Very nice car, in 82 my dad owned two Jaguars (and a Simca sport?) Due to engines throwing conrods through the block and rebuilds he decided to add a Mercedes 280SE. My first time in a Merc and I loved it, fantastic car. Feeling the pull of Germany he decided to buy an Audi 100 saloon as his everyday driver, fantastic car, smooth quiet and fast, I finished learning to drive in that aged 15 and on one memorable occasion the first time out in it, he said "put the foot down" which I did, as I headed past eighty I expected the command to stop but as it didnt come I kept going. As the needle passed the 100mph he said time to slow it down, so I started braking little realising we were headed to a T junction on an isolated back road outside Stirling. Realising I was in the shit I started standing on the footbrake trying to stop and it quickly became apparent that we were carrying two much speed to stop fully and a trip through the field fence seemed likely. By some act of desperation I had the car slowed enough that while we couldnt stop I was somehow able to turn it in the junction and head back the way we came, much to the relief of us both. After a moment he said to stop the car as he had to retie the bath on the roof rack that had tried to self launch as I smoked the brakes and we had both forgotten about until it appeared hanging over the bonnet/hood. 😂
I passed my test in a Green V reg Datsun 120Y. Great you got the car of your childhood, I had a w124 300 for many years till something would fail every month and decided to trade it in.
Hi Tommy. That's a heart warming story and thanks for sharing. I bet your dad will be really pleased with your reasons for buying the Merc and I hope she brings you much pleasure.
My dads first car was in 1975 we lived South Africa and it was the local version of a Viva we lived in 12th floor flat Dad would drop me off half way to school as we looked over the balcony a local bus drove straight into the car pushing it up the side of a tree the front wheels were 6 foot of the ground, needless to say I will never find that one!!!!
My childhood memory of my dads most proud car purchase was a ex police volvo 440 in turquoise, it still had the lockable box in the middle for the firearms
@@ToolsnTrack it was some sort of undercover car we always thought, had a lockable box inbetween the seats and screw holes in the dash where the radio was mounted, had leather seats though and low mileage so we all wondered exactly what work it must of done, my dad thought it was awesome
I did the same back in 2020 but know that I couldn’t get my dads old car as it was written off after a old man walked out in front of me in 98 which was 8 years after my dad passed. I had been looking for a replacement same spec for years in 2020 I found same spec but in a different colour but it was in dark red metallic plus it was a 1990 rover 216 vdp the old car was a 1986 rover 216 with tan leather and was burgundy. Had some knock on my door asking if I would sell as it doesn’t fit in the with all the Alfa’s that we own 2 Alfa 156 3.2 gta’s (his and hers), Alfa gt 3.2, Alfa gt 1.9jtd (daily), Alfa 155 3.0 1994, fiat coupe 20vt 1998, ford escort mk1 in garage, jeep Cherokee diesel (wife’s daily) and ford fiesta 1.6 diesel (daily, learner car for son and daughter). So it does fit as in with the other 90’s cars
Oh and I'd tried to do what you suggested years ago, the DVLA do not give out ownership details anymore because of GDPR, before you could pay £25 and get the ownership details of anyone currently on the registered of a v5 in the UK
I have my 2020charger RT as my daily and towing vehicle. If I didn't need to be able to tow the Seven or rent trailers to snag motors, I would look at a mid 2000's Mercedes or BMW Estate since the Charger's trunk can't even fit a 4 foot tube without lowiering the passthrough. My 2011 VW GTI DSG was a great daily but was having too many powertrain issues and was a bit numb at the limit although fast
Very nice car, must be very heavy. Any mods planned for it? My daily is my avatar, 2020 Alfa Stelvio 280hp. I'm originally from Romania(Hungarian though) I have learned on a Dacia 1300, but my first car was a 1968 Volkswagen Beetle 1500. It was so bad, that after purchase I couldn't even get home with it, the engine locked up, so I had to be pulled home by my friends car. Oltcit 1200(an old Citroen built in Romania).
Yep, that is a superb car and I doubt you'd get much else in that good condition at 40. The seat belt looked quite frayed though, is it catching on something?

Tune in next weekend, we take it down to him and film it!
Stunningly beautiful car! We believe you chose wisely Tommy boy. Well done.
Very nice! My uncle Brian had one of those in a champagne colour.

I don't remember the police ever using those! Must have been a rare find for your Dad..

Can't go wrong with an old Merc if you can find a good one. 👌🏻
Fantastic car, love it
Great video. Nice to see the journey, both historical and travelled to get to this point
Lovely film. You also looked like you were trying to find a copy of Flyfishing by J.R. Hartley at one point.
I understood that reference!!

Thats interesting! Certainly wasn't an avenue I thought worth exploring given the timeframe, but good to know it would have been pointless!

Very nice. It doesn't look dated, does it? A prestige car, deffo.
Fantastic video! Love seeing you branch out
Brilliant.
Nice that Tommy, not sure on the whitewalls though! 😅
I wasn't at first but they are really growing on me

Just planning to keep it nice and running! Nothing wild..

Not frayed in the flesh, must be the light!

Loved this!!! Love the story telling
