I used the rev for 2 full years as an EDC, always found it reliable & useful. The pliers on the rev, with the overbite on the Wirecutters seemed to me to be better than the cutters on the sidekick or the wingman.
I have the Rev and I am very happy with it, I am a service technician and I carry it with me so that I do not have to go to my van to get tools for every small job.
It seems like the Rev was designed specifically for that.
I use the ruler to measure bolts, I like to use the package opener, the screwdrivers are fine and the pliers are perfect for me.
A technician also hates springback pliers by default (we use our little finger for that).
So yes the Rev is 100% perfect the question is just for what kind of people.
It not having a spring back is actually the selling point for me.
Thanks for the video. It convinced me to buy the REV. It is the closest to the retired SIDECLIP which was my favorite from years ago. For old guys like me that just need a quick tool and do not plan to fall-a-tree or file-thru-prison-bars with my pocket knife, the REV is great. As for the lack of a spring in pliers I guess none of my other pliers have springs so the REV is more familiar in actual use. The different wire-stripper will require more attention to applied-pressure, but the other two look like that would work only for 14 gauge romex. The box-opener is most useful in opening electronics boxes which is 90% of what I open-- no danger of cutting a cord or nicking a screen. Oh, BTW, on most denim jeans like the ones you are wearing, the pocket-watch pocket has been deepened to accommodate pocket knives which save on wearing-out the pocket lip and probably keeps the knife higher and less likely to pressure up-and-out when sitting.
The rev is probably the best budget multi tool you can buy. A steal for $35-40. Cannot go wrong
Actually, watching this video makes me more confident that I made the right purchase for what the tool’s intended use is. A thorough review, but I don’t agree with the conclusions.
The rev is great. People succumb to your opinion way too much. Something you missed is that the wire cutters actually cross on the Rev, like the Wave. The wingman and sidekick's wire cutters don't even meet. So you didn't demonstrate the cutters. That's a biased test. You can see space between them. That seriously affects their ability. I had a hard time even cutting snare wire and paper clips. It's a breeze with the rev. Next, I have edc-ed the Rev, and the opening isn't all that bad. I think it looks cool, and if you practice, it becomes much more dextile. Finally, that pocket clip detail was useless. Another biased and untested opinion. I carried the wingman for over a year, and the pocket clip had gotten so loose that you could rotate it easily. I've carried the rev for a couple months, and it is strong. I think that you need to actually carry a piece of gear for half a year or so, so that you don't have these untested opinions. As a gear reviewer your opinion should be based on facts or unbiased opinions based upon duration testing. Bad review of a great product. And change your title to, "Leatherman Rev: Why I Hate It".
If you like it more power to you. The price/value/performance ratio is not there for me. As a gear reviewer to test something for half a year is impractical. I would post a video month or even less. The testing and use we do on this channel is some of the most tough and consistent around. But at the end of the day its just my opinion, you can agree or disagree.
I have all three and my opinion is the same as yours. I find the Rev. is in my pocket far more the either of the others. I feel it's a great multi-tool and I picked mine up for 29.99 well worth every penny. most the time he's spot on but please remember when you don't have to pay for stuff and you have hundreds of dollars worth of gear run throw your hands you can " bitch" about things that are not at all a problem. for 50% of the people he is saving them money. for me and you we just got lucky we actually got one to find we like it. there are others out there that will also see it and pick it up. they to will find that for them it's the right one. but I don't see it as the worst multi-tool ever. have you ever had a Gerber. they make some really good and quite frankly they very worst multi-tool out there
who the fuck needs a box cutter when you have a knife ? i think the can opener wold work the same if you needed it to.
i brought a rev for my first leatherman and i love it. it's now my EDC. when the cost of a wingman and a sidekick here in australia is over $100 and the rev is $50 - thats a huge difference for not much in terms of usefulness.
David To be honest, I watch this channel's vids to see the tests and specs, but I don't really care for the opinion. It often sounds mad biased.
dude.... the letherman rev is in the top 3 budget multitool...
And which is top 1?

I prefer my Rev. I dissagree with your review 100%

👍👍
Rev is awesome!
