When Throwing Things at Bands Goes Wrong

- There's been a disturbing recent trend of fans throwing things at musicians onstage, hoping for a morsel of internet fame. Unfortunately, as this video shows, it's an issue artists have been dealing with for a while.

I don't understand paying money to see a band and then trying to hurt them.
Main character syndrome
I really don’t either. To be fair a lot of bands that receive that are openers so people may not have necessarily paid to see them, but it’s absolutely childish and pathetic either way to do that
Some of these people don't pay for it
Some people are just born jackass's
The metallica clip is from the show where they made fun of Kurt Cobain's suicide.
The way the translator for Axel Rose hesitated every time she had to translate
Aside from getting on the stage itself this is the dumbest thing you could do to a band during a performance.
Ever hear of stage diving?
Never forget during Woodstock 94 when Primus was playing "My Name Is Mud" and they got mud thrown at them (as it was heavily raining throughout the day and the concert took place in a grass field). Les Claypool responded by stopping the song and saying "You know, when you throw things onstage, it's a size of small and insignificant genitalia."
The crowd immediately stopped and hurled nothing for the rest of their set. Legendary.
Green day had mud thrown all over them during that show as well lol
Les making fun of clitoris’. Who knew.
@@RazKlartt2512 it should have been 💩 in Green Day's case 🤣
Props to Fred Durst, who didn't even flinch, even though it was a headshot 😂
Axel got a interpretor to cuss them out in Spanish 😂😂
and the funny thing is that she translated it with a lot of censor XD
Yeah not a great translation, but they got the message😂
@@diegueinsc Aww, I was wondering about that but I guess cuss words don't translate well over different languages.
@@SynthLizard8 that is not the reason, the lady was way too polite 😅
When Axl yells "stop" and calls for the interpreter, you know it's not going to be good.
I love how the interpreter couldn’t help but laugh 😂
Angus - “Got your nose.”
Thankfully the argentinian translator softened Axl words lol
you have everything but pearl jams "SHOE THE SHOELESS!" clip 😭
That's what I was going to say : SHOE THE SHOELESS
The Justin beiber one fucking killed me😂
My favourite reaction to someone having a beer thrown at them on stage was Abbath. He simply said to the guy who threw that beer, I'll buy you another.
Hetfield always did a great job of saying what he needed to say, but then immediately getting the crowd back on his side and focused on the important thing; the music.
Theyre were mocking paul staley in that moment,,
He mocked Layne Staley for having a drug problem while he was a raging alcoholic during that performance
@@Mindmartyryou think that justifies throwing something at somebody? Quit being a tool
@@Mindmartyr didnt he make fun of him due to AIC cancelling to come on tour with metallica the day before it started due to laynes drug issues, not justifying it just saying it makes sense why they would take the piss out of him to vent inna way
Metallica was up there drunk as hell giving Layne Staley crap for drugs so I'm not sure what they expected tbh
Angus Young is like, come here you little blighter and I'll pinch your nose.
Bruce Dickinson getting pissed off at security for beating up a fan and Rob Halford kicking someone's cellphone out of their hands were pretty epic moments.
What Rob Halford did was criminal. They lost me as a fan.
Oh God, for one to not be a fan of Justin Bieber, like at all, I'm still disappointed that someone would do that to him.
Imagine being a young child, like at least a teen and creating music that makes teen girls wee in joy, and having to deal with your haters, I can see why he had become a douce later on.
Still not a fan of him, but I would never do anything to hurt him, maybe a complaint about his plain music, but never, ever hurt him. I'm not only mad at the concert goers but also the managers for having a teenager, a childish teenager who seems to have a lot of joy, and put him on the top of the world. For shame.
Now can we have more metal videos loudwire?
Such a sweetheart of an interpreter, no swearing.
Before getting things thrown at them in 1:04, Hetfield was mocking Layne Staley for his struggles with addiction. Look up the full video.
You're absolutely right. I've only ever seen the full video once on UA-cam.
