It's great to have the wireless option available. More precision and less cables is good. But not for everybody. I am going to wait until it has been out for about a year to see how it goes and hope it drops in price because it is still double as expensive as buying a Shimano Xtr shifter and derailleur

Hell yeah I had the X0 in my bookmarks since forever (because GX Eagle never shifted 100% perfect) but it was a bit to expensive, this is the right price.
Ok i admmit, im not a sram guy but this is great, but i have 1 concern, almost 500gr hang in the derailleur hanger will not make it bend AF? True question
10-50 cassettes are machined from one piece and are going on a XD drive, so don't think it's cheap enough to produce to offer it on SX, but maybe they'll make 11-52 or even 11-54 cassette
You can buy more affordable 10-50 cassette from china, but the quality of shifting will be worse. But honestly, they’d better make better quality sx than sell a 12-speed tourney
I'm curious how repairable the derailleur is if it gets twisted or if it's only replaceable. Particularly since last night a mate shredded their GX (non-AXS) derailleur (and chain) after the chain bouncing, jamming and twisting. Replacing one of them at £50 isn't a joy. Having to spend £350-ish would mean 2009 hardtail for a number of months for me. 😬 I guess at least it's a steel cage. But nothing on a mountain bike is ever invincible.
So let me get this correct, I can pair the gx eagle rear derailleur with the SRAM force AXS system to get a 2x AXS system with a 43/30 wide crankset and a 10/51 cassette? Expensive, yes, but possible?
No, unfortunately not. This derailleur is only compatible with a 1x chain-ring/crankset. I have a mullet setup on a gravel bike, Sram Red AXS x1 chain-ring/crankset/brake shifters, with a 46T chain-ring up front and a Eagle XX1 AXS rear derailleur with a 10-52 cassette. It has unbelievable range for climbing as well as top speed. And it's a very light drive train. No issues in over 14 months, just service and cleaning regularly. I love it, best range, lightest group set, best performance. Give it a go (choose a chainring to suit your needs, climbing or speed)👌🔥
@@jonoharper4729 Thank you very much! When I heard that it was compatible with the AXS system, my mind got to working thinking of ways of maximizing the range lol.
But one crash and you're out close to a grand. Does that make sense? Given the circumstances that one is riding among rocks at fast speeds. Does this really make sense?
Just do away with mechanical completely and make the entire range wireless. Then it would be affordable for everyone. Mechanical is getting ancient, but wireless pricing is not worth it. my only reservation about GX (AXS) is that when I replaced my cable X01 derailuer after a crash with a GX it seemed to last about 3 months before I started to get bushing wear in the hanger mount and no amount of tuning could get rid of the associated ghost shifts/non shifting....
Hi Alex. Great review! Talking here from Brazil. Just one doubt: The derailleur and shifter is compatible with NX 11-50 HG sistem? I'm thinking in upgrade, but, without change my freehub for XD.
A clean, wireless setup is nice and shifting appears to be smooth but I find both benefits relatively minor. At the same time, potentially forgetting to recharge the battery is pretty scary and charging one more device is tedious to me. I'll stick to mechanical shifting for the forseeable future.
Nearly had one fitted ( expensive one ) glad I didn't now going to save a few pounds. I was really lucky the bike shop was busy might save a bit more and fit it myself ? Shop around for best price
What does the mechanical shifter cable weigh? 100g? Is this already represented in the mechanical vs eshift weight comparison? Thanks for the great review! Ordered one just now
I am personally more worried about what will happen when it breaks and the money I have to spend, as the deralier is in the mercy of the hanger, in my experience
@@ajames1506 The hanger doesn't really help much when the derailleur takes a hit from below from e.g. a rock, which is a very regular occurrence in mountain biking. It will only take some of the impact from a side-on hit such as the bike falling on it's side.
Does the pulley cage have the same measurements as the mechanical GX derailleur(52t)? Would it be possible to swap over the aluminum cage(the whole cage not just the inner cage) from the mechanical version to this AXS version to save some weight and maybe minimize the chain slap with a less heavy cage?