For the price it’s hard to beat. Of course there are better leathermans that are way better but for the price it’s pretty great.
My blade snapped after 1 year using at work ,nothing drastic, it just snapped , better pliers than wingman though
I was surprised how much I really liked the Rev. It's light and easy to carry and use.
Weak review. The title, introduction and summary are wildly out of proportion to the specific criticisms of the tool that you actually levy.
That's what I thought. I watched the review and was like, so what's to hate, seems like a decent tool.
The Rev is a great tool for somebody who isn't LAZY,
Right this guy is really nitpicky !
I think the Rev is a pretty good multi-tool 👍
the two hand opening blade was designed for the european market, in germany for example just recently multitools with one hand opening locking blades have been basically banned to carry otherwise they're in the same category as the massive range of blades that are restricted in germanistan already
I'm from Italy and also here you "shouldn't" carry a knife that you can open with one hand, they can be sold but if the police search you and find it in your pocket you could be in trouble
@@Mekrath85 grew up in Germany glad I don't in that socialist shit hole anymore. Self defense is banned there
@@Mikey-ym6ok In the entirety of European union, in fact!
@@feelsman7837 Nope, in Slovakia and Czech republic you can carry whatever knife you want almost anywhere. You might have to let the police babysit it for you when you go to the court for instance.
@@Lumpy_Peter
I was referring to the self defense part. I don't think you could shoot an intruder without getting jailtime unless you have really good lawyers and lots of money to spend on them (as did Kňažko).
Hi,
My first reaction was to dislike the video from the start but you do not deserve that treatment. You do good reviews of products and I value your opinion. However I do have some remarks. Before I tell you my remarks, here's some history; I have used (only) the original Learherman since the early 80s and I was satisfied with that. My house burned down 3 years ago and my Leatherman was lost. I needed a replacement.
I bought the wingman. I did not pay attention and I do not like the serated blade. Furthermore my pocketclip is not steady; it moves.
I needed another one. I looked at the Rev. (I got the scissors on my victorinox) I bought it. It has been my edc for about 3 years now. The clip is still solid. It does everything I need (like my original Leatherman). I actually prefer the pliers not to be spring loaded.
For a while I had interchanged the blades thinking that the springloaded pliers would be a bonus. I reverted back.
At the moment my Wingman is in my "mecanics purse" on my bycicle and the Rev is in my pocket.
I am convinced that a Wingman or Sidekick does not outdo my Rev. I am convinced that e.g. a Wave would outdo my Rev but knowing that I can buy several Rev for the price of 1 Wave I doubt that the Wave would outdo me in the long run for the same price.
Anyway, that's my humble opinion.
Kind regards,
Alain
Leathermans are tools and not weapons. So not being able to open it with one hand in 1 second is not an issue. The notch being up there means you're supposed to use two hands to open it.
weapon or a tool fast access matters on both.
not to mention sometimes only one hand is free.
Yes, ppl often forget that some countries actually ban one hand open knife tools. Leatherman doesn't have same curtsy offered to it as victorinox where I live and law suddenly gets lot stricter when it comes to leatherman blades. Because they better, longer and thicker? Maybe, but police don't want you to open it with one hand, if possible not at all in public. Leatherman is just adapting to new markets with products like rev.
Summitperry why do Americans always want’s A knife who can kill fast jeez
It literally says one hand opening on the box

I have a REV and it's awsome! The package opener is a great feature. I do agree that something better could be done with the file. Plus, my clip is solid.
Anyone has tried grinding the package opener into an eyeglass screwdriver or awl?
Company gave me the Rev for work. Love this tool not flashy or bulky with tools you'll never use and has everything to get the job done. Been using it for about 2 years now
I think you missed the boat on this one. I have the Rev, and I love it. Is it the best? Absolutely not, but it is a great tool for what I paid for it: $20.
+Brian McWhorter Also, the wire cutters on the Rev are better than on the Wingman and Sidekick, in my opinion.
could not agree more, I have no complaints with mine and I also paid twenty bucks for mine. Too many people think they are multitool experts but at the end of the day it's up to the individual who buys it and not someone who thinks they are an expert.
