about all the socializing I can do. Unfortunately, I have become an ‘organized hoarder’…I know this is where all of my issues lie. I’m on a purchasing freeze and I’m getting things in my second hand booths and the sales are looking better because of it. 😊 I am so happy to have found you. Thank you for sharing your wisdom. 🙏🏾😊
Great video ! This is pretty much how I live now that I am retired and widowed, except that I have no plants but 3 cats. Here is a tip for winter walking: you can do it indoors in your home with a walking video from a DVD or UA-cam. No gym necessary. Montreal winters are pretty rough so this is my alternative to outdoor walks.
I'm a new subscriber and I enjoyed your video. I retired 3 years ago and I love it. I agree with you, I love simple routines. I have my coffee and watch the news or old movies. Sometimes I feel I rather stay home than go out. I'm the opposite of who I was 3 years ago. I have a great circle of friends and we try to get together at least once a month. We talk on the phone weekly. I love living a calm and uncomplicated life. 😊
Great content Raina. Thanks for the motivation to finally make space in the bottom drawer in the bathroom by clearing out years worth of nail polish. I also made a conscious decision a few years ago to wear minimal makeup with most weekends makeup free. Such a money saver.
I’m a new subscriber and I really like this video. As a retired interior designer, I also have a thing for design and shelter books. One source I have found to inexpensively feed my collection are library sales. These are held by local libraries in the US, as fund raisers. Some of the books are retired library books and some are donated by patrons. Most books are $2 to $6 each. These prices also make it easier to pass them on later.
I love that I found your channel! I totally relate to wanting a simple life. My husband has some hoarder tendencies in our garage like your dad and it gives me anxiety! Less is more!
Just found your channel. I am retired (age 73), and it has been my goal since retiring early, is to live "under my means". I have always enjoyed the simple life. I am decluttering - it does feel so freeing not to have stuff - less cleaning and less stress. I am enjoying the quiet life and simple life. Thank you for your ideas. Will look forward to your next video.
SMR, I'm really happy to find someone speaking about finances from a Canadian perspective. There are some really great US channels, but it's nice to hear someone talk about RRSPs and TFSAs. Especially as CPP and OAS don't pay out as much as US social security does. Congratulations on the new subscribers! Let us know when you receive your UA-cam award!
Yes, totally hey… it’s hard to find Canadian UA-camr in this age bracket who talk about this kind of stuff. I don’t get any CPP or OAS as yet… not quite there with the age yet. I completely don’t understand the U.S. versions of these types of programs and or ifthey’re similar.
This video, your tips, and your calm voice have made me feel normal!! Apart from the fact that at 66 I’m still working part time, the way I approach my life is so very similar to what you have outlined here. Staying social is my challenge - I know it’s so important but I do enjoy the peace of not having to accommodate people’s moods, issues and constant talking about themselves! (That last one seems to be an epidemic these days!) Just to personalize things I’d love it if you’d share your name with us. Happily a new subscriber, from Australia 🇦🇺 😊
So glad that your video popped up in my feed today. Looks like you have just started your channel and your subscriber count is already amazing - Congratulations to you for that! I’m 62 yrs and we’re almost ready to sell our business - hubby wants to retire and as I try and adjust to that thought, I’m enjoying learning from others who have already made the changes.
Thank you for watching. Yes I just started this channel like five weeks ago and I’m a bit daunted by how it has gone. Now I feel a bit pressured to improve my filming skills lol. Delving into retirement is definitely hard but also exciting because think about all the new things that you’ll get to do!
Hello there think you just described all my habits just one thing I could add, I cannot walk anymore at least for a longer time, but I do see people walk in the shopping mall off peak hour and when they pass you the fifth or 10 time you realize that they are exercising and that’s for free.
I rarely go to the mall these days, but I have noticed walkers in the mall as well. Calgary gets so very, very cold in the winter and this is an option for older folks to go and get some exercise without having to pay for a gym pass.
I love your channel. I'm a new subscriber. I'm 49 years old and always enjoy hearing others women's journeys into this phase of our life, retirement, investing etc. I love how you shared the simple things you enjoy. I am very similar and it's a little hard for my kids to understand...they are in high school and middle school....but I feel you on loving and enjoying introverted activities. I love forward to more videos. 🧡
1st time viewer & fellow introvert & lover of books & other info sources. HA ! My Mom wasn't a Librarian, but she did get her Masters Degree in Library Science ( & did make use of it for work). So … close !! I enjoyed this video. Thank you ! Liz
Yes! I love your video and agree with everything you said. It’s also validating to see so many like-minded people in your comments because sometimes it feels like everyone around me is on a challenge to spend and consume as much as possible. Simplicity is joy.
