That shit plastic, the aesthetic and the sound it makes, makes me think someone looked at a VHS tape for inspiration for this cooler design.
It doesn't make that sound installed with the side panel on, so who cares?
lmao they prolly did
@@rangersmith4652 you owned a blower style card? Its audible with your case closed, trust me.
@@sasquipitillion7110 I think this was a reference to the crunchy, squeaky, cheap sound the shroud makes when you handle it, not the sound of the fan. Yes, I have one blower card, but I run it at stock speed with the fan curve dialed back. In my application (HTPC with volume up) I don't notice the fan sound.
Funny thing is: MSI uses the exact same Blower design on their current 20 series lineup.
A waterblock and black sharpie the edge of the pcb, And you'll never know that it has a ugly green pcb...
Sharpie might not be a good idea depending on composition.
@@nessotrin I've done it back in the day when green PCB was only choice. Was fine. There's always space between the edge and any traces.
pcb's are all brown.... the green is the solder mask so it don't matter
Black nail polish will do. DerBauer uses it around the die before putting on liquid metal.
kinda concerning that he used metal washers, cuz if he used plastic washers then it would crack first before the gpu die cracking if the mounting pressure was too much
so...you basically got it for the price that nvidea should be charging
They should be charging even less
Lol how they would be making profit
@@SheIITear they dont cost that much to make
@@yamisniper Maybe, but what about the money that goes into the research to make better cards in the future
@@SheIITear nobody wants to think about that shhh!!
Note to himself: don't buy a 2080 ti from a red beardy canadian dude.
Urn Expected I’d buy it for the right price. Throw a waterblock and it should work perfectly.
If is cheap , think twice , doesnt matter where they came from , and if you can fix it cheap better.
Dude...I sort of enjoy your content....but do you have a volume knob? Why are you yelling?
Duh. U see a red bearded Canadian you rob them asap. Then they'll apologize ro you and drive away
There's no RGB on that man its practically unusable
SuperstarDJ rgb has nothing to do with performance 💀
@@brandonx2369 the more lights the better the performance

I knew you were going to Timmy rig it. Finally we get to see the tear down!!!
"go until its stopped"
he means finger tight
not wrist tight
"the hoovies garage of computer parts" i had a good chuckle, does that mean you have 20 pcs and only 1 works but it has a strange way to turn it on?
He should start selling them at a huge loss also lmao
When I saw your previous video on this, I was actually really looking forward to seeing the followup on it. And I'm not disappointed! I'm glad you got it working, AND a partial refund!
Its a shame ya can't just shove the cooler from the Gaming X trio 2070 Super on it. Although it might not have the same girth as the 2080ti version (therefor not cooling as well) or the mounting holes don't line up. Still, would be cool to see if it was possible. Like a DIY 2080ti Gaming X trio.
That being said, I'd like to see how the accelero handles it. After all, it seems only right that you treat that 2080Ti like a gentleman and give it the best cooling you can give it. Especially since it was such a good deal, kinda makes it even more special than an expensive 2080Ti, because there's great price performance AND a cool story behind it!
I almost had a similar deal when i RMA'd my 2070 and got a 2080Ti Gaming X trio as a swap. I was over the MOON about it! But ultimately, that 2080Ti failed 3 more times and I eventually just got my money back on the 2070. Now... I just have a used 1080Ti (GIGABYTE basic 3 fan model, no backplate). I mean, I got it for £400, when all the others I could get were £500+. And I even painted the shroud white to match my build which worked out perfectly, so at least I got a story out of mine. It was just sad to see that beautiful 2080Ti leave. Since I had never had the highest end of any GPU before.
I was so happy this morning when I woke up and saw the video was up. love the videos man
Put the Accelero or the Morpheus II on it, want to see the temps and how far you can OC it ;)
*"Working to some degree."*
I see what you did there
83 degrees u mean 🤣
Timmy for the next video we want you to mount the cooler on that sucker and try some new and old titles if you could please.
Thanks.
Your energy is literally the best thing ever. THANK you. Subscribed
Bro that’s awesome!! I just had to do the same with a $150 Vega 56. It was seriously thermal throttling. But after scraping off the super thick thermal concrete they had on it, and replacing it with better stuff it’s working as expected
Lol dude keep up the fun content
I can almost promise you it was the washers. Installed an accelero on my card, high temps. Realized i forgot to use washers, put them on and dropped 13c
Hell yes! You did it; I knew you could! You fixed it and got a great deal in the end. Well done Timmy Joe! I would love to see some high framerate/increased quality older PC games, maybe even some of the high res texture mods that have been done for some of those titles that usually cripple performance to a certain extent (like the various mods for Crysis, Skyrim etc.). In fact, I believe there is a ray tracing filter/mod that you can apply to Crysis (Digital Foundry did a video on it as I recall) that would make a great test for this RTX powerhouse. I'd also like to see how old standards like Quake III Arena and UT3 run at high resolutions (perhaps with mods as well) on that hardware and even out of the box performance to see if you can break 1,000FPS in Quake III (doubt it, but you never know).
