Without Jane's Addiction, there'd be no alternative. NIN, too. I was expecting to see some Depeche Mode, Joy Division/New Order, AIC, Soundgarden. Many albums mentioned here were riding on the proverbial coattails. The albums by REM, Pixies, Nirvana were good callouts. I love White Stripes, believe me. But they weren't really alternative.
Sorry but linkin Park wasn’t important like others. They didn’t really define anything. Janes should be on this list though I like smoothed out slappy hours & kerplunk better but an important album is definitely dookie.
This was a good list but I would have added; Loveless- My Bloody Valentine Unknown Pleasures- Joy Division Marquee Moon- Television Remain in Light- Talking Heads
Here's some I'd add to this list Heaven or Las Vegas - The Cocteau Twins Loveless - My Bloody Valentine Agaetis Byrjun - Sigur Ros Violator - Depeche Mode Metal Box - Public Image Ltd. The Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails
"Pretty Hate Machine" by NIN and "Suffer" by Bad Religion were two albums that quite literally changed my little pubescent life. There was an amazing radio station in Salt Lake City called KJQ that played what they called 'modern rock', and I ate it up. They were ahead of their time, for sure.
HM: - Blur - 13, Parklife - Joy Division - Closer, Unknown Pleasures - Sex Pistols - The Clash - The Clash, London Calling - Gorillaz - Demon Days - XTC - Black Sea, Skylarking - The Jam - All Mod Cons, Sound Affects - Depeche Mode - Violator - Arctic Monkeys - WPSIATWIN - Primal Scream - Scremadelica - The Police - Reggatta De Blanc - Talking Heads - Remain In Light, Fear Of Music - The Jesus & Mary Chain - Psychocandy
Thank you for the udpate, WatchMojo..!! When Nirvana's Nevermind came out in 1991, people actually lined up to buy the album. In my city's downtown record store alone, they sold over 1 million CDs. OK Computer was the soundtrack to my senior year of high school!
OMG! Thank you for reminding me about Arcade Fire!!!
An awesome list, was a bit disappointed that there wasn't any Green Day
I think they're classed more as rock/punk than alternative.
@@shell150675 Yeah, they do have a lot of more punk-rock type songs but then I see a lot of American Idiot (album) as having a lot of more alt-leaning songs (Holiday, Wake Me Up When September Ends, stuff like that)
This video deserves applause.....many congrats!!!!!
“Is this it” period!
For sure

EDIT: As James points out in a reply, Rebecca specifically addresses VU in the intro which I'd fast-forwarded through due to time constraint. Rebecca, WatchMojo: my apologies.
did you not watch the intro they dont count
@@jimbo9208 Ha! That's what I get for fast-forwarding through the intro to the list itself. Thanks for pointing this out!
You Mean:
(10) The Strokes Is This It?
(9) Sunny Day Real Estate - Diary
(8) Husker Du - Zen Arcade
(7) Velvet Underground - Loaded
(6) The Cure - Disintegration
(5) Big Star - #1 Record
(4) XTC - English Settlement
(3) Pixies - Doolittle
(2) Violent Femmes - Self Titled
(1) Miles Davis - Kind of Blue
Without Jane's Addiction, there'd be no alternative. NIN, too. I was expecting to see some Depeche Mode, Joy Division/New Order, AIC, Soundgarden. Many albums mentioned here were riding on the proverbial coattails. The albums by REM, Pixies, Nirvana were good callouts. I love White Stripes, believe me. But they weren't really alternative.
Sorry but linkin Park wasn’t important like others. They didn’t really define anything. Janes should be on this list though
I like smoothed out slappy hours & kerplunk better but an important album is definitely dookie.
This was a good list but I would have added;
Loveless- My Bloody Valentine
Unknown Pleasures- Joy Division
Marquee Moon- Television
Remain in Light- Talking Heads
For me (like Rebeeca) it's: "(What's the Story) Morning Glory?".
not an alternative rock album
Here's some I'd add to this list
Heaven or Las Vegas - The Cocteau Twins
Loveless - My Bloody Valentine
Agaetis Byrjun - Sigur Ros
Violator - Depeche Mode
Metal Box - Public Image Ltd.
The Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails
No Joy Division or New Order? NO Depeche Mode? Not even honorable mention? WTF!
Agreed WTF!!!
Oasis - What's the story morning glory
Silverchair - Neon Ballroom
Babylon Zoo - Spaceman
Nirvana - Nevermind
That Oasis Album is Britpop not Alt Rock
And Nevermind is on here...
@@LandonAPerson Brit Pop is an alternative genre. For the last, fellas. Alternative is an umbrella term for many genres including brit-pop.
HM:
- Blur - 13, Parklife
- Joy Division - Closer, Unknown Pleasures
- Sex Pistols
- The Clash - The Clash, London Calling
- Gorillaz - Demon Days
- XTC - Black Sea, Skylarking
- The Jam - All Mod Cons, Sound Affects
- Depeche Mode - Violator
- Arctic Monkeys - WPSIATWIN
- Primal Scream - Scremadelica
- The Police - Reggatta De Blanc
- Talking Heads - Remain In Light, Fear Of Music
- The Jesus & Mary Chain - Psychocandy
I always thought Pinkerton
was a security company.
They used to harass Jesse James a lot.
Thank you for the udpate, WatchMojo..!! When Nirvana's Nevermind came out in 1991, people actually lined up to buy the album. In my city's downtown record store alone, they sold over 1 million CDs. I used to study while listening to the album on my standard speaker equipped CD player, but later learned there was a hidden track on the 13th position that sounded like a demonic crap. I listened to that multiple times not even knowing that track was hidden on the CD. @.@
Really hoping to see some love for The Replacements
Me too. Their albums are great. My favorite is Let It Be with Pleased To Meet Me a close second. My favorite song of theirs is I Will Dare.
@@RadioLaPrincess Hard for me to pick a favorite song. Recently I’ve been listening to “Can’t Hardly Wait” from Pleased to Meet Me
@@briantwiss9078 Great song! Or how about Alex Chilton? Another great song. Just a great band, I was lucky to have heard their final show since they played in Chicago and it was broadcast live.