Brian McWhorter I totaly agree with you. At this price point this is a great tool. Maybe not as high quality as a higher priced tool, but thats why its cheaper. Ive had one for about a year and love it.
I 100% agree with you. I love the rev for the money. Has worked.
They sell them for $100 at Home Depot
I kinda like mine. Got it as a gift from work
I think if you could get one for the $20 range like it was during Christmas than it's a perfectly fine tool. And it's still a better tool than those cheap ten dollar bargain tools you see.
I agree. I picked two up for 20 bucks a piece. great at that price.
+rommel338 I live in Perth. I paid $169 for a Leatherman Surge, Smith Pocket Pal, Screw driver bits, and the leatherman Molle pouch on eBay. Considering that the Leatherman Wave in BCF sells for $199, with just the leather pouch :)
I got a good deal! It shipped to my door within 4 days from over east, with full tracking history!
Being 18 at the time, I lived on cheap meals for a month but i have never had any regrets since!
Wow, that's a lot of money for a "lousy" Sidekick. How much more is a wave?
Thad Miller In stores here in Australia, a basic Wave with pouch and no extras cost's $199. Online is a bit cheaper. Hence why I bought a Surge online. I wasn't going to pay $300 for one in store.
I bought mine on clearance for $20 for use in an emergency kit. It definitely beats all the other garbage in that price range and is perfect for the purpose I bought it for.
The Leatherman Rev is great. I've owned several Leatherman tools, and the Rev is my favorite. Have used it for 5 years. Very low cost, light weight, compact, I like the blade lock, attached clip, removable hex screws (not riveted). All action is very smooth, nothing is loose, very well made. Only complaint is that the can opener broke at some point.
The reason for the blade notch is relocated on the Rev is it makes the blade much stronger and less likely to snap in half, rather than the notch near the blade pivot, where prying stresses are highest.
I've been impressed with my Rev. Very smooth with no slop. The clip wiggles a bit on all of Leatherman's budget models. Not a big deal as it stays secure in the pocket. The Rev is made in the USA & has MUCH better fit & finish than the two Sidekicks I've had (one I had to return because it was virtually impossible to get some of the tools out as well as having other issues). The Rev also has the upgraded wire cutters the Wingman & Sidekick lack.
While it doesn't have the scissors in the Wingman or the saw in the Sidekick, being thinner & lighter with upgraded wire cutters makes the Rev a legit option & a fantastic budget EDC/work multi-tool, IMO.
They are all made in the usa
Disagree The package opening tool is probably the best part of this tool. Lose the useless file
I have used the package opener on the Wingman, and it does work, and it does help save your main blade, but it takes too much time to get to.I have to open boxes all the time, and found its easier to use a boxcutter.
I would like to see Leatherman put a pacage opener on the outside of a tool that can be opened with your thumb, because on a day to day basis, I would get more use out of it.
I totally agree, the package opening tool is with its weight in gold opening blister packed packages
@@GinEric84 Concur! The package cutter is one of the reasons I bought the Wingman, I get blister packages al the time (usually via Amazon!) and the opener works much better than a knife with less chance of slipping and scratching or damaging the package contents.
I have used the file and it works well on metal (who the fuck uses a metal file on wood???), i agree the package slicer is great on blister packs and pac tape.
The hole in the blade was likely moved toward the tip to increase strength, following up with complaints of broken blades. They should have added a checkered area there to make it grippy. I think you can buy replacement blades and swap it out. The pliers probably have to be ground shorter so they can fold into the legs without hitting anything in the smaller tool. I agree that it's silly they traded the labor of grinding the pliers shorter with the labor eliminated by leaving out the spring. They should have kept the spring and the pliers the way they were and just made the stamping bigger.
Disagree, I've been using this for years and with regular care it works well
Ianex LOL 😂
It's just his opinion it means nothing
I carried a Rev for 5 years. It's a great tool
Dude, me too
That's hiliarious Ianmalcs. I really hope you were being funny though and not serious!
