Shows Danny Carey's capacity - it's a lifetime of experience at the highest level. I'm sure he can hold conversation and play all this at the same time. But how did they align the mics for the replacement drum? - they didn't have to because they prepared for this situation. The snare drum was right there - instant.
@@slickwillie214 Oh no doubt, I'm sure Danny's tech is always at the ready and knows which songs he's most likely to break something lmao I'm sure he's a hell of a drummer too
This reminds me of the time I was playing a gig and my snare stand broke in half, snare drum fell to the ground, and my buddy who was standing off to the side noticed and sat underneath me and held my snare drum for the rest of the song. Dude was a legend and I'll never forget it lol.
I had some friends playing a gig and they didn't have a carpet under the drum kit. The bass drum basically kept moving forward with every kick and I jumped on stage and held the kick until the song finished lol
@@BreadandFaxes And you're a legend because of that. I've seen some people McGyver a rope that ties the kick drum to the legs of their seat to keep it from sliding, it can work when a carpet is unavailable lol.
Technicians are most of the time left in the shadows, but we see here that Danny and his tech are part of the same team. Kudos to that tech, he's one of many that makes live concerts go smoothly.
Probably a “can you believe that happened?” in regards to the snare breaking. It’s actually kinda rare, especially with a tech who is maintaining the drums/heads consistently.
This guy seems to smile all the time. You find the nicest videos of him playing in schools, at a baseball game, on a wedding or so, spontaneously. Awesome, as if changing the snare isn’t a major problem during a song. Cool dude
There's a video of him playing at a high school basketball game and somebody wrote "the only time I've ever seen him without a basketball jersey and it's at a basketball game.
I like how he leans to the side and can still play some of the hardest drum beats known to music while waiting for a new share. This guy is amazing. One of the best
@@jwlsiee he actually is one of the best, ever. And i listen to jazz, prog death metal, djent and all the bullshit with sickest drummers in the game, dc’s drumming is just special and you can’t deny it. Nobody comes close. He’s a true percussionist, not just a drummer.
This is from the Buffalo,NY show. I was in the mid-upper section and watched it in real time. I was worried they wouldn’t replace it before the ‘flam’ part. It was like watching someone walk a tightrope. Amazing musician.
A true “quit your bullshit moment” here. This show was from Missouri. Danny is wearing his Kansas City jersey when he always plays in Kansas City or Missouri. Smh. He does this wherever he plays
@@TamerBekirGuess what? He wears the Kansas City jersey at a lot of gigs, because he can't get one for every city. This is indeed from the Buffalo, NY. The entire show is on YT and you can hear in this moment this was going on.
I love the smile. You'll see most musicians get thrown off and angry when their instrument fails during a performance (understandably so), but Danny just takes it in his stride and thinks it's a giggle.
I just called the family in to witness this teachable moment. True professionalism, practice and team work. Goes to show what it takes to create the TOOL experience.
He’s just…fantastic. I’m pretty obsessed with him tbh. Tool as well, but I find myself watching him drum on a daily basis. He’s so intense with his drums.
I'm blown away by every aspect of this, from the length of the video to the smoothness everything was carried out by both Danny and the tech. Even the smile he gave to the tech with a little "oh well" shrug at the end while never....missing...a BEAT. I've done live performances before(nothing this big or with techs to back me up, but still), and that was absolutely seamless.
That's a good tech, doesn't interfere with the show, doesn't make life hard for the performer, just does his job in replacing a broken snare quickly and out of sight. The audience wouldn't even have noticed from the front.
And thats how pros do it, and then smile to it afterwards, awesome! :) And i mean the tech too, being pro! Hes the hero here saves the gig as its their job. And Danny.. well hes being him self, one of the best ever :)

Lot of people keep asking about the snare and the song.
Snare needed to be changed because of the torn batter head.
The song is Tool - The Grudge
Just shows what a true professional he is. Blows through his snare, & doesn't miss a beat while his tech swaps it out. Then smiles about it all.
That entire clip made me smile for the same reasons.
Not just Danny, it shows what an absolute professional his drum tech is too.
@@mu4990 Facts! As hard as Danny hits the drums, I'm sure they may have done this swap a few times in the past...

To be fair to everyone chiming in, Danny blows heads at almost every show. He could have done this at all the aforementioned shows.

when I was working as a guitar tech I had to dive in and hold together more than a few kick pedals during a show.
Wow dude! Danny is great, AND has an awesome professional tech , too! Makes a great team..
It’s as good as watching SRV switch guitars mid-song.
Techs are the unsung heroes. Great job brother!
This is basically the musical version of a Formula One pit stop.
Things always happen when your playing live and goes to show how smooth it is when your tech does a change flawlessly. Great job!
The master!!!
I love the little shoulder shrug of approval and the grin to go with it!!!! Awesome
Great job. Amazing
This really makes me happy to know there will be more drum vids coming.
I know they were recording in Columbus when I saw them. What a show
You are a rockstar! Great Job!!🥁
such a class act...fantastic drummer..would love to meet him someday!
I never thought about him having spare drums. From the size of his kit I had assumed that if he had more drums he would already have them out there.
Drum techs ALWAYS have a spare snare drum, maybe a couple spare, because, as you can see, snares have alot of elements on them that can go wrong
absolute legend
This snare change video along with the Stevie Ray Vaungh guitar change mid-song video. Absolute musician level 1000%
Beautiful teamwork there!
Danny is just amazing and knows how to choose his techs 👍
Danny has the most wholesome and genuine smile of any celebrity/musician I’ve ever seen
So cool. I love how he smiles when he goes to hit the snare and it isn’t there and when he shrugs at the tech and smiles like “what are ya gonna do?”
The way he's happy at the end, together with his tech guy, made me happy.
Love the cheeky smile at the end to the tech
The smile says it all. Such a cool dude!