Exercise is imperative including a VIGOROUS walk every single day. I have dumb bells at home and use them while ACTIVE stretching. That said, as a senior joining a gym has many benefits and the cost is minimal. This gets you OUT of your house. Create a routine of getting up and being the first at your gym--use the treadmill and use the weights. It is NOT a fashion show so pick two outfits that handle sweat.
I love your attitude, and I share so many of the same feelings, but it is nice to just hear and see you calmly enumerate them in this video. Helps me continue moving in the direction of ever-greater simplicity.
I’m not even retired yet, but I am happy I came upon your channel! Clutter really makes me anxious, and yet, I also succumb to “retail therapy”, at places such as Homesense! In the moment, I tell myself I need stuff, but I’m learning to be much more mindful in future purchases! I read once that when we shop, if it’s not a “hell yes” it’s a NO!!
hi I'm from the Philippines and retired at the age of 70 and living alone in my hometown in a house I owed but never lived in before due to work in other city. My husband prefer to live with my 2 children who now have jobs of their own. So this situation have given me chance to live on what I what for myself from decorating my house to meals I want to cook. I am now at a dilemma on how to dispose my dresses, bags and stuff that accumulated over the years. so happy I got into your channel and love the tips you talk about.
@ amen to that thank you for replying. Have a blessed night.
Thank you for this Pointer. It was easy to find your handler, She seems very proficient and flexible. I booked a call session with her.
Wow, good for you! And I am jealous because I bet it’s much warmer where you are as opposed to Calgary in the winter!
I'm a 60 year-old African American woman from L.A. Hoping to retire next year so that I can live the simple life. Whilst my daughter and other family members are well traveled, I prefer home. I also love to read and watch my "Hallmark" holiday movies. I am so glad that I came across this channel.
Thank you for the kind comment and thank you for watching my video!🙏
I tell everyone I live in a hallmark channel bubble. I love it 😻
My husband is 90 and I’m 87, we are in good health and have been retired for 24 years, living in a senior apt. Where they have a lot of games and activities. No dinners so I still have to cook. Boo! My favorite thing is sitting here in the quiet. He goes to the next town to play chess twice a week, yea! Simple is good!
That sounds absolutely lovely. Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment!
Fellow introvert here. At 56, I’m retired, rarely wear makeup, enjoy walking and gardening, and just generally enjoy my “me” time. Thanks for your videos. Greetings from Winnipeg.
Oh hi, 😊
Hello
All the best to you in this new chapter of life dear one.
I’m the same way. I retired at 56 and moved across Texas at 60 and downsized. I love hanging out in my little condo. I’m happy just being home.
I've been thinking about this. I feel that I will feel the same as you. I know I WANT to feel that way. Thank you so much for the encouragement.
Can you share in another episode your skin care? It was the first thing I noticed, your flawless skin. New subbie here thank you!
You are UA-cam material... Try it, I have a small channel I post what I like n I rarely go with the flow...I am over 60😊🙏
I don't have a "routine" but I do need to take a few minutes to think about the day and list a couple of goals for the day --if if it is "deal with tomatoes" or such. I don't want to be totally aimless. I keep a habit tracker to check off things like basic hygiene because l let things slip otherwise.
Similar. Have trouble planning. Have many projects.
OMG you are describing me! I get so stressed and can’t think clearly around clutter! I love plants, flowers and books. 😍
😂😂🤣I love it … “I accidentally retired”! That is so awesome. Good for you.
Glad to hear your recovery is going well!
When it comes to exercise, I go to three exercise classes a week
because I know I will NOT exercise at home and for the purposes of socialization.
A budget helps me do that
Thank you for this. You have given me much to think about. 🤗
I think I will subscribe to your channel.
Thank you. 🙏🏼
Thank you and thank you for your support 🙏
Hi welcome. I am actually Czech - born in the old Czechoslovakia and my parents escaped in 1969.
I am - retirement is amazing!
I love your simple life tips. I already live by almost all of them. I feel I have a clearer mind living simply. I'm also more conscious of my money spending.