Two questions: 1. How confident can one be that the battery wouldn't jump from its place when going through rougher terrain? Or when you hit a rock, or have an accident? How securely is it locking in place? I'd be desperate to loose the battery in the middle of nowhere, with the derailleur on the wrong gear... 2. The battery is locked in place securely. The force required to break it away from the derailleur would most likely result in other significant damage to the derailleur, chain or even frame. The only real downside of this is the battery life. For most of us, 20 hours is more than enough but bike packers or similar folk...mechanical shifting will always have its place.
I'm not one to ride for more than 20 hours, but wouldn't a spare battery solve this issue? Yes, I know it adds to the cost, but seems that one could throw it in the pack and pop it on when needed. I'm assuming that is the way it would work. I have no personal knowledge, as I've never had the opportunity to try AXS.
It's 20hours full time use. So that means 20hours non stop shifting. In normal use it should last 2-4 weeks. And a spare battery is only 30gs. So actually not really an issue.
I agree, it is a pretty fringe scenario but I can see people opting to be fully mechanical just so they never have to worry about it. Eventually, the bike will have to charge and who knows where you might be.
I seriously don't understand Shimano. They've had an electronic Di2 for 11 speed mountain bikes for a long time, and they just let it slide for the 12 speed? They could've been way ahead of the curve on this one and decided to not 'innovate' a whole 1 more speed into their Di2 lineup. That's just lazy, and now SRAM is killing it with their AXS setups.
Agree. I have the xtr di2 11 setup. Bought it 4 years ago. I’m done waiting on shimano going 12 speed electronic. The speed of innovation / r&d at shimano is glacial.
Guys, this Sram Eagle AXS mtb range is amazing, a game changer. I've had it since launch, best decision I've made. Very precise, low maintenance system, highly recommended. If you can afford it, go for it.
I'd bet that Shimano will come out with something soon enough, otherwise SRAM will dominate the high end market since 11 speed is simply outdated these days. Maybe shimano will manage an even cheaper setup too.
Did I miss it or was there no mention of what happens if there is a power loss from flat battery or component failure? Is there any way to select a gear other than the one you're in to get back to base or will you need to climb a 25% rise in top gear??
If there the derailleur runs out of battery it stays in its current gear. If the shifter runs out of battery it is possible to shift the derailleur using its AXS button up or down the cassette. A single push shifts to a higher gear while a double push shifts to a lower one. I hope that helps.
I have my XX1 rear synced to my Wahoo and it will show what gear you are in and give you a low battery warning. No push notifications from the SRAM app, but if you open it it will show an alert (2 hours remaining in my case).
In theory you can use any 12-speed cassette with a lowest sprocket that doesn't exceed 52t, although SRAM recommends only using Eagle components. The app doesn't send push notifications about battery life, but as the yankeeDEUCE said, it is possible to pair AXS with a host of other accessories to get live battery information.
Is it compatible with 11 speed NX? When you say “all eagle” drivetrains I’m not sure everyone knows what that is. I have a 2018 11 speed and would upgrade that if compatible. If only works with 12 speed that would be a shame. TIA.
Thanks for the analysis! 🔍 I’ve got a question: 🤨 I have these words 🤨. (behave today finger ski upon boy assault summer exhaust beauty stereo over). I’d be grateful for some help. 🙌
they should make the clutch replaceable like on the shimano derailleurs. Otherwise, you pay a lot of money for the piece of gear that's going to become useless in two seasons due to the clutch wear
4 reasons why you shouldn't. 1 this will not make you faster. It only complicates things, sure quick and easy install. You have to remove the battery while in transit it wakes up when it senses motion. Otherwise if you go on a long trip it will run dead in the car. 2 crap spring tension, on my 2020 Scott genius 900 tuned axs. When I was taking bigger jumps and hitting rock gardens the Sram spring tension sucks so the chain was slapping my upper triangle and chipping of the paint! Never had that problem with my old genius or spark with xt shimano. 3 miss shifts, if you happen to bump that thing at the wrong time it will shift sometimes multiple gears, then when you put the power down it grinds into whatever gear it chose sometimes that can be problematic. 4 random inefficiencies, I couldn't tell if it was a miss shift or because the spring tension is crap, randomly it would skip, and I mean randomly not even at aggressive times. I ended up moving the shifter in so far that I had to reach for the shifter every time just to be sure it wasn't me bumping it on accident. And it wasn't. After three months of this crap and a scratched up bike. I took it in, had the shop install the regular xo1 shifter and derailleur. And sold that stupid thing for $300 the cost of the new shifter and derailleur. Final piece of advice DON'T waste your money on this thing it WILL NOT make you faster. Put your hard earned money in a good I9 or Onyx hub. That will take much further. And by the way after the install of the new derailleur not one skip or miss shift, just the same old crap spring tension.
