Absolutely. I don't gig, so I just play through the FX loop, but the tube power amp is definitely where it's at. Now KSR has the rackmount too. You nailed it with this one for sure. I use Tonex and preamps and through a 6505+ it's roaring

I love KSR brand. I have their rack mount Artemis and it just slays. I also have their Juno. I was just telling someone that now they have their rack mount 50 and 100 watt PA’s, it’s a bummer that the QC doesn’t have a rack mount!

Reverb usually has PA50’s on there in mint condition all the time. And even KSR’s website will have a couple units on sale in certain colors. Plus you can really do anything you want with it. Power any preamp you want, the list goes on. I own two. One with EL34’s and one with 6L6. I definitely can feel a difference between this and my SD PS 700. Some people say no, but when you’re there in person, I think there’s a huge difference. The price may seem steep, but the technology isn’t going anywhere so it will last a long time, while the modelers will continue to be updated.

I'm just an amateur enthusiast bedroom player that honestly plays through headphones most of the time for the sake of my wife and 2 kids (kids are %$#! expensive!!). I don't doubt for a second that running my great-sounding (to me) Tone-X captures (from Jarrod, of course!) through a KSR amp and then through a MESA 2x12 would sound amazing, especially at volume levels that I could never (legally) play at in my house in a dense neighborhood. That said, I'd be really curious to compare that setup to my Tone-X captures through a MUCH, MUCH less expensive Fender FR-12 which so many reviewers rave about when I get the opportunity to play "fairly" loud at home. 2X Fr-12 may be a future goal of mine to get that dramatic stereo spread that I'm now so accustomed to via headphone playing, but even that seems like quite a luxury considering middle-class living in 2024. Anyway, it's all good - I appreciate the good and interesting point of view!

This PA50 has been around for a long time, so it’s pretty cool he’s showing it off again. And KSR is a great brand altogether. So following advice from Jarrod is good. And if you want advice from Someone like me who can barely play but has just about everything, I can tell you what I think about some stuff. I’m trying to get a channel started doing just that. Show us new guys how expensive gear sounds in the hands of inexperienced players. Honestly the piece of gear that got me playing again is the iPhone sized Mooer Prime P2. It’s just a small pocket unit I play through headphones. It has an app that you can change setting and such. My friend even captured a preset I made on it for the QC lol. It might be 20 years until I do my first gig, but as long as I’m having fun and not chasing after tones anymore. That’s just my input.

It never ends 😣Seems no matter what you buy, what you play through, there's always something better 😭Right before selling my DSL100 after buying a Matrix GT1000 I tried the Tonex out into the DSL's Return and it sounded like pooh compared to the Matrix. I guess I could have tweaked it to sound better through the Tube power amp but it was that much worse I didn't even bother. Maybe it's just me and the way I had my settings? Just high gain, nothing fancy. But 50 watts tube NEVER kept up with my drummer and I've tried many. They got so dang close but lost all headroom, tonality, and dynamics. I got he SS amps due to having back issues and to me it's the best sound I've ever had. Sticking with my high watt solid state amps. Sounds damn good to me but still a great and interesting video!
I got some pretty good sounds running a Pod Go into the Marshall's Return in the past just farting around so was really expecting much more when I plugged the Tonex into it. Could have just been a bad mismatch preset-wise.
@@donniejean I've never owned a PA50 myself but I don't think you can ever add two amps to double the wattage per se but it would be stereo (2) 50 watts which would still give you quite the volume boost. Not sure if it would be as loud as a 100 watt but that would be interesting to find out 😁
They all sound best through a tube power section which kind of defeats the whole tube vs modeler debate lol just use both and you'll always have a backup right there on stage.
The analog thump to the chest is never gonna be digitally modeled properly. The new EV Dodge Muscle cars come w a speaker that simulates the sound of the old school HEMi engine. It might sound close but the feeling of the gas powered muscle car into your soul is not gonna happen w digital. The people saying digital sounds just as good as analog are insane and lying to themselves for various personal reasons. Great vid as usual man! 🤘🤘

@hyperbolekid - you cannot tell the difference between an analogue photograph and a digital photograph. Very soon you will not be able to tell the difference between an analogue amplifier and a digital amplifier. If you can't see that then you've really not been paying attention.

Fantastic video! I have a PA 50 and regular QC. It all fits nicely with cabling into a Condition 1 case. Condsodated my rig nicely.

Thanks for commenting. In my opinion, the Mesa 212 is just perfect. It's just such a great cab. Tons of punch and great Tone come out of that thing.
Definitely avoid the Solid State power amps, and just go straight for the PA50 or any other great tube power amp. You'll be so happy you did.

Ps2 is good too. Great to quiet down big boys but also to add power to lunch box amps. Very nice units for sure. Fryette is a wizard with electronics

The only thing about using a modeler with an external power amp of any kind is alot of modelers still dont allow you to turn of power amp emulation.
