The saddest part about Routh is he could still be playing Superman *NOW* He's got the look, build and mannerisms perfect still. We could have had a Superman from 2006 to now.
He had the look in Superman returns I just felt like he didn't talk enough as Superman.. he still didn't quite have the charm or the acting chops Christopher Reeve had
Christopher Reeves will always be the one and only Superman. Brandon Routh is the next best thing. I agree that Brandon did not talked as much or had the same level of charm as CR in Superman Returns but he did his best with what he had to work with at the time. I think if he had gotten a sequel with a better more fleshed out story that he would have shown the same level of charm as Christopher Reeves had in the previous movies. WB are real A-holes that they kicked him out. He could have been playing Superman now for almost 20 years straight. He still has the looks, the build to pick it up. Superman Returns is still one of my favorite Superman movies.
I don’t care what anyone says, I loved Superman Returns. Phenomenal addition to the Donner universe, although I hated the suit. Now, the “Kingdom Come” suit Brandon wore in CRISIS was flawless!
I also loved Superman Rsturns. I do admit I expected to have a better story. It could have taken off right after Superman 2 and ignore Superman 3 and 4. I also didn't like the suit and the Kingdom Come Suit was indeed the best Superman Suit I have ever seen. In my opinion Brandon Routh still deserves a sequel movie but unfortunately that wont happen.
I LOVE Brandon Routh as Superman! In the past, present and future, he is just made for the role of Superman physically and by disposition. I hope he gets to play the Man of Steel again many times.
@@dbreiden83080 yeah I remember seeing this in the summer of 2006 with my dad and my buddies we were so excited.. we are all kind of disappointed after...
I turned 18 in 2006 and finally left the orphanage when this film premiered. I went to a cinema that no longer exists to see this film with friends I have also lost. For me, Brandon is the best heir to this role after Chris Reeve. time flies like Superman.
It wasn't just Brandon Ruth stepping into the role as superman. It was Brandon playing superman coming off the cusp of having thee greatest actor to have ever played him, Christopher Reeve. And those were some mighty boots to fill. He did a great job trying to imitate how he would have played the role.
The most underrated Superman. He has always been my second favorite right after Christopher Reeves. He fits the role perfectly. His story was good, his suit was good. But most importantly Rough gave the role the feeling it needed. He captured the feeling of Superman.
Brandon was my Superman I grew up with, I had Superman returns on DVD and watch it til it stopped working🤣When returned as Superman in the Arrowverse it was like my childhood had returned!
Great interview, thank you so much for this. That part at the end where you say, hope you enjoy your time here in Melbourne. The way he says "I have and will continue to" He just sounds like Clark Kent/ Superman. I hope they use in again in say a one shot movie, or a variant from another universe. Preferably a one shot movie so that he gets a whole movie
Brandon Routh playing Superman again was the highlight of the Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths, and pretty sure I was not the only one who was excited. Just wish WB had followed up on the hype and gave him another movie or mini-series.
20 years? Good gawd. The teaser trailer to Superman Returns is still one of the best ever done. The Marlon Brando lines, the return of the John Williams score, it was perfection. The movie could never live up to it.
I'm glad he got to be Superman one more time and in a better suit. They should do a Kingdom Come film with him and Micheal Keaton's Batman. We got cheated out of Chris Reeve and Micheal Keaton, but Routh and Keaton is the perfect alternative, especially since Superman ages far slower than humans, making each actors age seem appropriate.
What's crazy is that he looked even more like Superman in the Crisis crossover than he did when he made the film. It's a shame he wasn't able to carry on in movies because he's become more and more like Superman as he's gotten older.
He just looked part!! The first time I saw him , that’s what I liked about film 🎞️ he played the role as Clark & Super man very well & looked the part, I really enjoyed him and all the other guys that I’ve tried out for the role. They made it their own, but I really enjoyed him.
I really wish DC (or the DCEU) would have had their act together and built to Crisis on Infinite Earths as a feature film in an Infinity Gauntlet style. Seeing Routh on the small screen as KC Superman was satisfying but the pop would have been immense (I think) if he would have been able to portray that character on the big screen. A TV Budget did the best they could I guess with that story but ugh how most of it was handled.
