- In this video, we have Peter and Gary check out and review this stunning Hugger Orange 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. For more American car content, check out our recent video on our Ford GT collection: • The ULTIMATE Ford GT C...
The Z28's aggressive stance and long hood give it an unmistakable presence on the road. Its vibrant Hugger Orange paint catches the light, accentuating the sleek lines and classic body curves, while black stripes run along the hood and trunk, adding an extra edge.
Under the hood, the powerful 302 cubic inch V8 roars to life, delivering that iconic rumble that turns heads. With a 4-speed manual transmission, it offers a pure driving experience, connecting the driver to the road in a way that modern cars often miss. Inside, the no-frills cockpit is all about performance, with high-back bucket seats and a simple dashboard focused on the essentials.
Every detail, from the chrome bumpers to the rally wheels, embodies the spirit of late '60s American muscle. This Camaro isn't just a car; it's a statement piece and a true icon of its era.

Fantastic machine, in this color with two big black stripes! In my opinion Z/28 is a pinnacle of the 60's Camaro. Thanks guys, you rock!
69 was the year that all the MFGs nailed it not just the Camaro although the 69 Z28 is superb. The styling inside and out is so well done and clean. What in the world could be done to improve it?
Stripes are for Z/28 on Camaro. Big block had hockey stripes on front fenders. Chevelle had hood and trunk stripes for SS option.
It's the hide away headlights/houndstooth/rally gauges for me
Chamber exhaust and 4 wheel disc, the V8 and the sheet metal
The 4 speed and yes the console gauge pkg. Those fn headlights omg
The rosewood steering wheel ahhhhhh no clock!
No fold down rear seat?
Put a Detroit Speed chassis and radial tires
Yep. And in 1970 My friend and myself got to see 4 round tailights go around us at a steady pull. Probably a 350 360 horse.
I was born in 1972. My father had to sell his 69 RS/SS396. Maroon over blk 4spd. White vinyl roof. Had to sell because I was # 3(kid). I remember from pics and his stories. That's why I love the 69.
GM nailed the looks in '69!
Yeah, I'm one of those guys that want one; got to ride in one back in '69 (wow, what an experience I'll never forget). So sweet a sound it made, and for the day, went like 'stink' and that's a good thing.
I bought mine nearly 40 years ago all origanal. And still have it today 50,ooo miles
Best looking one I ever saw was in 1969, dark green w/white stripes. Killer.
They had a winner on their hands and only released it for one year. If this were today, they would run it for the next 25 years
In high school I owned a 69 Indy Pace car replica, and a neighborhood friend had a 69 z28. Life was good!
My favourite Camaro. The closest I got back in the 70’s was a Nassau Blue, 69 Camaro with a white interior and a white vinyl roof. Only had the 250 6 cylinder in it!
Did have a rare option though. You could turn a knob below the speedo and set a pointer in the speedo. If you set it at 60 mph it would buzz when you got close to 60 so you knew you were approaching the speed limit or wherever you set it.
I actually grew up and lived in Brampton at the time. Not too far from Ledgendary!
With all the wonderful drivers in Brampton now, I'd be extremely hesitant to drive this beautiful car there now.
I would have set the speedo at 100 mph. Not sure if it would have ever reached it with that six banger but if it did the car would let you know!
The 69' Z28 has the best sound coming out of those tailpipes.. solid lifters, and chambered exhaust, what a combination
My high school friend was a very good amateur boxer. His dad told him that if he won the 1969 NAAU boxing championship, he would buy him the car of his choice. He chose a 1969 Z28, just like you are showing, orange with black stripes. The car went like a bat out of hell. It had a sledgehammer to the chest feeling at each gear change.
I’m a Mustang fan mostly but if I could afford it I’d definitely have a 1969 Camaro in my collection.
I'll take Tuxedo Black/White Stripes. This car is very good looking! Cheers!
I can hear the Muncie M22 rock crusher with those solid lifers going on.
My favorite vintage camaro. Any year of Z28 will be a gem. Great video thanks.
My favorite car of all time🇺🇸
I have 69 RS. Have owned it for 45 years as second owner. I have all those options but have some rare factory options such as power windows and factory 4 wheel disc brakes with positrac rear end. Mine has a factory courtesy light package I’ve never seen on a Camaro. Mine has a 327, 350 turbo hydromatic. I bought it at 16 years old and thought it was the most awesome car to own with thr RS package and hide away lights
302 Cross Ram is the one to have for sure. A guy who appraised an old Olds of mine many years ago showed up in a 69 Cross Ram
One of these was my April-November daily driver for six years back in the day. I guarantee you nobody who buys one of these today will come close to having the driving fun I had with mine! Nobody who rode with me could believe it was stock (except for headers and a good tune). I only sold it to invest in my car business, which I still have to this day.