0:27 I disagree with your review. I use both my Rev and Skeletool on a daily basis along with a Swiss Army Knife. Thank you.
BTW. The ruler is extremely useful when reading maps. Please Leatherman, DO NOT listen to this guy.
Agreed, I bought mine as an everyday carry, second too my leatherman charge ti for 20 bucks. The boxcutter is great for cutting when don't want to damage whats underneath the box.
ya but they could put tyhe ruler on the outside arm back. and then keep metal file and add a diamond fine file.
Lol. Agree
Idk how useful an inch ruler is to you but it's useless nonetheless
@@Mikey-ym6ok Clearly, you don't know how map and compass circumnavigation works
I have owned 5 leathermen in my life, including a wave and a 1995 leather man super tool, I love my rev the most. Not only does it come with a pocket clip standard but if your like me and you just need a basic level multi tool, I think that 99% of people only need a basic multi tool. If you think you need every tool on the wave your kidding yourself
On my homestead saves alotnof trips to the garage or shed for certain tools if u carry the wave
....yes it helps alot actually
Just picked up a Rev for 28.95 at REI. Thing works great and there are really no competitors for the same or less cost. An entry level vic-Swiss army knife would be more than $30. Not sure why you are trashing a great antry level leatherman.
This is a decent tool. Very sharp and has held it's edge well. I can open the knife with one hand just fine. It has all the tools I need.
He has very soft looking hands maybe that's the issue?
@@nathanielbeaulieu6045 He's more about making videos than using tools.
I was in Lowe's today, and while browsing tools, I came across this Rev, for $11.96. I immediately assumed it was mislabeled, or a bait and switch operation. However, after closer inspection I saw it was true. Grabbed three, and then proceeded to check out the other Leatherman multi tools. The next cheapest I found were the Wingman, and Sidekick at $50 each. That is 4+ times more expensive. No doubt you sacrifice a couple tools choosing the Rev. However, the quality of manufacture of the tool is the same. And for me, it pocket carries almost invisible, being that it is slimmer, and lighter, than any pocket clip tool I have carried. I am very happy with my choice, and think those I share this with as a gift, will much appreciate it's quality, as well. I think it comes down to perspective, and expectation. For me, basic tools is what I am looking for. Not a tool box folded up in my pocket, or hanging from my belt. But rather something light, to use for quick repair jobs. Otherwise, I will make time for a project, and assemble the proper tool set I will need to get the job done. I think this whole multi tool genre, has spun way out of control, and become quite irrational, with some multi tools pushing $200, now. Really? Maybe, its time to step back and take a break from all this madness?
I was at home depot one day and they had the charge on sale. Leatherman must have screwed up the packaging because in one package there was a charge TTI in a regular charge box, at regular charge price... I sprinted to the checkout lol
Bingo
I ended up buying the Rev because it was on clearance for $35, so I grabbed one. I don't have a Wingman or a Sidekick, and considering that they are nearly $100 CAD, I think I got a good deal!
Yes my friend you got a great deal I have one my self and it is not that bad! Considering that it is cheaper than the other ones are why would you want to go hard on your expensive tools! By the way we're did you find it so cheap at??!
Well Aaron first of all i really love your reviews but i would have to disagree on this one. Yes, there are some flaws on the Rev however keep in mind that the plier head on this multitool is a little bit superior compare to those two. It uses a "scissor" type wire cutters where the Sidekick and Wingman uses a "pinch" type of cutters. This will cut wires more cleanly and probably last a little bit longer. And i think that Leatherman built this multi tool for those types of people who just wants to have their very first multi tool or for those who does not know what a multi tool is so this will be a good starter multi tool for them. And for the market price, i think its still worth it. Just my two cents from your fan here in the Philippines! 😊
+Hello Ketty agree 100%
+Hello Ketty
I feel the same way. I paid 20 dollars for the rev and the wingman was 38 dollars, The only difference is i don't have the scissors. (but i do like the scissor feature). I don't have the rattle Aaron has, the needle nose is not a big deal for me, nor is the hole on the blade, but 18 dollars cheaper makes it ok . But yes the wing man is a better tool.
