  • An easy and quick way to crochet and stiffen a snowflake ornament for your tree!
Check out the blog post with the WRITTEN PATTERN: blog.expressionfiberarts.com/...
You'll need some thin yarn (I used pure cashmere I had leftover from a scarf project:
And a size US 0 hook.
You can substitute larger yarn and a bigger hook if you want your snowflakes to be jumbo sized!

Have a great day, my lovely!
    Chandi
If you made it this far, I have the pattern written down for you. Here we go:
Start with a magic circle or wind yarn around finger three times with end of yarn at tip of finger. Slide hook under yarn and pull third loop under the first two loops then slide off finger.
Round 1: Chain 5, counts as first double crochet, chain 2. *Double crochet through both loops, chain 2. Repeat from * four more times. Gently pull tail to gather then slip stitch into chain 5 to join.
Round 2: Chain 3 and work 3 double crochet in chain 2 space, chain 2. *Work four double crochet in next chain 2 space, chain 2. Repeat from * four more times. Join to top of chain three.
Round 3: * Slip stitch in each double crochet across to chain 2 space and slip stitch in chain 2 space. Chain 3, slip stitch, chain 5, slip stitch, chain 7, slip stitch, chain 5, slip stitch, chain 3 slip stitch, all in same chain 2 space. Repeat from * five more times, cut yarn leaving a long tail and pull through loop.
To create loop to hang, use darning needle to weave end through one of the points. Do the same with the other end and tie.
To block, you can dampen the snowflake with just water and pin at each point to a piece of cardboard and let dry. For a stiffer snowflake it can be blocked using equal parts water and glue. You can also sprinkle with glitter for a sparkly snowflake after applying the glue/water mixture

Wow! Thank you so much! Making crocheted snowflakes has always been something my grandma did for everyone in the family. She just made me, probably my last set :(, at 93 years old. I decided to try it out, to carry on her legacy, and I did it! I can't believe I just whipped one up in minutes. Thank you! Thank you! Wait until she sees it! ♥

Just wanted to add for people, if you do this project with acrylic yarn, it should be blocked with steam, this makes it permanent for acrylic yarn :) steaming it gently by hovering your iron above it, pat it softly to make stuff go in place and let it lay for 24 hours !
Great tutorial, I used this and it's amazing! thank you so much for your effort and easy to understand terminology!

So, this is the first time I have ever crochet anything in my life! I had to keep scrolling back and also had to go to a tutorial about double crochet but I actually did it! I’m so pleased 😀 I made a few mistakes but if I asked anyone what they thought it was I would expect them to say ‘a snowflake ❄️!’ I’ve always wanted to crochet but been so scared with big projects like a throw or blanket so never got started. Finally managed your lovely snowflake design a few days before my 60th birthday!!! Thank you so much for the way you presented this tutorial, I’ll be looking at more once I’ve mastered the snowflake ❤

I made 12 of these over the weekend to put in Christmas cards, so much fun. Instead of a glue stiffener I thought I would try hairspray, and it worked! Just a thought for someone looking for a quicker stiffener. Thanks again!

I tried a bunch of different snowflake patterns, and this one is the BEST as well as being one of the easiest! The slip stitches in round 3 across the double crochets add structure and rigidity, so that even if you don't block or stiffen it, the snowflake keeps its shape beautifully! Very clever design!

This was great! I've already planned to make a bunch of little knitted Christmas balls for next year, but I think I'll make some of these, too!

Thank you so much for this snowflake tutorial. Your instructions were clear, concise, and so easy to follow! The snowflakes look so much more complicated then they really are and your right- they do work up fast. I am using #3 cotton and a size "E" hook and they are coming out perfectly!

Out of all the video's about crocheted snowflakes I just love this one the best!!! I tried making 3 other snowflakes and I found myself going back to this one. I'm using Vanna White's Vanna's Glamour, Lion Brand, the color is Diamond,a small white strand yarn with silver thread running through it. It makes beautiful sparkley snowflakes. I'm going to make some in the Platinum color also. I bought the yarn at Joann's for $5.99,it was not on sale. I'm going to make lots of them and sale them at our Craft Fair in Nov. Thank you...love your video's
