  • In this video, we're going to explore the surprising link between collagen and pain. Collagen is a protein that is responsible for maintaining the structural integrity of our skin, hair, and muscles. However, due to its delicate nature, collagen can also become damaged and cause pain in different parts of the body.
We'll discuss the effects of collagen on pain in different chronic conditions, like ankylosing spondylitis and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. We'll also discuss the indications of collagen supplements and discuss the best ways to consume collagen to relieve pain naturally. So make sure to watch this video to learn about the surprising link between collagen and pain!

I take a scoop of collgen powder in my coffee-- both my Dr and an acupuncturist both had told me I needed more protein in my diet, and soy was not an option for me. Meat in small amounts is ok, but "adequate" amounts are hard to digest. About 2-3 months after starting the collagen, I noticed that for the first time ever, that I had fingernails that didn't rip or peel. Endurance is somewhat improved, less painful to exercise. Hard to tell re: hair or skin -- I have hypothyroidism, and fibromyalgia. I stopped taking it for a few weeks, and my nails started peeling again, and it was more difficult an painful to exercise; starting it again relieved these symptoms.

I had a surgery that put me into instant menopause and within 1 year I lost 15 pounds of collagen and have so much more pain everywhere. I am living proof of how important collagen is. I wish I could do something to get some of the Collagen back.

I have known this for a long time, Dr. Furlan! However, it has been a wonderful pleasure to hear it again in English from you because your English is excellent. I can understand it about 95-98%. So, I'm going to improve my listening skills in English while watching this excellent video.I subscribed to your channel, thanks a lot, regards of a Canarian person (from Canary Islands,Spain) even I'm in a Spanish city in North Africa.Have a good one🤗❤️ Ahh,I took collagen supplements but I let it because I thought that better taking it only during 1-2 months for not possible problems if maybe getting an excess of this supplement in my body, my thought was that better getting it from foods in a natural way even I took it in supplements due to a knee pain which improved, fortunately, thanks again, have a good one🤗❤️

I started taking a bovine collagen supplement in powder form a couple of months ago to see if it would help with knee issues. Within 10 days I was impressed with the results as my knees felt much easier. However after a month I started getting a lot of nasal congestion & a feeling of fullness in my ears. A bit of research told me that there’s a lot of histamine in collagen & although I’ve never been diagnosed with histamine intolerance or MCAS, I have had hay fever for 50+ years. I stopped the collagen & the issue went away. I found this really frustrating as my knees felt so much better. I may try marine collagen though I think that’s more for skin than joints. I have a good diet, eating many of the things you mentioned. I’m mid 60’s so maybe it’s just an age problem!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge on this topic. Very helpful video with sound nutritional advice and biology/diseases recap. I had never considered collagen and how this protein may be impacting my rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. But I will definitely be steering away from refined sugars/carbs now as a rationale for building healthy collagen. Peanut butter (plus other nuts) is a wonderful option to boost dietary intake going forward. Thank you.

I take “Move Free Ultra” with Cartilage, collagen, boron glycinate and Hyaluronic acid for my arthritis/joints. After a while I wasn’t sure if it was affective and it is kind of pricey, so I stopped taking it for a while, and my knee flared up bad, needing an injection. I hadn’t had an injection in years. I went back on the supplement, and again I have not had injections.

I have been on collagen for a long time and I can see results on the skin but not on the joints or stiffness. I think collagen can't just be supplemental, it has to go deeper, and to assume that collagen will address stiffness and pain is not addressing the issue at it's root. I think it depends on what is causing the pain and stiffness. Dr.Andrea thanks for your content!