Awesome, being a junky is stupid.
@@fraterjrhe wasnt a “junky” he was a depressed addict crying for help. Being addicted to drugs is a sickness. It doesnt make you any less human. Oh and Metallica sucks balls.
@@fraterjr Addiction is partially genetic and partially environmental. It's not always a choice. And overcoming addiction is ridiculously difficult, which alcoholics like Metallica should understand.
@@thoughtfuldevil6069yeah but as a rocker who takes drugs and drinks alot he kinda knows about the downsides… so he is the kind of person who can talk about people who go to far… duh!!!
This video is missing Chester Bennington. He didn't get hit but something threw a jug close to him and he did a stare down while singing directly at that person. That was one month before he died and people like Loudwire made fun of him for it.
Edit: Mind you, they were the headliners, and the fan probably did not like the song "Heavy." They could have just left the festival early.
I've never understood throwing crap at people if you are paying them to play music for you, the band members are your employees for that night they are your performing puppets.
They're throwing stuff at the bands they don't like bro.
On that Metallica video it just shows James being hit with the bottle. Without context that looks bad. However before that bottle was thrown James was mocking Lane Staley and that is what got the crowd mad. I've only ever seen the whole video once.
Nothing warrants throwing objects at the stage. If you're so offended then leave.
@@lionheartroar3104 I didn't say the object throwing was warranted. I was simply pointing out why some of the crowd got mad.
Being a stupid junky definitely warrants being mocked.
@@necropink9200they paid to see metallica… so no throwing things at metallica… pretty simple…
@@mooncat7009 I'm not saying that throwing objects at Metallica is right. The Layne Staley mocking doesn't condone such behaviour but it does explain it.
Saw Metallica in 1998 at the Gorge at George. Some ass threw a bottle at Newstead right in the middle of One. They stopped, James pointed the guy out, people took turns punching the guy as he was herded to the barrier and handed over to security. To their credit, they picked up right where they left off and continued the song.
I seen nofx in London (Canada). People kept throwing crap and Mike said next thing to hit us we are taking song off the set list. They took four song of the set list and said to the crowd “I fucking hate Toronto” walked off stage. I was so mad.
What’s NOFX?
@@viniciusgmachado1204hahahahaha good one
It really just baffles me how people react when they have a few too many. Throwing bottles at bands, getting in fights in the audience, fighting with security, i’m so glad I’m not one of those people. If a band. Wants to get my attention for any reason I should hope that it’s for something positive that I did. Not trying to hurt them.
Angus gives the guitar to the dark and it just takes it. Think about that poor guys nose that angus took. Angus is king
In 2003 at Papa Roach in Joplin Missouri the crowd split down the middle and went to war with eachother throwing shit. It was fucking crazy people were throwing bottles, shoes, cans, cigarette butts and those empty Co2 cannisters from people doing whipits. But no one ever threw anything on stage.
6:03 oh my god, I think that’s my local venue, the cotillion. I can tell, because the area around the stage looks like the loony tunes logo.
The cotillion ballroom in Wichita KS?
@@ryanlaymon2329 that’s it
Fantomas played a festival in Australia and the band played dressed in cricket uniforms. Mike Patton encouraged us to throw bottles while he hit them with a plastic cricket bat.
I was at Ozzy front row , threw a joint onstage and Robert Trujio picked it up 🤘👊
I cant see how any professional bouncer would help any of those people up to the stage instead of out the door, given the end result could only be either an injury or a liability suit from either the band or the concert goer once they came within arms reach of the band.
Skid Row in Billings Montana was the best.
6:14 BEST ANSWER EVER. PERIOD
You didn't show the only one that matters. Wish I could remember who it was but there was a hardcore singer who caught a beer can drank from it and threw it back.
Probably some Dutch guy 🙃
Or Randy from Lamb Of God catching a bottle, mid conversation with the crowd and throwing it right back at the person who threw it
One of the more notorious examples involved Sebastian Bach from Skid Row when he jumped in the crowd and fought whoever there stuff at him.