Lines on the car are beautiful.
The only thing this car needs is the black vinyl top. A friend of mine from high school had one just like this but had the black vinyl top. I loved my 1968 Bronze Corvette,, but I think his car was better.
Legendary car that everyone raves about with its small mighty mouse small block 302 that was so much lighter than the venerable 396 big block brother but nearly as powerful with its higher revs.
As much as I idolise this Z, the next year, gen model was truly better in my opinion. It handled much better with its new low-slung design and suspension. And regarding the ‘70(.5) Z28’s engine, the 350 LT1 was dimensionally identical in size & weight since it was also cut from the small block. However, it had much more hp & low-end torque and almost revved as high!
Around 8 years ago we hired a guy from north shore of Boston to o do our trucking. Al , he has that same exact 302 dz all original, beautiful @ 6k miles!! Sitting in a heated garage beside a 67 vette 427 with under 10k miles that was drag raced blue with black interior . I didn’t believe him until I went there and he fired them up! Unbelievable. He drove his r model Mack every day. Peabody Massachusetts 👍❤️🇺🇸
He’s in his 70s
High school parking lots in the 70’s loaded with millions of dollars of muscle cars. Could buy anything for $3,000 or less. Best days ever.
My neighbor had a 68 Firebird with a 400 V8. Dark navy blue. I still love that car. It was badass! Wish I had $ for toys.
You Guys won’t have that one long!!! Real Beauty!!! Great video Guys💥💥💥
None doubt about it. The 69 Z28 will always be a favorite for a lot of guys.
The '69 was the last design left over from Larry Shinoda before he left for Ford Motor Company, where the '69 and '70 Mustangs Boss 302/429, Mach 1s had his design magic.
My first car purchased in 1973 was a 1970 Mach 1. Still think about that car.
THAT is the car that I owned in 69', only difference is the RS had a vinyl roof. I am sick to this day for trading it in for a 70' Chevelle. Same color also! No cross ram.
Gary's doing a great job pick up the torch and running.
Who's got it better than Gary?
My 69Z was Burgundy with Silver stripes and it also had the Endura front bumper, which I thought looked best.
They're were a dime a dozen in 69. There were lots at Harvey's Burgers at Jane and 401.
Yep, there were two in my high school in Central CA 1971-73. And a coworker at my after school job had one in 1973. Oh and two doors down from the hardware store where I worked there was a small grocery store where a guy my age worked. He drove a 1969 Mach 1 428 CJ 4 speed. Those were the days!
I prefer the exposed headlights with a black grille, looks more aggressive to me.Add the color matching Endura bumper and you have perfection!
I agree. The RS is better looking than standard in 1967 and 1968, but in 1969, the standard headlight and V grill is awesome and I prefer it.
Why do people keep saying the Crossram came in the trunk of the car! Its was never an option and never came in the trunk. It was a over the counter GM item you could have the dealership install on delivery or purchase and install yourself. By the way fantastic ending with the homage to Tom Hnatiw
So true! The order forms for a 1969 Camaro had a long list of options that could be selected, but adding a crossram to the car (either installed or uninstalled) was not one of them. The dealership parts department was the only source for those items. "Delivered in the trunk" is an urban myth that has been debunked.
The sweetest 69!💪💀🖤⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍Your so right this one is Dynamite!🙌🙏Thank you for sharing Legendary Motor Car!🙏✌️🎉🇺🇸🎉
i have a 99 HOSS. this is my dream car.
It would be really nice with white stripes and it would be the right one!!! But my all time favorite is a 67!!!
One of brothers’ high school buddies in 1972 had one just like you mentioned. 1969 Z28 in Hugger orange with white stripes and the houndstooth interior. Back then it was just another Camaro to all of us!
Mine is right outside, I’m 52! I seen it for the first time at 3! I remember looking at myself in the hugger paint. The owner my mom’s friend ended up being my boss! So I was able to keep begging for the car. She told me when I turned 25 she would consider it because it was mean. My 25th b-day with my income tax in my pocket I went into her office!! One of the best days in my life. Pounce and I could tell you the rest of the story but you probably wouldn’t believe it. Bank robbery 3000 miles away the California car ended up in NC! My outlaw. Bbc 4 speed 9 in. Nothing like it. My 04 GTO is new enough to give me today, but well maybe you should see them setting together!! Makes me glad to be a man!!!