Good job dude, enjoyed the videos
" Some of you smart minded people that said send it back..." - 😉
Would still. My 2080Ti FE did start dieing like that card. Random crashes. And then all of a sudden: Space Invaders. I would not trust this card. It shouldnt crash at 80°C
@Colin Patty A defect that the early 2080ti cards had, resulted in a corruption of the displayed image that looked a bit like the old space invaders game. Just search for "2080Ti space invaders"
"Make a cooler!" I said, "It'll be fun!" I said. I was right.
Oh man I got so much joy from this. Love your vids. BRAVO.
Dude, your channel makes me laugh....I get all the inside (techy) jokes that almost no one around me can appreciate. Keep up the great content!
I'm so glad you got it to work!
Why are u glad it's not like ur2 getting it for free u clown
Ali Abbas he can be glad for other reasons, it doesn’t always have to be about getting stuff. For example he can be glad for timmy, or that the video was a succes..
@@kaideumers6102 yeah I was ignoring him in hopes for more constructive conversation. I am glad he was able to find such a good deal and fix such a wonderful card. It's always nice to find more ways to spend less and get more. Even if it requires a few moments out of your day than it normally would. Nothing wrong with putting in extra work to get what you want IMO.
Cole Sherrill Dont let that sad clown ruin your vibe bro. ♡
Looks like that Dell guy will be selling a lot more GPUs now, haha
2 questions:
Did you replace the springs with the washers or add washers with the springs?
How does this increase mounting pressure if you lessened the amount of threads that the screw was able to contact with the cooler?
This worked for me. My 2080 in my Alienware Aurora R8 was making that vacuum cleaner sound for a second every 10 seconds when it got to around 80 degrees. I had Dell replace my first one after it started doing this and now after around a year the replacement started doing the same thing. Replaced the thermal pads, thermal grease, added the washers, and cleaned the fan out and now it's nice and quiet. Thanks!
Hoovies garage references and everything you've got a subscriber
Use a Morpheus or the NZXT G12, cutting the 2 brackets. It's magic 😁
Morpheus is amazing on my 1080ti. 84 degrees to 48
Excellent! I knew you could fix it and generate rather good content in the mean time! Awesome Timmy!
When adding the washers, did you use the same spring loaded screws along with the washers to mount the cooler to the board?
Man wouldve liked to see him try mount the old founders edition cooler on it
9:46 for the best baby cry from a grown bearded man you've ever heard.
it didn't sound like a noise a human would make at first.
That's sick!!! I love this kind of content
Ya nice to see it all worked out. Keep up the cool content. And the water block would be sweet.
They look like gum 😂
and yes why wouldn't you put the liquid cooler on it??? you already have it lol
because I want to move the GPU around a lot, the liquid cooler is extremely annoying to move around to different motherboards and computers. I've done it before. I'd rather keep it as the blower for portability for now. I will watercool it at some point don't you worry :)
@@TimmyJoePCTech ahh . yeah moving it around all the time would be a pain, didn't realize it wasn't staying in one machine
@@deminybs Through an AIO On it so its easy to move around, or grab some Quick Disconnects and throw it on it, still a pain because it means you have to potentially move around a Pump too, but at least makes it easy to tear down, if you take off the AIO off a EVGA Hybrid card, then you can use the plate they use to distribute the Cooling to the Memory, then you can use that and any AIO, that way your just pulling out the Card and an AIO Rad. It would make your card one of the best performers in terms of UA-cam Content test benches. Much Luck, glad you kept it AND got some of your money back. I definitely would buy one of those and water cool it.
@@TimmyJoePCTech Want to see some Water Cooling!!!!
@@TimmyJoePCTech maybe you can find a second one of these Alienwares xD then you could do NVLink (8K lol), watercool one and keep the other for mobility.
oh those crazy ideas

When i see the thumbnail i was like :
"Wtf there is 1 missing chip there"
still my fave channel....always fun
Videos like this is what makes this channel great. Mafia 2 would be a fun old game to test this card on.
Hi great to see you fixed the card.
I think the boost clock looks a bit low. It's not uncommon to see 1800s on stock 2080 Ti. Some even higher.
Did you have power target raised up above 100% in msi afterburner or precision x1?
Also setting power management in the nvidia control panel to 'Maximum Performance' will also ensure your card does not clock down really low when the load reduces....
put the good cooler on! i wanna see performance diff o,o
actually, this is the right price for this level of cards...
I think this guy is my fav UA-camr now. Does the most interesting projects.
Im so happy for you. Good Job.
I had no doubt you would be able to do it.
