    • @DirkDjently

      @@johnvice4066 lmfao that's harmony. harmony can be dissonant or consonant. not least of all because what is considered "dissonant" has changed throughout history and in different cultures. Major 6ths were once considered dissonant in western music, but now they are one of the most common consonant harmonizations.

    • @DirkDjently
      @DirkDjently Рік тому

      @John Vice I also took theory in college as a music education major. Just because something is dissonant doesn't make it not harmony. I have no idea where you got that notion from. Not to mention your apparent confusion between the concepts of "harmony" and "consonance."

      Wet Sigh Well I have just about every album from both bands if it helps any. I just happen to know people who literally cannot move past that era and it's funny to me and my mates. Good grief, lighten up guys. It's youtube. #respect \m/

    OMFucking god. I had already been hearing this song on Spotify. But I missed something he was doing that I finally caught on to in the studio recording. So I looked up anything on this song and this is what I find first. Amazing to see how he's so dynamic in riff writing. Just ripping isn't good enough. He's got a perfect blend of deep meaning chord changes, nasty head noggin' crunch riffs and it sounds uniquely his. Not just influence of others absorbed. Wow dude, this song has new meaning for me.

    It's really hard for me to distinguish the chords used in the chorus. I mean, I can in the guitar under what he is playing, which is rather simple. I t almost sounds like inversions of the same chord haha Maybe it's the tone?

    • @distortingjack
      @distortingjack 10 років тому +1

      ***** "Progressive" has bad connotations in the UK. It's stupid and a classist thing, but that's what it is. That's why people are often more comfortable saying "djent" than Prog Metal

    • @StahlmetallerM
      @StahlmetallerM 9 років тому

      ***** The think with simply calling it progressive metal is that bands like Amorphis also refer to themselves as progressive metal, and they are like, you know, totally not Djent.
      I usually say Djent, but since nobody knows what this is i would say modern progressive metal or something like that...
