I’ve been a MWTM subscriber for several years and I totally agree with your comments. The video player and the standalone app drive me crazy! But, fortunately, some of these mentors’ tutorials are pure gold. Shawn Everett and Tchad Blake’s videos are worth the price of admission alone. But if the major flaws are not addressed, i will definitely not renew.

oh boy im so glad i found your channel to subscribe to, i originally found you from the izotope tutorials. yes you are so correct when discussing the Mixing with the Masters, although I have never used them what you say in the cons is indicative to a lot of paid for courses eg they always mix or master with a near perfect track and never discuss as you say about panning and levels. I am wondering is you yourself offer mix and mastering courses!

Good video Geoff. Funny, I've subscribed for about 3 years now and I was talking to someone not long ago about MWTM. I was thinking about not renewing my yearly sub because I feel the detailed, intricate type content isn't there. I agree totally with YoErickTv. I'm guessing he may be talking about the Jaycen Joshua/Pendaso videos. I had been waiting forever for them to get some videos. I'm not disappointed but man, somethings they did was awesome but was not explained. Some chains were not shown. I did walk away with some good tips/workflows that I am using now but if they could have went a little deeper, man, that would have been a phenomenal experience. In fact, I kind of feel the same about most of their content. I agree with your assessment both pro's and con's. Tchad Blake is my favorite but not my genre. I have a subscription with Puremix, Groove3 and many others. Puremix is probably my favorite. There are some others who fall a very close 2nd. i am not renewing my subscription with MWTM because of some of the con's as well as some that I mentioned. Maybe things will change in the future.

spot on your review. i have tried puremix a year ago, and decided that for me, MWTM was still better quality, specially when illangelo (the weeknd) producer shared detailed production tricks, ableton-based. so hoping for more of that High quality content focused on production. their War on Drugs product (Shawn Everett) is also top notch, as well as the Phoenix mixing. so yes, very selective content, and if they could incorporate your suggestions it would make it a no brainer

I appreciate both tutorials .. I searched puremix v mwtm. I like the student price with mwtm b/c they don’t seem to have the walk through over the shoulder process I’m lookin for but I’m also concerned with puremix lacking much hip hop and but plenty they’re stacked with older dated content. Im sure there is a wealth of knowledge on both platforms but mwtm is far to expensive yearly with no 50% holiday discounts to consider when they don’t have step by step producing recording mixing and mastering from scratch.

brilliant video, perfectly described the cons - sadly I did find it all really repetitive and a waste of money (bar the very few sessions that go deeper) and you're held to 12 months no option to get out, really similar content, touching up the final parts of a mix on nearly all sessions, which is of very little use to anyone really wanting to go deeper and learn to fix problems that we are faced with every single day - and for the most part and within reason they're all doing and using the same gear most of the time to finesse that last 10%.. l

For starting learning piano and future goal of achieving orchestral arrangements consisting violin/piano etc... A digital piano like Roland fp10/fp30x or midi controller is recommended?
If a midi controller which one 61 or 88 keys? Weighted keys or normal?
    I have a good pc.
I would not want to get invested heavily as audio interface, speakers & vst like the grandeur by native/pianoteq will need money too🙏

I was a MWTM subscriber for one year from Black Friday 2020-2021. I didn’t renew. I share many of the same sentiments. Excellent production quality, interview sessions are well organized, professional and at times almost cinematic quality. However, a lot of the sessions felt like ‘general overview’ and ‘I used this plugin here’ without actually teaching you how they mix or why they make certain decisions. As excited as I would get as I started to watch a session, I always ended up feeling disappointed. There are plenty of good pointers, takeaways, things to note, but for the purpose of truly leveling up your mixing skills, I feel they missed the mark. There are some sessions that were more detailed than others and I wish all of them were like thst. I also noticed the comments on more recent MWTM that many long-time users have been complaining the videos are shorter and not as in-depth.

The issue that prevented me from doing the multi-day seminar experiences was the amount of money they charged. Unless their guest is offering specific feedback for one of my own mixes it wasn't worth the cash in my eyes. For intermediate and above level mixers you need that personal attention.

True speech... I also scored streaky MASTERING 29% on a master he did on UA-cam.. I think the best is to work on the main audio procedures ..14 years ago I started working on myself spending 14 hours EVERYDAY. On hardwares and VSTS... then studied audio engineering... I noticed watching UA-cam videos unfortunately not HELPFUL moving forward for this generation...and the difference is that most of this guys USES vst that add quality to there audio materials not like the current vsts saturating the audio market now ... they master their craft.. but are having people that work on other things for them like you said...I am about starting my own UA-cam channel to tell people to work more on creating there own ideas not those from the masters...for example I have created PROFESSIONAL presets on waves bundles with adaptive settings to work with other audio genre and materials...most of this big guys PRESETS are just overturned and they PURPOSELY do those things..So people dont get the ideas. ..