That’s exactly why I bought it. I wasn’t willing to buy a sidekick when the rev has everything I need.
I love my rev and I don't agree with the opinion here but honestly the most common criticism I hear is that you can't open it one handed... yet you can... and I do every time because it's quick and easy
I picked the Rev up for under $20 last year the clip on mine is very snug and I found that with the slimmer side it is easier to clip on my pocket and for that price I haven't found another multitool that will hold up most haven’t lasted a year.
I just stumbled across this and I really think what's important is what you plan on using it for. I use it mostly for fishing. Works fine, no issues. I didn't buy it expecting to use it for massively heavy use. I like my Gerber for that.
I carried the wingman for 8 years. I just switched to the rev. I liked the scissors on the wingman for touching up uniforms. After I got out of the military 5 years ago I haven’t used the scissors hardly at all. The rev is way lighter than the wingman. It’s makes a big difference in your hand. I would find myself switching out the wingman for another knife because of its weight and ever since I’ve had the rev I’ve kept it on my pocket every day. If you want a toolbox multi tool get the one with more tools, but if you want to carry it, I would really recommend getting the rev or at least hold both in your hand. A pair of scissors just isn’t worth the extra weight in my opinion.
Dont get rid of The package opener. I have a job where i open a lot of boxes and dont want to use the knife, dulling down the blade.
I work in a warehouse full of box’s I agree
re: "... dulling down the blade..."
Blades are designed to be sharpened when they're dull. Preserving the edge by not using it for light work seems like a waste.
And the can opener can be used as package opener. I'd rather swop the can for something like a full-sized file or saw blade.
I watched your video twice and found that if you tightened up the pocket clip, this would be the tool for you. Your negatives weren't actually Leatherman drawbacks, but rather your personal preferences. After watching I came to the conclusion that you should dump the two other tools and stick with the rev if budget is your actual motive. You are probably more like the rest of us and are really glad to own (or almost own) one of each that comes out. Great to have you out there providing your opinions and giving us your perspective though.
I concur
I picked 1 up at Home Depot for $20. The problem with the clip is the post it sits on is too long. So I filed it down...problem solved. I carry it every day at work & love it. I like the package opener. Much safer than a knife which is the whole purpose of it.
I don't know what it is about owning the rev but I kinda like that multi tool. So far I utilize all the tools on that multi tool and they work out for me. But thanks for your opinion great video 👍👍
Good points but I like my Rev😁. The Wingman irritates me on two points: I don't like the spring loaded pliers and the wire cutter doesn't cut wire. It only pinches it😡. My 2 cents. The file does suck on both. The ruler? I agree. But I am not a fan of scissors on the Wingman. Useless to me since I shaved off my mustache. To each his own.
I miss my REV -- but someday I am going to find it! \
Found it yet?
@@unwarranteddumbassery9263 Now, but I'm sure it's in the house somewhere.
2 years later , rev still good .
Glad it works for you!! 👍
The question I have after this review is why I should pay more for a Wingman or a Sidekick...
If you don't need a saw or a keychain loop then maybe you should not.
This whole review with "thumbs down" is a lot of BS, some flaws mentioned are advantages for many. Also claiming that one side is smaller "makes no difference" is awkward at best - have he not seen how his jeams pockets are shaped? :) It's really a decent model, it has no major flaws that other models don't have.
I like the Leatherman REV it's a very capable multi tool and affordable,
The price is with out question the number one reason for my purchase.
Leatherman in general is over priced, i was glad to find it so affordable.
I happen to notice there official video has a woman using the Rev maybe with their smaller hands the Blade opens essayer and overall use is more convenient.?
Legendary tool, most handy, what every man can get ever, it's all you need ever! I got it from my sister, it's gift. Not go broken easyly, only can rust but able jade that off using that tool.
Here are the comparable tools' MSRP: Rev = $35, Wingman = $40, Sidekick = $50, Skeletool = $70. I think the Rev is an OK tool for the price point. There are definitely things that could be improved, but it's not that bad considering you could get it for $20 around the holidays. I agree that they should remove an inner tool from the knife handle to make it thinner, like the other side. But the clip on mine is exactly the same as the Wingman & Sidekick, they all wiggle a little. And I prefer pliers without a spring. Personally, I think it's a fine tool, given the price you pay. All that being said, the Wingman is definitely a better value.
