Come Out Ye Black and Tans

- The Black and Tans were a group of constables who had previously fought in WW1 that were recruited into the RIC from 1920. The Royal Irish Constabulary was the English occupant army in colonial Ireland (pre 1925)
The Black and Tans were specially recruited to improve the effectiveness of the British military campaign in Ireland.
They amassed a reputation in Ireland as the arbiters of the greatest brutality and cruelty on Irish civilians. They were notorious for reprisal attacks on civilians and civilian property including arson, murder and looting.
Their actions consolidated condemnation in Britain and further swayed Irish public opinion about British rule, one of the key turning points in the Irish revolution.
The song tells of the free state era, circa 1920 when many protestant neighbourhoods existed in Dublin and where voluntary British military service was a commonality amongst working class dubliners. Dominic Behan mocks his unionist neighbours, saying "show your wife how you won medals down at flanders"
He uses metaphor to illustrate the injustice of it all in calling his neighbours 'Black and Tans' and calling upon them to come out and fight him like a man.

Thank you my friend we have great friends from England and Scotland and Wales of the likes, some great people there and unfortunate politics. We are the fighting Irish and we will fight until the end.
@@OisinMcGrath1916 Good man, these recent leaders will open our lands to immigrants that hold not a single value that we do, that our forefathers died for. Vote them out with whatever might that we may take. Talk to everyone with calm logic and use only verifiable facts. Once they fully understand they should feel a strength to step up and share. Be safe and strong.
Tiocfaidh ár lá! Love from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.

@@OisinMcGrath1916 It's just a joke
It's aboutWW2
i love UK&Ireland
Do you want us to come teach you a lesson again? 🇬🇧😂 it’s all jokes mate.
Shits gone on long enough. Lets all let the past be the past and move forward together, as ally’s.
I treat a man on the value of his character, not where he's from. I will carry on telling the story of Ireland whether you like it or not.
The song is not insulting you / the English / British, it's actually insulting Irish people.
@@benmoriarty4853 British loyalists
@@OisinMcGrath1916 Indeed IRISH loyalist, although that is not fair due to the fact that many Irishman who fought in WW1 only joined up with the promise of Home Rule (The reversal of the Suspensory Act) at the end of the war encouraged by Irishman like John Redmond and of course Stephen Behan (who is singing the song) even viewed ex IRA man like "Michael Collins" as loyalists / traitors because they were Pro Treaty whereas Stephen and the Behan family were anti treaty.
Your intro is not correct, English army? wrong Its British Army , Winston Churchill, wrong, the ADRIC was his doing NOT the Black and Tans. It's not "protestants" its Catholic and Protestants, in fact 80% of the RIC were Irish Catholics and only 20% Protestants and the song starts in 1928 and the English mentioned in the song were Irish not English. Good song by the way.
Thankyou mate, I will look into it.
Aren’t the original lyrics “ when those loving English feet they walked all over us”. ?
@@greenman4508 Yes, and?
@@Imyourhuckleberry01 he’s doing a cover song. You said he was not correct. I’m trying to see where he was incorrect in his coverage of the song.
@@greenman4508 Are you confused by the English loving feet being Irish? Is that the issue?
