Wow! What a great video! First we see a train coming through people's backyards. Then the conductor has to flag a crossing because there are no gates or other warning that a train is coming. The train then goes across a crossing with at least a warning bell. The conductor has to step off to flag another crossing. I almost thought the train was doing some street running but then I saw that the tracks were running right next to the street. Toward the end there were some people walking on the sidewalk next to the train tracks who seemed to be totally unaware that they were walking next to a train. Thank you, Red, for documenting this train and for sharing it with us!

That was a fun one for sure Thomas! Got a heads up from my radio that the IANR was doing a move to the utilities yard. Caught it just in time. I recently shot a video of a Iowa Northern passenger car move through downtown Cedar Falls. I'll upload that one soon!

What an obscure piece of track and then to run a welded Rail train on it makes it even more unique. That twisting start remind me of the Old Milwaukee Road Airline cut off going through the VA Center just west of the Yards in Milwaukee which is now a bike path. Excellent catch well worth the effort

Pretty cool, good ole GP38 still getting the job done. I take it that was an empty continuous welded rail train? Great catch RED, thanks for posting 👍🏼😎🇺🇸

Sure thing STRETCH LIMO! The IANR runs a lot of classic power. That empty rail train was headed to be stored at the power plant. They just store cars there since the power plant doesn't burn coal much anymore. It's still down there in storage🤔!

@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 I'm from south of Pittsburgh, PA, all I normally see are huge coal trains going somewhere north. One side of the Monongahela River is Norfolk Southern and the other side is CSX. All you see is loaded coal going north and empties going south. Closer to me is the Youghiogheny River and that's CSX, nothing but auto racks, intermodals and general manifests on that line, I believe it connects Pittsburgh to Cumberland Maryland where there is a huge hump yard👍🏼😎

Nice video. I go to school here in CF, and it’s fun to watch IANR.

Grew up in the valley and still live there and have always been fascinated with the downtown rail. I love how it goes through peoples' backyards. I would love to have a rail in my backyard. Any idea how often trains run on these rails? I've only seen one in my life, and I've spoken with a resident in one of the houses, and they said only a couple times a year. They recently added more gates to the crossings, so I'd assume it's still in operation.

They recently put up new gates because of the new street construction. The Iowa Northern owns that line and for now just use it to store cars at CFU. A couple of trains a year for now. If CFU starts burning coal again you may see more.

@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 I’m incredibly jealous of the people that live near those tracks. I’d probably walk them if I lived nearby. Very beautiful. They should do train rides for Sturgis.

Wow! This was a few months ago, an empty welded rail train doing street running. And people were non-chalant about it. Not me, i would be chasing it! At least the weather was nice then!

Was privileged to visit La Grange KY this week and see mainline street running. When this was CRI&P, I'm guessing the rails went from Minneapolis/St. Paul to...where? St. Louis? Wonder how many per day? (Can't imagine what that must have been like threading freight trains through people's yards.)

I see the line is on the chopping block now. City wants to turn it into a trail instead of helping IANR find a reliable revenue customer to keep it in operation at a profit. Shocker.. not.