ETA: Forgot to mention that the placement of the cutout in the knife may be to get around laws forbidding one-hand opening knives. Not sure how many places in the US have restrictions like that, but I believe in Germany you can carry a knife that locks or opens with one hand, but not both. Also, OHO knives are forbidden in Denmark. Leatherman made a special version of the Wave for such places in the past, called the "Wave 2H," which had nail nicks instead of the holes.
Taylor Venable if i live in Germany, it must be the Rebar that I would carry!
I've owned a Wingman and turned around and sold it. I wasn't crazy about the scissors. I've never owned the other two,but I now own a Rebar,Wave+,Surge,Super Tool 300 and a Free P2. And I'm satisfied with those. On the other hand,I've made the Rebar my EDC. I keep a backup in my pocket, but the Rebar stays on my belt.
I like my rev and the ruler is useful best multitool I have ever owned the package opener is fantastic.
The biggest killer for me is the screwdrivers don't lock. I can't deal with that, the moment I put any pressure on the screwdriver it collapses.
Rev is fine. It is like a more modern version of the original Leatherman. If you don't need a saw or scissors.
The main reason I want this tool (or the wingman, but it's more expensive) is for the package opener. That thing is great, I wish it was on more of their tools.
Leatherman recently came out with the bolster which sells for $50. It is identical to the Rev with the exception that it does not have the package opener it has a small serrated blade instead. It is the package opener that I value more on a multi-tool that's already got a good plain blade than having a serrated blade to go along with it.
Why do you need a package opener when you have a knife?
Why would you carry a complete multitool, when all you want is a box/package opener. Carry a small knife.
I've only watched up until4 mins 30 seconds; the rev is, in my humble opinion, far superior. The blade is supposed to be released using the fingernail of your opposite hand. The positioning of the slot on the rev increases the leverage and makes that operation much easier. I therefore opine that rather than being a detraction, it's an evolutionary improvement, and the wire cutter is actually also a significant improvement.
I usually agree with you and I don't own this tool so it's hard to have a valid opinion. I like the cutter on it, though, anyone who's ever slipped cutting open a clam shell might agree it just seems like a safe alternative if it cuts clam shells well and safely. I have the surge and was thinking of this for my dad who doesn't like me to spend money on him for his holiday gifts. Thx again for the review, I gave a thumbs up for your opinion, which I always value highly.
It's entry level what do you expect. Budget is everything
Sometimes, I believe, you try to push your point and just miss it. 1. The quality is the same. 2. The main use for the majority of us are the pliers and the wire cutter. The pliers work equally to the others and the wire cutter lips overlap making it the best of the three. 3. It is lighter and a tad less bulky. You always can spend more and get more. The "rev" is what it's intended to be for the price it has.
If you check out the specification of Rev on LM website, you found the one hand opening is NOT listed on the Rev features. The OHO feature is stated in all OHO tools except Rev. And if you check out the how to videos by leatherman on UA-cam, you see the demonstrator opens the Rev blade with two hands while opening others with one hand. That means, Rev is by design NOT an OHO tool. It is unfair to say its blade not easy to be opened by one hand as it is NOT OHO by design. It is a outside operable blade like juice but not OHO. It is just happened to be also convenience enough to be opened by one hand. You don't say the juice is bad as the blade is difficult to be opened by one hand. Same to Rev. I don't own it but I think it is a nice little tool without too many unused features for an ordinary guy in an ordinary day.
Skateboard griptape makes this OHO. Make the tool your own... at the price, and the way suppliers are bottle necked... we gotta get resourceful.
This was my car toss around tool. Ended up that i used it the most....thought i wouldnt care if it got destroyed, and finally someone broke in and stole it and now im rushing to replace it.
I think that the "thump hole" was moved, so that you can't open it with one hand, because it is illegal in some countries to have a locking 1 handed blade. SO this was designed to be a 2 handed knife.