The last year of certain models are always the best ones just like a 67 vette which is the last model year of the C-2 and like the 69 Z its the best one built
I read once that the 69 body style almost didn't happen. GM wanted to release the 70 body style, but it wasn't ready yet. So they made a 3rd first gen. the 69. More meaner looking, speed streaks on the sides, and so on. Turns out It's the most sought after today. It was kind of an after thought. A one of a kind. Like the 57 Chevy, only the 69 is way cooler! I have a 69 RS, red with white hockey stripes, that I've had for 47 years I'll never let it go. I'll will it to my son lol.
A friend bought a z l 1 brand new. He told me of some of his shenanigans in florida in 69/70. He sold it back then. I never asked him what number it was. He was french canadian
The 69 camaro is one beautiful car! Best of the best
The junior talks about the car like he had been there back in 1969…😂😂😂
Or like someone who has told him all about it
My first car was a hugger orange 69 SS Camaro. I bought in 1979 I was 16. My best friends all had 69s. We cruised EL CAMINO REAL in SANTA CLARA CA. every FRI SAT night to at least 1985. American Graffiti is a joke compared to our real life back then.
garcon,
i take one of each on the menu
You're right, I don't need one, but man do I want one!
Subscribed, and a big thumbs up. 👍
This is an awesome camaro
Loving the black stripes instead of white. And the houndstooth, nice. I would have ordered the JL8 option - discs at all 4 corners would have made it 100%. Weren't the headers a dealer installed option? The RS package is a winner. Yes, I need a car like that.
White stripes would be my choice.
A nice car, all the right options and an authentic look to the paint and stripes. All for naught. With the stance of a manure spreader, it is nothing like the original. There is no way in Hell any Camaro left the factory looking like that!
Who remembers the Blue Maxi 69 Camaro that Car and Driver magazine built? Used the new LT-1 350 engine, four speed, AC, " new size" F60 X 15 tires.
I still have both issues featuring that car. It was my dream car (age 11).
The car is perfect 👍👍👍👍
Not being critical because this is one of my favorite cars but why is the stance off. The rear is riding higher than the front. Is that due to a unique option or a set of new rear leaf springs..?
Endura bumper would be nice too
Sweet car! Sure miss my 69 rally sport with a350, 4bbl n 4sp!
I had one when I was 7 yrs old lol🎉
I just want one...
69's just Rock!!
Not me, I want a 1965 nova 400. I think the Camaro looks boring, like gmc said let’s copy the corvettes look because we’re horrible at designing cars lol, love the interior. We have had 67, 68 and 69’s in our family back in the 70’s and early 80’s. My brother loves them, but there was something about his baby blue black interior 1965 nova ss six cylinder 2 speed powerglide I feel in love with, the interior was so cool.
Your feelings on it are probably do to the fact that the 69 Camaro has been the most sought after and popular model for 40 years. I new things went insane when I saw one at Daytona Turkey run selling for 15k with the bottom rusted out of it and a tree still planted in the backseat.
I think it was because when my brother got them they looked good and he turned them into primer ripped off vinyl top rusted pieces of crap, remember him taking a 306 or 305 out for a smoking 350 and removed the auto for a stick shift cut in the floor were the smell of burnt oil and exhaust flowed through, my brother ruined them for me, I own a 68 base model charger now XP29H almost done restored factory original with some 68 upgrades that would have been available for a option on the base or r/t
Personally, I think this car has become a cliche. There's probably more z/28 looking 69 camaros in existence today, than actual 69 z/28s. Sort like how all those Cobra kit cars look like the competition Cobras which were very few. In fact, these z/28 - original or clones.- are so common at car shows, I just walk on by. So many are just reproduction parts catelog builds. There was an original 69 camaro at a car show a few years back. Someone had ordered it as a single purpose car. It was a base camaro with no options other than a 396/375HP engine and 4speed gear box. No PB no PS and no A/C. One belt turning a waterpump and alternator. This car never got used as intended and was in original condition. It did not get driven much due to it being difficult to drive on the street. A very interesting and different car to see.
Of the 20,000 built, 25,000 still exist...
@@DonLapinsky yep, pretty much.
I’ll take a 68 please… I prefer the style of the 68. I’m just gonna Restomod it anyway.
The hood on this one has a horrible gap when you look across from the passenger side it has some serious gaposis. See it at 2:22 thru 2:30. Trunk fitment on the driver's side doesn't line up, whoever restored it needs to finish it correctly.
Another option that would be nice to include is a M22 transmission.