0:10 I press like only for that reference! 😄
Me too lol
glad it worked out!!! I knew it you could solve the issues. now send me your spare 2080 to replace my 1060 3gb card lol cheers!
Well done man, good job 😀
Awesome video Timmy! You should put that cooler on there it cant be any worse than the blower.

awesome video, glade you went that path for people who get rooted on refunds to show how to fix DIY
Timmy Joe: "Let me know what you want to see!"
Me (an intellectual): "Why not both?"
Hell ya. Hook me up with some broken 1080ti's I love working on things in hobby vices with binoculars on.
love it im so glad you kept this card and showed us all how to fix it
glad you fix it man , i expected other refrigeration cooler , but its still working good.
I would love to see Crysis attempted.... and benchmarked vs other CPU's
Forget water cooling! The Arctic cooler looks way more awesome then a waterblock on a green PCB!
So glad u kept it and fixed it.Nothing better then seeing someone fix something and not end up wasting any money.
Good show! Love the enthusiasm
ill give the card 2 weeks till he fries it :D
4 hours of far cry 5 at ultra yeah maybe
I can't really stand how hyperactive this guy is. And how theatrical he acts. But i did skip through the video to see if the card was fixed. Good for you.
Was hoping you'd post this next! Right on!
Soo quick question so other than the fan headers whats stopping you from changing the 2070s cooler with the 2080 ti if they both are reference designs also better to use nylon washers just to prevent any shorts
"As happy as a pig in SH!T!". I died right there..
so glad to see this already after watching the other vid!
nice video ... fun to watch ❤ keep it up bro
Am I missing something or did his temp go up by a degree and the card still run at the same clock speeds after his 'fix'? The only difference seems to be it made it through one run of Port Royal, dunno if it's stable beyond that first run.
Just subbed you, really love your vidoes, keep it up!
wish u all the luck my friend .Great job on the channel. You deserve more subs than what you get. I vote millions.
Dude, $620!! Killer deal, you deserve it though man, all the hard work you put into the chan! Congrats!
Congratulations man!!!
I used the washer trick on my reference 5700xt. I recommend plastic washers, I got mine at Lowe's, the reason being is that you'll crack the washer before you break the pcb if you over torque the screws.
That's a good idea. Rubber might be good too no?
And no potential electrical shorts.
Excellent, good to see it fixed.
I love that you got it working. With that fast of a die however you could have overclock that thing with a water cooler and gotten it to ridiculous speeds! It looks like you won the Silicon Lottery!
I do however wonder how well that blower fan is going to work when the card is under long-term load?
Is there anywhere you can get those backplates? A can get a really good deal on an Alienware OEM GTX 1080 from my friend but I couldn’t stand looking at the green PCB
great vid Timmy Joe.... Congrats on the fix... :) see's video date..
Congrats! That's an amazing deal after getting it works.
I would have slapped a water block or AIO cooler on it though
congrats on the win. it will be nice to see it on a water block
In the previous video, I said you were a fool to not return that card. It seems I was wrong. GREAT JOB!!
What thermal pads are you using and what thickness?. I got a 970SSC that is running very hot and the pads look a bit tired. :)
Good job as always Timmy!!!
Good Job !! Great video, more please !! :D
Awesome job, gratz!
Yes! Do the older games/newer hardware thing- I was actually thinking that right before you mentioned it. Also congrats on fixing the 2080ti man 😎🤘
the front heatsink can be swapped? the one with 3 fans with the crappiest one?
Was it dying because of the lack of thermal paste on part of the die?
I have a GTX 1080 FE card which has a blower, and I quite like it because it's rare that the blower needs to kick into high gear when I run that card on stock settings. My question: would the GTX 1080 FE cooler assembly fit on a 2080 TI blower model, or are they completely incompatible? Thoughts?
I noticed the thermal paste seemed too thick as soon as you opened it up, seemed like it was just filling a gap. Nice easy fix.
Wait. You kept the case open. I'm pretty sure you had the PC case closed on the last video. That can make a huge difference.
That’s a good point.
the way he shout at the mic insted of talking, really does my head in
Thank you so much for this video. I am a fool that bought this aurora r8 and got screwed by Dell. Any chance you could make a quick video on how it sounds after you fixed it. Maybe even some washer measurements? Mine has sounded like a leaf blower from day one. Dell said it was normal though. Thanks again. You have been a huge help.
Glad to see it fixed!
Could you run the free tests on 3Dmark? Time Spy and all that. Would love to know what the card is capable in the standard tests.
hey, so what fixed it?? was it just redoing the thermal paste? my r9 390 gets really loud... if i re-do the thermal paste, will the fans not cruise so hard?
I would like to see the accelero cooler on the card with some overclocks. I would like to see about the accelero coolers cmos cooling if they have contact with the memory
Whats the size of the washers that you used? the Inside Diameter x Outside Diameter x Thickness.
