- Version 1.4 gives all Kerbals their own parachutes! Sadly, the game doesn't allow you to enter a command seat with the parachute deployed... Pah! That can't stop me!

I'm hoping some modder will scale this up and add it as a part so I can land my 2 crew capsule under a rogallo wing.
Scott Manley does the making history expansion have the Gemini top bit. Not sure of the name but it's ontop the crew capsule and oddly un aerodynamic

Hazard-ish, this is even lighter than lightest plane with proper wings. And with powered wheels it can be used as rover, making it useful for surface contracts. So it isn't impractical.

just imagine falling from space on fuselage and engine. Then just open the parachute and fly anywhere...

Opening a parachute while in a craft is not an in-game feature.

I don't play much anymore, but when I read parachute in the patch notes, attaching engines was the first thing that came to mind. But how you did it, is just brilliant man! Making it look easy.
If good old stock KSP isn't the same as it used to be, give Realism Overhaul + Realistic Progression - 0 a try. I was tired of stock and about to leave the game, but that revitalized everything for me. If you do go for it, I recommend using the 1.2.2 version with Ckan installation. There is a 1.3.1 version but it is even more complicated gameplay wise and is a bit of a pain to install: have to do it all manually, including some messing with .dlls. Side note - the game was never meant to run with all that extra stuff added on, so it lags a bit and takes forever to load, but it almost never crashes and is totally worth it. I can't imagine going back to stock anymore, it would be a shell of what I'm used to now, after three hundred hours of RO. The difficulty is also perfect; going to the moon is now a real challenge like it should be, with real planning and test missions required. Missions beyond the moon are truly epic endeavors; I've only ever reached the planning phase of a Mars mission, and this is coming from someone who did everything there was to do in stock. For some youtube gameplay, try Nathan Kell - one of the developers - and Cosmonaut Crash - has hundreds of episodes, all in one continuous series; he whent to Mars one, and is currently preparing for another manned expedition. TLDR: Try Realism Overhaul in 1.2.2, makes the game more realistic and difficult, and fun.
This is so incredibly cool, Hazard-ish! I'd be lying if I told you I wasn't disappointed after the whole low gravity fiasco a while back, but you keep making great content and it's hard not to respect your awesome design and clear love for the game! keep on making content, my man, you do it very well!

EDIT: Also, since this means we can make parts that deploy from Kerbals now, somebody get on making a jet-engine pack to be deployed at the same time, so Kerbals contain their own powered aircraft.
And.... now someone is going to make a Just Cause style grappling hook for Kerbals to use with the parachute. Can't wait for the wingsuits after that.
