    The aroma of fresh picked tomatoes from a garden is one of the most beautiful things in this world. Soooo delicious

    Your absolutely right, it is so easy! And I'll take those roasted tomatoes over the store-bought sun-dried tomatoes any day. I looked at a few videos before I do mine and it's your recipe that I'm going to follow. I think it was the comparison of price that won me over. So, thank you.

    5lbs of roasted/dried tomatoes are not equal to 5lbs of fresh tomatoes. So 3.99$ worth of jar with dried tomatoes can be filled with your 5lbs of baked tomatoes for 5$ with ease

      Yeh, the maths are definitely off. Assuming both jars are the same size.

  • @iga279

    Dried tomatoes lose about 80-90 %of their weight in the drying process. So out of a kilo of tomatoes you can get about 100-150 gram of dried tomatoes. Plus olive oil and spices, so $4 a jar sounds about right.

    • @mm9773
      @mm9773 Рік тому

      Yes, mass-processed stuff is actually quite cheap, all things considered. And can you imagine running the oven for 8 hours? Not going to happen in this economy :-)

    I just went thru a lot of work following another channel's recipe. They said to use CANNED TOMATOES cut it half, salt, pepper, virgin olive oil and thyme sprigs. but OVEN = 350º and TIME = 1½ HOURS. As you can imagine, at the end of that time I took them out of the ovan, and THEY WERE ALL BURNT. *#@&**! I promise to follow YOUR RECIPE next time. 8 hours at 200° sounds just about right ; - ) Thanks for posting.

  • @newhorizonslifecoachcheers
    @newhorizonslifecoachcheers 3 роки тому +4

    oven roasted and sundried tomatoes are not the same. The prep and process for each one is entirely different. Sun dried tomatoes are actually left off in the sun to dry out for a least 6 days preferably under a weight wire mess cover. Oven roasted can take up to 6 hours in the oven depending on the type of tomatoes and oven temp. Each one has a different flavor and texture.

      That’s like asking, how much more will my mortgage payment be if I add an additional $10K? It’s negligible. Personally, I’d make two cookie sheets worth and throw some in the freezer that’ll last six months. Aside from using these in souls, I just love munching on them as a dessert because they’re so sweet.

      Good food takes time. Electrical should be nominal, especially for the quantity you can make. Put two trays in, that's 10 pounds. How much will one jar of organic (if you can even find that) sundried tomatoes cost? If you don't want to wait, you can crank the heat up and get a crappy product...

      Well, yes it'll cost you a little in time/money but if you don't live in a a dry and sunny place like Italy, you have to make some compromises to make this. I would say the benefit here is not that it's cheap but that it's really tasty and you made it. Plus it's not like you're doing this every week. One big batch should last you a couple of months.

    Good grief - where to begin? Don't EVER place any food/plant with any level of acid (tomato) on aluminium and subject it to heat! DO remove the seeds FIRST! Oven-dry to tomatoes UNSEASONED! Leave the garlic and herbs [psst - add oregano and a bay leaf], salt and pepper for the jarring stage. You're welcome.