Superman Returns was my most anticipated movie EVER, back in the days (the anticipation of that one has never since been topped) I was a bit disappointed in it back then, but I appreciate it more and more today. I loved the nostalgia in it, but I understand why it might've come off a bit too_much like a semi-sequel to Superman 1 and 2, and I agree that it lacked action!! The rescue-scene of the plane is still absolutely badass today, but we needed way more action like that. Either way it's SUCH a shame, that we never got a sequel to this one, cause I have no doubt Bryan Singer would've kicked ass with that one! Just look at what he did with X-Men 2 and Days of Future Past. A sequel to RETURNS would've no doubt brought in the action full-throttle. I loved the majestic feel and LOOK of Returns, though some of the effects did look kinda weak, even for its time. But overall I loved Singer's style, and I so wish we would've gotten that sequel!... On Brandon Routh him self - I really liked him! He just needed more to do (better dialog) Some say he looked like a "wax-figure clone" of Reeve, but I honestly think that has a lot to do with those BLUE CONTACTS they put on him. It really made his face and eyes look weird in certain scenes. It was a very unnatural blue eye-color for him. Anyway, had Routh been allowed to play superman in the sequel, I'm sure he would've been able to make the role more his OWN... Instead we got Zack Snyder's superman-film some years later, which had LOTS of action, but lacked everything_else that was GOOD in Superman Returns! I still prefer Superman Returns over Snyder's Man of Steel... I REALLY hope James Gunn knocks it out of the park with next years Superman movie! It NEEDS to be nailed, otherwise his new DCEU is already dead-on-arrival. So fingers crossed!
Isn't there an alternate universe in the current DCU? For example, that independent Batman series; they could consider making an alternate universe Superman movie, with Brandon playing the role, telling the story of Superman in his middle age.
@@deejayjacobs2018 I agree with you. Cavill played a great Superman but his Clark Kent portrayal was trash. I think Snyder wanted Cavill to distance his Clark Kent as much as possible from Christopher Reeves/Routh iconic version which was in my opinion a bad decission. Brandon Routh should get another chance to play portray his Superman in a new stand alone movie.
In all honesty, I would love to see Brandon Routh back as Superman with Christian Bale returning as Batman for Superman/Batman: World's Finest. Nothing against Cavill and Affleck, they're both great. It's just as a film, it can be better. A World's Finest film with Routh as Superman and Bale as Batman would be a better film with a better plot and story
I miss Brandon routh He did look an awful lot like Christopher Reeve But it’s a shame his career almost ended after Superman returns Thankfully he excelled big in tv roles most notably Legends of Tomorrow I wouldn’t mind him coming back wearing the red cape
I put routh above cavill as superman. Routh had the right energy and most importantly, he had kind eyes and smile like chris reeve did. I feel like thats the most important part of superman. Is the eyes and smile than just the costume. Superman was a symbol of hope afterall. A man you would instantly trust. Its not just about being handsome or have blue eyes
Was very unhappy he did not get the chance in further movies after Returns, deserved another shot, he was brilliant at carrying on Christopher's portrayal! Preferred him to Cavill!
The movie was fine, there was nothing wrong with it and in retrospect it holds up better then the Cavill films which are just action figures smashing into one another.
@@dman7668 I have 2 main issues with it: 1) using Lex Luthor as the main villain again😮💨, 2) the weird love child subplot was completely unnecessary. I think the movie has a lot of great Superman moments, but as a whole it's not a good Superman movie. I definitely enjoy it more than the Snyderverse. I think perhaps if they had Lex act in the shadows perhaps creating the villains of the movie rather than being in the spotlight it would've actually allowed for the exploration of other Superman villains like Metallo or Parasite or both. With the love child subplot, I think they just needed to remove the character of Cyclops. No other guy. Have Superman reveal who he is to Lois. Then stepping up to be a father. It's great growth and change for the character. Have him actually act as a man instead of just leaving his kid. I think you would've gotten a far better movie and brighter outlook.
