Haha yeah, I’m not sure I’d play it this jazzy if we ever sang it in the congregation! Probably would tone it down a bit. The bass line and melody just lent themselves so well to this kind of rhythm. This is definitely the most interesting tune I’ve come across so far. Others that I’ve really fallen in love with are 40B (sort of dark Irish type tune), 42A (beautiful Genevan tune, sounds good on guitar), 58 (haunting), 66A (Bach! Fun voice leading), 69A (very interesting chords), 43B (good American type tune), and 61A (unusual, but very pretty chords). I could go on! All said, there is some very enjoyable music in this Trinity Psalter Hymnal.
@@tjhallettI will fully admit, I really enjoy 60, not only because it's a good tune, but partially because of the unexpectedness of it. You're in church, singing your normal hymns Suddenly: RUSSKI! (most Russian folk music is good, but the jostling factor makes it all the better, on a great Psalm too.) Though my favorite is still 115. "Not to us, Lord! Not to us!"
@@Destroyer83 That Russian folk tune is great! Got to speed up the tempo as I’m playing that. Agreed, a great psalm to set it to. I think that Russian beat captures the joy of trusting in God to trounce the enemies.
The blues in church, okay I can dig that.
What are some of the most unexpected and interesting tunes you have found while going through the hymnal?

I’m looking forward to 115!