I personally don't think so because the price gap between a GX upgrade kit and a XX1 upgrade kit is so little (about 150€). If GX AXS was around 450-500, then yes but at its current price, they will still sell XX1 and XO1
I'd wager the same amount of people willing to spend the price on an XX1 mechanical are going to be the only people willing to spend the price on an XX1 AXS. I rarely see XX1 or X01 kits, it's just not worth it for the price.
It’s not only a shame it’s illogical due to currency exchange rates. I think presenter meant “in USA, in UK and in EU” and not in corresponding currencies per say.

Your drop saddle will usually have the same battery, just put it there to get home.
What’s next, Rival AXS for roadies?
what is the best hub recomendation?
I was sat happily waiting for you to say it would be about £150 😂😂😭😭
I just freaking ordered a SLX 1X12 too 😭😭
Well, slx is much cheaper :)

Can i mount this on 10v cassette? Is it possible?
Does the app send you a notification when battery is low or do you have to check it? Also can you use a smaller cassette?
TIA.
No it’s only compatible with 12 speed
Not for me for many reasons. One easy wreck and it is game over. Cables only for me
Will it only work with the 520%? I have the 500% gx rn and this looks cool but I don't know If I want to buy another Cassette too
He says it works with NX
It works with the 10-50 cassette too, compatible with both. You don't have to change cassette 😉👍
I wonder if you can change the cage from a mechanical mech to save weight
Ditto..I've an XO1 mechanical mech..might swap a few bits over!
When is this coming out? Im buying it for sure
It's out now!

What is the difference between the $150 GX and the $200 original AXS shifter? Also, WTF? A battery and charger cost $80?!?
Can this be used with SRAM drop bar shifters as part of a gravel bike set up?
Yes.
Yes any sram axs can be cross platformed with any drop bar system
Wireless is the maxx. I have it now for 6 weeks. I never go back.
so perfect for gravel right?
Sram just killed their top end xx1 with this one!! But this thing is trully appreciated!! Thank you sram!!
Nope, the weight is still crucial for some, you know...
Why would someone would want to hack a rear derailure?
a hackers credo : if it emits, it permits.
Do I video on a average beating on the derailleur
sorry, is it more expensive in EUR?! 7:00 "600$ or 620EUR"?!
Yes if that's true it's a shame.
It’s not only a shame it’s illogical due to currency exchange rates. I think presenter meant “in USA, in UK and in EU” and not in corresponding currencies per say.
@@johnshade4001 Hey John. All of the GX Eagle AXS pricing can be found on BikeRadar: www.bikeradar.com/news/sram-gx-eagle-axs-upgrade-kit/ but in short, the upgrade kit costs: £554 / $600 / €620. I hope that helps.
@@alexevans1424 that looks like discrimination. At the current exchange rate, it should be 435 £ and 510 € . I'll stick with Shimano sir!
$ Prices doesn't include Tax. And the € prices usually do. £ I think also includes Tax.
my bike groupset Shimano SLX 12s, can my bike upgrade to GX axs with SLX cassett, chain, crank?
i can companies that produce motors will have wireless throttle and few other sensors
So can u run a 10 - 50
Almost 0.5kg for a rear mech? Holy shit!
Thats a steal
So basically the less you spend the more durable it is. If u don't care about 150 grams save some money and imo get a more durable, lasting derailiur
I will not have electronic shifting unless it's an electronic gearbox.
The Eagle AXS derailleur is HIGHLY PRONE TO DAMAGE. It sticks out too far and if you set your bike on the ground it may pivot on the derailleur and damage the pins and rivets which ruins the shifting quality. I had this happen and ZERO help from SRAM after 2 rides!!!!
If I was Shimano would be shiting it I run Shimano XT on my new scalpel if I had schramm ID definitely changing over
Just bought it today. 900 cad. 😳.
