When you finally pull that out I hope the canal doesnt empty out!!!! LOL
ALLWAYS USE A BLANKET ON A WINCH LINE !!! If the cable breaks it will tangle in the blanket and not flail and cut someones legs or head off. Also never step over the winch line ever !!
What about the ratchet strap instead of a tree saver or a sling?

A simple A frame lift made from 2 scaffold poles clamped with it firstly leaning over the river side will lift upwards before lifting back on shore.. You are attempting a dead lift over a corner edge - not so good... look on you tube how they "fish" WW2 tanks out of swamps and rivers, and a full tank is rather heavier than your find. but hey, its your show eh.

You could always contact a company that does underwater mapping? They may offer to lend the equipment for a bit of free advertising. My dad and his freind were dredging a pond and could a fully intact ww2 Messerschmitt with the pilot stil in cockpit and the government said it had to go back because its a war grave. I wish youtube was around 25 years ago

how about a truck with a power winch on the front, and you might need a couple of tire chocks, or a tow truck on the bridge. hope this helps

At 4.24, tying a rope around the sharp edge of a towbar will only ever give the result achieved. Should have tied a bowline knot an put it over the towball. Rope would probably snapped but would have been a greater pressure achieved before it did.
Trevor C the rope snapped about three inches after the knot in between the tow bar and grappling hook

as for the heavy mystery object, try lowering the gopro on a rope and get an eyeball on it. i do that all of the time. ;)

Try to lift what ever it is by putting a winch from above. Like off the bridge somehow. It should make it easier by having vertical leverage.

@@Northantsmagnetfishing id hang a chain off the side with a pully with a 2 ton winch down to shore line so then you guys can be by the river but winching it vertically
A simple way to induce vertical force from a lateral pull, take the spare from the back of vehicle place it in the normal position! Close to the item being lifted then run the winch cable over the top of tyre. Pull cable with car, inducing the wheel to turn therefor applying lift from drag. Have used this many times with great success
You can get a three ton chain puller i got one but you need something very big to lash or chain too a car is not going to do it . You need a very big tree or concrete structure. Plus enough chain to span the distance rope wont do .
Looks like you may need to either get a bulldozer od a tow truck to pull it out.
That big lift is a job for a sky hook.

I thought you guys had a brilliant idea of using an old sign over the edge of the bulkhead. Too bad I haven't seen that idea put in place on a regular basis. Using the cover over the bulkhead saved the edge of the walkway and made it easier(?) to pull up that section of fencing...eventually. I thought maybe you were pulling the plug out of the canal. LOL!🙃🙃🙃
The way it was tied on the Jeep is why it broke at the Jeep.
I’d check any names on the military ID tag, you might find it belonged to someone whose son or daughter died and it’s a keepsake. Also might have been stolen in a burglary along with the costume jewellery you found.

Maybe a heavy duty land winch connected to a tracked vehicle i.e tank or similar heavy torqued vehicle then onto the hidden submerged item I personally can't see it being lifted without them. Then i could be wrong🤔😳 But, until you lot get hold of a heavy lifting tracked ( to give far better grip with outriggers to help it from moving aswell on the vehicle otherwise you will never know & it will eventually get the better of curiousity to you & all involved. & those watching on UA-cam & other sites that may have this situation posted on that site. HOPE you all get it whatever it is out eventually. But, you do need some really heavy pulling or lifting equipment before you attempt your next try at it. As someone may get hurt & we don't want that especially the young ones. Hope goes well in future 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍😉😁

Could do with something that has tracks A TANK 😁😁😁 which also has a huge amount of power torque aswell as grip. Maybe they can hire a small tracked vehicle similiar to a tank that does have a tremendous amount of torque the more torque the better. As what is below the waterline there is either very heavy ( most likely) or there is other heavy items on top of it weighing it down. & hopefully in future they can get the dam thing out. I like themselves are very curios as to what it is. Van or a car seems most likely but, anything is possible. 👍😉🤔🤔🤔🤔

My comment pertains more to when you get the object out. But as far as torch underwater, it's far from impossible. My cousins is an underwater welder. They have all sorts of gas flames they use underwater.

mate it might be a massive HV cable id put a camera in or cat skan it see if its a cable before continuing on with that just to be safe

Are you sure it wasn't a structural part of the canal you were trying to pull up.
Vacuum suction can create massive force, had anyone tried loosening the silt around the sides.
If you ever buy any winching or lifting gear get ex military equipment.
Cable winching, take the word of someone who witnessed an 18 stone man thrown over twenty feet and god knows how high when our winch cable broke, regardless of tension always stand on a cable when crossing, being thrown is preferable to being cut in half and when a cable does go it has a mind of its own, if you are lucky the force travels down the length , if you are unlucky it will travel laterally but not in a line it will snake and whip .
To remove that you need two winches on the opposite side or leverage to tip it over and release the suction, from there you should be able to drag it along , scaffold boards or poles will be needed as a ramp up from the water.
Good attempt though, plenty more stuff in there, if you think of how little area your magnet covers.