Nice, but I prefer the look of the stock rear suspension.
Something up with the hood on the passenger side
Had a 68 with 4:56 rears...kicked alot of big block butts in eastern Ohio
Bumper guards on the front?
Cross ram did NOT come in the trunk. If you dispute me, then what’s the RPO code or option code that I would check the box at the dealership when I ordered the car? There is none! Your bogus! In fact, parts dept didn’t sell them to the public until ‘71. And the fiberglass hood wasn’t created for the public until the early ‘90s. Know the facts! I worked at Chevrolet at the Norwood plant!!
And when they played catch up to the 2000s retro look from Ford and Dodge they totally hosed it and missed the 69 that "knocked it out of the park". Way to go Chevy. Even Buick would have done a better job chasing the retro Skylark look.
I’d prefer a 68 in Cortez Silver.
Coworker has a 69 in primer, 350 4 speed, drives it off and on, needs some body work, it's been a slow restoration , maybe this video will jump start the restoration, he wants orange, il show him this video😂.
Very nice my favorite year although I have an 1994 Z28 convertible no it's not stock it's black it's sexy as hell and it hauls ass I love my car love them all
I have had mine for 32 years never let it go .
As a canadian we pronounce it "Zed" 28, great car
Cowl hoods are steel 🤔
Not if it had the dual carburetors. They were fiberglass!!!
Beautiful! Though it sits a touch high in the rear or low in the front, maybe. Was that a conscience choice? Great car, though.
Cross ram required a cam change as well, if i remember correctly. The rear is raised a bit too high though.
No it didnt
@@muscleonly1 If you didn't change the cam, you were dumping a lot of fuel into the engine that wasn't used to potential.
Aesthetics.
Dad ordered our Z in '69 after riding in Jim Hall's Z (yes, of Chaparral Racing). In '02 we copied how Legendary restored that maroon '68 L88 Vette in DCG series. Factory-appearing (bolt-in/reversible) upgrades to suspension (spring rates, dampers, bars, Delrin bushings, etc), 550 HP on pump gas, 5 spd, WS6-valved steering & 4 whl brakes. So much fun for early-AM twisty drives with Corbeau seats and Momo Retro360 wheel as the only changes to interior. Any parts unbolted are in a crate that'll get sold to the next owner if they want to revert back to stock. Someday, we hope to bring it to Legendary for a light refresh. ua-cam.com/video/v8nDoQOS0Ew/v-deo.html
Ford Mustang Dominated the Trans Am racing series .......
The '69 had four wheel disc brakes, very uncommon at the time. The styling was great too! That RS front grill and hidden headlights were NOT desirable.
Said who ? The 69 RS headlight and taillamp treatment are the most attractive features of the car. Why would the RS appearance be available on the SS, the Z28, and a stand alone option. Perhaps you dislike it, but obviously most Camaro owners and buyers and fans would disagree.
So all 3 years they only built a total of about 33,000 Z/28's ?
Well i'd bet there is 50,000 Z/28's of each year rollin' around now. LoL.
Im kidding but it might be true.
if you cold order?
Imagine driving off the dealer lot in your brand new 69 Z28 the sights the sounds I'd need a plastic surgeon to remove my never ending smile.
This car was made for people born in '49, not 2009.
The stripes look like they are too far apart
Peter, seems to be sitting too high in back?
Nice. We call them Zed 28s here in Canada. I prefer the American Zee to the British (Canadian) Zed pronunciation.
Whoa
Really nice car! The 1970 1/2 Camaro Z/28 was the better car, two inch longer wheel base, 350 LT1 engine and uncompromise. I'd still choose the '69 model, just because! 😎
If I was held to one Chevy performance car to put in my garage, including Corvettes, this would be my choice. It all revolves around that spectacular engine. The 302 is beyond special. Neat video!
Chevrolet was stupid not to keep making these at least until '72'
Just sayin...Maybe you want to use the seatbelt in your next video
Its a great looking machine but the rear is sitting too high.
NOT everyone!
As always, gas gauge on empty 😂
Nice package 👍
It needs about four additional inches of rear tire width.
It’s SO sad where we’ve come since. Just sad 😢. Life was worth living back then. Now, we know we’ve all been sold into slavery 😢
Simply the most beautiful Camaro ever made the 1969 Z28 it doesn't get any better than that .
This is what disappointed me so much about Chevrolet when they brought the Camaro back for 2010 , this Camaro is just flat out butt ugly , yet THE MOST beautiful Camaro ( the 1969 ) why couldn't they just make it look like that .
