Professional photographer here, but just ordered my first GoPro (Hero 12 Black) and I just want to say this is an excellent video. I’m gonna watch this more than once. Really appreciate you taking the time to make this.
@@forestchaput As I said earlier I am new to all this and GoPro. I followed your easy advice right thru and made a test video - my audio was in sync on the camera but when I transferred it from the card to my pc - it was way out of sync. I figured I might have made some mistake within the pro configs. So I reset my GoPro and did a full format on my card. After first Quik setup I tested it and the audio transfer was perfect. I followed your video again but this time kept it on easy. I haven't tested again but I got a feeling it will be fine. Other question - how can I transfer my GoPro vids direct to my PC without having to remove the card? When I plug my GoPro into my computer it does not recognise it. Thanks.
After following your basic setup on 'Easy', I once again lost all audio sync. So I did a factory reset again and just left it as that. The audio sync is perfect. So now, with the video extra setting where I can achieve good video but audio out of sync, I have but two choices: leave my GoPro in factory settings for all, or use my GoPro for just filming and do any other direct audio speech on my other but far cheaper hand video camera. In summery, as expensive as the GoPro 12 is, I consider it 'naff': audio goes out of sync and I can't transfer files direct from my GoPro to my computer. I give it a very generous three stars.
I'm a 26 year DSLR still camera shooter. I'm brand new to video and GoPro. I've been watching many many UA-cam vids. trying to learn GoPro settings. I found your video and it's the BEST! Not only do you show us settings but you tell us "Why"! to use a setting. Thank you sir!
First time GoPro user and this video has been very helpful as I feel not being a photographer I didn’t understand what a lot of the settings meant your explanations have helped me a lot thank you 😊
I am new to all this and just got a GoPro 12 and Hohem Steady Pro 4. Worked long and hard to set both up following many UA-cam tutorials - but yours is the best: you are a great instructor and so easy to follow and understand. So much so I will be going thru it again and again. I am 76 and love to go around my seaside town of Bournemouth with a camera fixed to my mobility scooter. Thanks to you, others and my latest kit I look forward to filming more. x
As many have previously stated: GREAT VIDEO! Just purchased mine (12) to use on next vacation coming up soon, and your video has allowed me as a GoPro Newbie to somewhat effortlessly properly set it up. Looking forward to your future videos to expand my GoPro knowledge. Keep up the good work.
Fabulous video! Just picked up my first GoPro for a vacation at the end of the week. Had watched some other videos that taught me a few of the settings and showed some examples of shots, but this was a great way to present the principles of filming with a GoPro to empower me to make more accurate choices with the settings. Major kudos and thank you!!!
Some of my gopro12 camera photos don't fit on my tablet when transferring. How can i prevent high performance when i am only using the basic quality while taking photos or videos? Pls. help.
Thanks for the great walk-through. I just upgrade to a 12 from a 6 and this was super helpful. I use my GoPro for underwater video capture while scuba diving, Wondder if you have any specific tips for underwater settings.
21:58 why at this moment does the camera allow you to shoot at 5.3k at full frame and at 2x slow motion meaning 60fps but when you go to pro mode the options do not allow 5.3k at full frame at 60 fps?? So in easy mode you can actually shoot full frame at 5.3k at 60fps but not the same in pro mode?? I am confused
Great video. Now I want to know what program to use for editing. We do ski trips and I want to develop a 1 day video and also a whole trip video. Insert pics, music and maybe text as the day goes along. What do you recommend to get me started? One guy suggested Adobe Premiere Rush.
Can you bring record settings to the main screen during recording? For instance I have quick capture mode and I want to see what the last settings are!
Hello, i have the gopro 12, do you have any recommended settings for snorkeling? I have the underwater case but not sure if i really need the color correcting filters, as i cant seem to find in my country the ones for the original underwater gopro case...can settings help get great colors? Thank you!
33:15 What is L+ ? Is that a mode specifically for Lens Mod 2? Is the linear really no distortion? Older ones I could notice a bit distortion. It would be interesting to see a comparison. As a mountain biker it's important. To represent the trail how it actually is, not make it look easier. This is the main thing that makes me hesitate. Does it just crop in?
Linear does a bit of cropping and de-distorting. Yes, there will always be a bit of distortion, but the camera tries to minimize it as much as possible!
@@forestchaput Would be interesting to see examples of it. and how the L+ differs, is that just extra linear, less distortion or is it for the Lens Mod 2.0? If so that does not make sense to call it L+, so I guess it's a improved linear mode? I've not seen anyone compare or show this mode yet.
Really great informative vlog! Been thinking of getting a Action Camera like a GoPro Hero 12 Black. For Road trips. But I do not have a PC. Just a Samsung Note 20 Ultra and would like to upload them to UA-cam. Is it possible to upload them direct to a UA-cam Account from the GoPro. Or only the GoPro Cloud. Thank You for making the Video!
Great video, thank you. I've learned a lot already, but this one fine tunes my knowledge. And It's great for folks that are new because most don't know what everything is or what the words (technical terms) mean. Great job, thanks again
thank you very much because the video has really helped me solve the problem that I didn't know about in my go pro. and now my problem is solved thank you very much

I recently bought a GoPro and was disappointed with the performance compared to the promotional videos. It’s clear those videos are shot under ideal conditions with professional setups and editing, which gives a misleading impression of the product’s real capabilities. I also noticed that in many of these videos, the person is standing opposite of the sun to get better lighting, or using artificial lights to enhance the footage. In real-world use, especially without perfect lighting, the results are much worse. It feels like these videos are more about tricks than showing the product’s true performance. I’m returning mine go pro 12
Thanks for sharing your experience! I have no loyalty to GoPro, but I can say that their cameras are good in very specific situations. I find that using them for POV shots, time lapses, and in situations I wouldn't want to put my other cameras seem to be the best uses for them.

Thanks for the clear video, very helpful. For scuba diving would you recommend filming in standard or HDR quality?
Most likely standard. You'd have to test it though.
Excellent tutorial
Thanks for watching!
I just picked one up second hand for $240. I’m excited to learn as this is my first action camera.

Do you have a video telling what "Looping" is? and what it's for?
Looping will simply record a video that ends, then starts again and plays on an endless repeat.
Super helpful! Thank you for this tutorial!

Hi what settings would you recommend for using it as a dash cam? I’ve been using it for a week in my work trucks and it’s been nice so far.
I'd go full auto so the camera can decide what the best settings are.

the go pro 12 don't record in segments any more? usually footage automatically has been cut for around 5 min clips but the new one don't do that
No, it should record one continuous video.
Great video & help as setting mine up for vlogging. hope you cover the mod 2.0 lens soon
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the suggestion!
Can I frame my 9:16 vertical videos (wide fov) in hyperview in quik app ?
Very helpful. Much thanks

what do you think of the Insta360 Ace Pro?
Not sure. I’ve never used one.

Well, I was going to get one, but having seen this it sure does look very complicated! Might have to thin about it for a while
You can do it! The auto settings also work very well.

Hmm, I don't have the Video option to change the global settings.
Yeah, it looks like with a recent firmware update, those settings were moved into the settings for each individual mode.

You don’t need the 2.0 lense waste of 100 bucks the 11 and 12 have all the abilities even more
I like the 2.0. Haha.