But hit the wrong person
Yeah he got charged for assault on that, just leave it alone unless it knocks you out or something. Laugh it off, don't be a baby and say bye, we're done!! Pussies.
if you read his autobiography. He goes into depth what really happened during and after
Angus Young pinching the guys nose was just too funny.
Idk why but the Chad Gray one i found hilarious
Candlebox. Between Suicidal Tendencies and Metallica, I couldn't help but feel a little bit bad for the singer taking a boot in the face thrown at him buy someone in the audience. 😅

It was early 1990. I bought a Slayer bootleg from an ad someone ran in Metal Edge magazine. I think it was the Seasons in the Abyss tour. Anyway, the show was at the Felt Forum in NYC. It was free seat cushion night. During the show, the fans went nuts. They were Slayer fans! What do you expect? They started throwing the seat cushions everywhere. Araya kept saying "You guys are fuckin' unruly! The next time you throw seat cushions at us, let us know so we have time to duck!" Bad ass!!!!!! Wish i woulda been there!!!
Hol up, did I just saw Eminem on Loudwire??
If I was a musician on stage I would just start dying a laughing if people started throwing stuff at me
8:53 Justin was ok...He was wearing a helmet.
Who chucks a bottle at a kid is my question
I'll never forget Summer Sanitarium, Hawthorne Race Track in Chicago. Limp Bizkit played for 25 minutes before bowing out from all the plastic bottles, cups, shoes, ice, dirt, etc. being thrown at them. Fred Durst's epic meltdown after was worth the price of admission alone.
lol, He got Boo'd in Seattle too. Unfortunately we had to stand trough his whole set.
There's nothing in the world that would justify throwing things at people on stage. Ok maybe only at justing bieber, but at eveyone else that's not cool.
I don’t agree with throwing stuff at the bands but I just found the Limp Bizkit one funny cause it was a head shot on Fred and it was like he didn’t even notice something had hit him😂
I actually think his reaction is the best way to handle it, they want to derail a show, they want to cause a scene.
He didn’t give them the satisfaction of even a notice.
ABSOLUTELY KILLER VIDEO!!!💀🤘💀🤘💀🤘💀🤘💀
There's video of Faith No More playing in Mexico, maybe Portugal where they encouraged the crowd to throw stuff. Love FNM!
Fantomas do it as well. Mike Patton had a plastic cricket bat at a show in Australia
I'm genuinely surprised at Fred's lack of reaction to the situation.
Some people are broken … evil .. vile .. don’t want to be liked .. against the world … they are horrible but I hope they find love
There's a clip of Benjamin Orr getting hit by something as they're playing Bye Bye, Love and he mouths something to the perpetrator in between verses. And Axl's translator missed a couple of his choice palabras.
The Fred Durst one is pretty funny lmao
Funny stuff. Great footage
There is a video of Metallica on the black album tour, I think it was Rhode Island 1992, and Jason gets pegged square in the face by a water bottle.
A Cliff fan?
there is a place in greece, pyrgos, ilia , in a farm , theres an anual festival there extremely good. When people likes a band throw empty beer cans..The more cans the more they love you
In the immortal words of Iggy Pop at the last Stooges gig: "i wanna thank the person who threw that bottle at my head. Ya nearly killed me but ya missed again, you'll have to keep trying next week."
Kudos to the editor on the Fred Durst video.
😂
I say it's the Most Disrespectful thing any idiot could do to Any band!!!🤨
8:26: Not my preferred subgenre, but I'd like to hear some more Luke Combs death metal. "This song is called HAMMER SMASHED PICKUP TRUUUUUUCK!"
Why does Hetflied squat to talk into the mic like he's taking a poop?
You shit standing up?
I always love seeing Chad from Nickelback getting beaned with a rock! LOLOLOLOL
Hetfield got shit thrown at him because he was being his drunken asshole self about Lane Staley.