Imagine shitting on a LEATHERMAN that costs 40 bucks, sometimes even less, the same price of knockoff multitools from China, that has the same steel quality as regular Leatherman products, and it's pretty affordable for the everyday person not willing to spend 200 bucks on a multitool.
"Oh no I can't open the blade one handed!" And? Tell you what, in most European countries a blade that can be unfolded one-handed is considered a weapon, so I could carry a Rev around no problems.
The package opener is great. Sometimes you just don't WANT to use your knife to open a package, given that you could cut into the item box, or even the item itself.
So your complaints are "it's thinner than other Leathermans, it lacks a couple of tools, pliers don't spring, it has a blade I don't find a use for". Which is perfectly fine for a multitool, by a great brand, that costs less than a third of other ones from the same exact brand.
All this for a clickbait.
Get your shit together.
I just bought this 2 years later needing a budget multitool for a car bag I keep with basic things. The review is close the pocket clip on mine is actually pretty good could be luck of the draw, and wish there was something useful on the other side of that file. Also the knife notch does seem to be better on other models. However I have used this on a few camping trips and recently on switching out the car battery and I will say for the money it isn't bad their are some leathermans that I would love to have over this one but are bigger cost more and considering it's a back up type of tool for me would probably not justify the cost difference. Good review
I have a Rev and I gotta say its a great budget friendly M.tool. some of the points u said I gotta disagree. To each their own..and not everyone hate it..so it's more of a why u dislike it.
I got mine on sale at Lowes for $8.97, I like it better than my Rebar, because the blade is on the outside and the pocket clip is handy for use as a daily driver.
Great review. In my experiance, the one thinner side does actually make carrying a bit more comfortable. it doesn't bite into my leg as much as the wingman. I love both but I currently carry the rev for that reason and because of the plain edge blade. And it was $20. Can't forget that.
I purchased the Leatherman Wave for 72.00 bucks 8 years ago with NO regrets. I work in an office and the Leatherman is on my hip everyday without exception and regardless of activity. Excellent Analogy and Good Post.
I have been using the rev since probably 2016, and it's been the only leatherman I have had. I was only ever using gerbers that were issued to me (like 10 of them), so I never needed to buy anything. The rev is alright. There could have been some stuff changed about it, but this thing is tough. I have been hard on this thing, I have even tried to break it, and it's rock solid. It really isn't bad for what it is.
WOW...a whole lot of whining going on here. I have already posted a review to Leatherman early on that the two screw drivers need locks. I had a hard time remembering to keep the handles in the closed position to keep either of the screw drivers from closing down on my fingers. It's just not a very safe design ~ IMHO
The cutters on the rev cross making cuts possible. the wingman and sidekick cutters don't cross but just come together making wire cutting difficult and impossible in some cases.
So the comment section is not going as you expected .... 🙂
You're right about the loose pocket clip and the handle thickness. Other than that, for the price it's a great tool. And the box opener it's very useful. Please stop saying " multai tool" it's multi. You don't say "multaiple" you say multiple. And so on. You are comparing a 40$ tool with a 60 and a 100..
I love how no nonsence the Rev is
Very helpful. I'm sticking with my rebar.
I LIKE the snub-nose on the pliers since I need something to tighten nuts. The needle nose is great for electricians but my bias is for screws and nuts on this type of tool.
I feel like the lower blade hole is better because it makes the whole blade stronger and gives it more leverage if it gets grimy. if you need a knife just carry a knife
Rev is a great tool. Highly recommend.
I received a Leatherman Rev as a gift two Christmases ago and I love it. When it comes to tools, I would go for one that is inexpensive and utilitarian rather than one that is expensive and fancy, and my Rev has met both of the first two categories. I have used my multi-tool for work and camping and as an everyday-carry tool, and it has worked wonderfully in all three cases. The knife is good for cutting up boxes, opening packages, and light carving (do not use it for heavy carving or heavy work; otherwise, you will damage it). And just like other knives, it needs to be sharpened once in a while. I do care for the quality of every tool that I purchase or receive, but good quality should not come at a price.