Thanks for all your life tips. Keep up the great work on your videos.
Retiring in May 2025 at 62. I’m binge watching your channel. Love it
Welcome aboard!
You will absolutely love retirement❤
Hello 👋 I’m from Calgary as well. Just found your channel and I’m enjoying your videos. It’s nice to see someone from Canada on here. I enjoy being at home crafting and cleaning my house. My husband is a trucker so I’m alone a lot but I’m happy. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos. 😊
Everything you are saying is making so much sense to me.
Thank you so much for watching and for leaving a comment. Happy that this resonates.
AMEN no seasonal decor. One of my best memories was putting everything my husband and I owned in 1 Honda civic and left for 9mn., most wonder time ever. I thought this was crazy, but it was so freeing everything we owned had to fit in this small car.
When my mom passed my 2 sisters had to travel to her house for 1 year every single week-end, with 1-3 construction dumpsters went and tossed and went through everything
I know when my husbands mom passed away out of state we had to travel on wk-ends nightmare and go through everything it was horrible-I would not wish this on anyone
so we have said no we will not do this to our child as we age we are paring down each year
we keep what we use and give away what we don't
Sounds like you are very happy! So nice to see. Thank you for watching my video!🙏
Keep it up
Thank you 🙏
I’m a homebody introvert too and hate clutter makes me anxious and claustrophobic.
Yes, several good items shared. Look forward to seeing more of your videos.
At 54 I decided to work remotely when I was given the option. No more suits, no more scheduled manicures, and I went natural with my hair. I’m living a simpler life and saving so much money ☺️I can fully retire sooner. Great videos I love your videos.
You are so right keep things simple it makes life easier, your perspective on this is perfect, especially the clutter
Thank you for watching and welcome here. Yes I just hate clutter. I definitely have a bad relationship with clutter.
Doing same here. Thanks.
Slow living is BEAUTIFUL to me! I'm 67 and still teach full time, so moving at a steady pace, rather than rushing sound like HEAVEN to me!
New subscription, so happy to have found you!
63 year old retiree here. Love your channel. I’m an introvert and I really resonate with your views.
Here in Florida people go mall -walking in the heat or in the rain! Leave the wallet at home 😊
Welcome here and thank you for watching. Yes I worked in both Manila and in Mindanao.
One in, one out is the best practice ever!
yes live simply is the only way for best mental health.
So happy I came across your channel! 53 and slowly preparing for retirement in 10 years God willing. Introverted simple living is me😊
@@ayr156 Simple living is a good fit for us introverts.
Thank you so much for watching. I so appreciate it. 🙏
I'm with you! I love to work on my home and save and plan my next home purchase. I still want to work on looking my best.
“Corporate slave” 😂😂😂 oh my goodness, yes. I don’t miss it.
I retired Feb 2023. I absolutely love my simple routines and simple life. I’m working on culling my wardrobe with quality pieces I actually wear. I am introverted also and love my hobbies. I am happier than i have ever been. I’m 67. I live in Arizona US.
Thanks Raina for the tips, agree at this point in our lives, simple, relaxed living is key.
Very well said - when you are home all the time it really does help to have a soothing environment.
Awww thank you for watching 😃
Hi you just popped up on my feed so timely planning my retirement in 6 mths but a bit anxious about it! This feels so supportive. Thank you
I’m definitely an introvert and socializing isn’t my thing.
I am so happy to have found you.
Such a money saver.
lol, thanks Julie 😃🤣 I had old nail polish as well, you could not even stir it.
Wow, what a great way to get books. I notice some of the preowned books I have purchased from Amazon were at one time library books.
(That last one seems to be an epidemic these days!)
Just to personalize things I’d love it if you’d share your name with us.
I decluttered clothing and lots of makeup ( that I never wore)yesterday, and feel so much better. Hoping to spend less and enjoy what I have.
Yes... Love the Practical tips. Definitely agree with dress for your life for sure!
If you live in US and have Medicare. Many offer free gym memberships. Mine offers our local YMCA and it’s a great facility!
I love your attitude, and I share so many of the same feelings, but it is nice to just hear and see you calmly enumerate them in this video. Helps me continue moving in the direction of ever-greater simplicity.
Thank you 😀
I’m not even retired yet, but I am happy I came upon your channel!
Thank you. I love the Philippines, I worked there for a bit in Manila and in Mindanao.