Angus Young pinching the guy's nose like "You naughty little boy you!" It's just funnier when you think that a man wearing schoolboy uniform doing that to another man
Reading festival 2000 someone unwisely booked Daphne and Celeste on the main stage the same day as Rage against the machine and slipknot. They lasted less than 2 songs having everything being chucked at them before security mercifully forced them off. Fair dues to the girls they stuck at it and weren't going to leave.
Frankly, idk how Alice In Chains stayed friends with Metallica after they mocked Layne for his drug addiction. Kind of ironic coming from Alcoholica.
The Darkness fans: _"shame!!"_
Staind fans: "we will happily beat the shit out of someone if Aaron tells us to."
My favourite part of the video was when they repeated the same clips 10 times in a row
I still think the best was when someone threw a bra on stage at a Dream Theater show (was unaware they had any women in their audience) and James LaBrie just picks it up, keeps singing, and hangs it off Mike Portnoy's drum kit.
What if it wasn't a woman?🤐
Missed the one where angus young did it at the end of bad boy
even band or artist that I hate I dont want this to happen
We are broadeing the definition of "rock" in this compilation.
Yooo, I've never seen Angus in any shit but he held his own. I loved it. And I wish the Hulk could throw a bus at Nickelback.
should have mentioned Daniel from silverchair. He got hit with a bottle .split his head open . and kept on playing.
The Justin Bieber hit was great 🤣
That Angus Young was great!
To play devil's advocate for the Metallica scene. They were making fun of a lot of other bands ahead of time. Even Nirvana, at Woodstock '94, the same year of Kurt's death. Should the guy have thrown that shoe and possibly injured James Hetfield? No! Though I'm not surprised that it eventually happened. The band member's egos after the Black album and later Load and Reload were on the moon. And they didn't get reality checks until Jason left the band.
It’s a dumb thing to do. However, Fred Durst no sold that 2L bottle?
If I would be James I would react the same it can really mess up a song if something hits your guitar
This video is missing josh homme from qotsa at Norwegian wood
The Justin Bieber one never gets old lol🤣
community service…
...and it's Hetfield with the save
some idiot is sueing because he got on stage and tackled a comic and had a knife and boohoo the guards hurt him. someone threw a lighter at geddy lee, left blood runiing down his face and him reeling. but on the other hand a fan tossed a n alexander the great helmet on stage at an iron maiden concert and bruce was running round with a big grin, trying it on before he tossed it back.
The brutally instant way to get attention🤣
Gotta love how Fred didn’t give a single shit
Don't throw things but there is a category called douche rock. Manson, stained, mudvayne, and limp Bizkit all fall into that group. Their fans can't be too great either.
I've only seen a couple guys from bands actually jump down off the stage and whoop some ass. Axl was one of them
Im fairness when I was a teenager a throw a bottle at the LostProphets singer then they back up Metallica (or Maiden, can't remember)... I don't regret that one
Why?
Beiber got rekt 🤣
😂 👍
i know right!!😂😂😂😂😂😂🍾🍾🍾🍾
Usually Liverpool, so they say, throws the shit at Morrissey - from alleged sausage to beer cans....no kitchen sinks, as of yet, though...
Morrisey had it coming
Fred Durst ate that 😅
Some people are just too stupid to have a good time
Is there really no footage at all of the bottling of Justin Timberlake at the Sars Fest in Toronto? Not even filmed on a potato?
I felt bad for teen justin bieber😢
When i was younger i thought it was funny but now i realize how stupid i was for thinking that it’s ok.
Question: Does throwing things at bands ever go right?
Justin Bieber took the moment in a more manly manner than Aaron Lewis.
😂😂😂😂😂no
Don't throw shit at Rihanna. She is already singing some.
Most of them handled it pretty well tbh
Musicians
Has Nickleback and Bieber
Nickelback getting rocks thrown at them never gets old.
you could even get your butt beat up if the fans are fanatics
They forgot the slipknot one