Why we hate it. Shows it doing well at every task attempted on video.
The pocket clip on my Sidekick took about a week to get loose and rattle. I just put some superglue underneath and left it clamped down for 24 hours. I haven't had any problems with it since.
Haha! As with everyone else your video has made me decide to buy the rev….wondering if this is a clever reverse psychology ad for it.
Yeah, I hate it also... wait.. I flew two seasons with the Rev up in Alaska. It's a great tool. I have 5 other leathmans and it is really all you need. Good price, hasn't failed me. Boo on the review.
boy when the music began and you started cuttin ropes the hair on the back of my neck stood up and it felt like the world stopped.
I have one and work as a groundsman. Everything’s good with the Rev but the blade which absolutely resists sharpening.
what about the wire stripper on the can opener though. and the little ruler is cool for sizing the head of an unexpected bolt instead of running back and forth for wrenches its the first leatherman that i own and i love it it works great and mine is solid and the 25 year warranty is extremely assuring the price is what got me also 29.50 at my local walmart.
All the cons you mentioned don't bother me one bit except for the pocket clip that is a little looser. But I disagree with most of your review and am really enjoying the Rev. But thanks for the video, I like how you demonstrated how to use the tool. Thanks dude:)
My Rev was great, the ONLY negative feature was the difficulting opening the blade with my thumb. Unfortunately it went AWOL and will get replaced with a Sidekick. My Leatherman journey: Supertool to 1st gen Wave to Clipit (my favorite until I gave it to my son), Skeletool which I now keep at the bottom of the Cumberland River, Rev and next the Sidekick.
I love my rev! For the knife, I just loosened up the screw and I can open and close one-handed with no problem. Kinda agree with you on the hole placement though. My belt clip wiggles too but I just stuck a washer under the screw and now it stays put. I like that the rev is a bit smaller and thinner. No need for the god-awful saw and scissors. Overall great for the price.
I wear a supertool on my belt and am very happy with it...seemed a little heavy at first, but now I'm used to the weight...appreciate all your videos, keep carrying that Bible brother!
+James Workman Will do!
+James Workman got a surge in my pocket. seems heavy at first, but you get over it. Dropped the bible though, pockets ain't big enough.
The rev is pretty fire. I use it constantly when I don't wanna beat up my sidekick
I have both the wingman and the sidekick. I think either of them is worth the extra money. I got them back when they were the budget options. The sidekick is more oriented for outdoor activities, while the wingman is more edc oriented.
It’s a budget tool, can’t expect much. But the blade is obviously meant for two hand opening(similar to a nail nick), the pocket clip only needs tightening on yours, thinner arm makes it easier to open one handed, package opener is a great tool, and nobody wants to clean adhesive off their blade after cutting boxes open. It’s definitely good for the price.
Dude, bad review. The Rev is a great tool for easy use. It's basically a budget friendly pocket knife. Weak criticism. Love the package opener. Lose the file instead, but still a handy gadget.
Tell us you don't use your tools (if you even own any) without telling us
I have had my Leatherman Rebar for a couple years now, and I'm still pretty happy with it. That said, I think being dissatisfied with the loadout of gadgets in your multitool comes with the territory. :)
My first time owning a Leatherman and I have to say the most dissapointing thing about it is the screwdrivers don't lock in position.
It is what it is, once the features are known it is your choice to buy it or not. Do not ask it for what it never offered.
Thanks for the side by side comparison.
I too was disappointed with the clip rattle and awkward thumb notch on the blade. Will keep it as a spare.
Thanks for the through review. Seems like a perfect setup for a youth.
Love mine. Surprisingly light
Weight and robust
I think the knife deployment hole on the Rev is positioned for two-handed deployment. IMHO it's more of a fancy nail-nick and not intended for single handed deployment.
+irhombus I could be but I think they missed it.
one-handed deployment with locking blade... is not legal to carry in some countries... so its a nobrainer to stay legaly safe
The serrated blade on the Sidekick and part of the blade of the Wingman are for the things you were cutting near the start of the video @2:18: rope, hard plastic, cardboard and zip ties.