I had a sub for a long time, but I think the crux of the problem is that the level of production seen on mix with the masters is waaaay above the level of production most will be working with, if anyone really. In addition, we never see any prep work. Basically *all* the mixes shown in their videos are prepped by assistants, and "ready to go" and then the mix engineer "mixes" the song (sometimes just walks you through it, there're different versions), and by the time the incredible productions reach them, and their assistant has prepped everything, the work the mixer does is so far removed from what non-billboard charting engineers deal with that it's like... Honestly kind of useless information. It's really cool to see how it's done, but it's more of a showcase than a tutorial/educational thing in my opinion. I disagree that it's a view into "how the sausage is made" because we don't see TONS of work done by other people. I don't think I ever saw someone do any editing on mix with the masters, ever.
EDIT: Which you touched on the moment after I finished typing this ha.

Cool video. I just watched one of their videos that interested me and I swear I didn't learn anything. The man's just shows his plugin and tells you why it's important but you don't actually get to mix with the mans from scratch. Which really sucks. Like if i paid their almost $400/yr pricing, I would want something way more detailed than that. I still appreciate seeing it but at that price, Would like to have more than just "hey these are my plugins, they're really dope" kind of thing.

I don't think most of this stuff is as beneficial if no one is using a reference to get the rough mixing sonically where it needs to sit, A/B Metric is amazing for this while using the spectrum analyzer for averaging out the drum section, bass, vocals, etc.... Thank you Luca Pretolesi. note: then things like, ohh I just did 3 dBs of compression on an already good rough will make more sense. No Shade Jaycen J , always love your mixes 🙌🏾

Was there for a year, didnt renew. As said by many people here, in a lot of videos they dont actually teach anything, they only show the plugins and maybe (maybe) some 1-2 tricks that are something good. Songs they mix are also miles above ANYTHING Ive encountered while mixing people. I know they are mixing that songs cause they achieve the status they deserve, but its not a real world for most of us. Roughs sound crazy good from the start, and I can def say that I dont have see anything like that working with people lol. Ive been in PureMix too and I liked it a lot more. You can like Dupont personality or not, but the man is passionated about teaching and WHY he is doing what he is doing, and for me thats all I need to know. I dont learn antyhing if you say me that you put 5db at 8k cause it sounded good to you, but I def learn if you teach me how to listen a 76 for example. Maybe they should update more frequently and with more genre-diverse stuff, but for me Puremix was ahead.

Honestly, the deification of these guys puts me off and the expensive hardware they use makes the videos seem like they're gonna be pretty useless to me.
If they were editing and mixing a song that needed a decent amount of work, with timing issues and other problems, I'd be all over it.
A free trial could change my mind, but I think my money would be better spent on a UA-cam Premium account.
Cool video Geoff, keep it coming man.

I belonged to the "Produce Like a Pro" Academy and cancelled my sub after 6 months. They only gave you general information. No pro is going to give you their secrets to great mixing. Why would they? That's the equivalent of helping your possible future competitors make records as good as yours. And from what I've read about MWTM, it doesn't sound that much different. If you want an education in mixing just go to a certified mixing school. You'll be better off in the long run!

love your (other) videos man, but you said "we" too much this feels a lot like advertisement, but on 5:00 you said you just a subscriber, had too much of ads already, see you next week. :)
Anyway I used to subs solely for the rare Andy Wallace videos, the man only given 1 interview that I know and now these videos but it was fun, watched like 10+ others but from my personal opinion, it's just a Netflix show with superstar mixers telling you 90% what you already know, showing off their million dollars gears and then saying, it is possible to do all that with plugin, with a little smirk on their face.
Also, the song was recorded by another superstar tracking engineer or produced by superstar producer that have done atleast 80% of everything and the master will be like "I just add some 8k boost on my console EQ here, no compression whatsover". That rarely happens here outside of the superstar world where we face wayyy harder and trickier problems and fixing all sort of crazy things simply because it isn't possible to ask the client to re-do them all at any stage of the production because yeah, they are poor like us too. What is there to learn then ? am talking from a mixer point of view.
I remember I stopped the subs because of the great Jack Joseph Puig in his video said that 48kHz and 96kHz samplerate sounds "digital" to him and he chose to work in 44kHz or 88kHz because it sounds smoother. I understand that is his own opinion, but I just can't brain that one, and to say that on educational content is a little weird. There are other more proper technical opinion about the sample rate out there such as the quantization error and stuff for choosing 48 and 96 but even them can't say that it is audible, certainly not to a 50 year old! Maybe he is right, maybe he can feel it, but that's when I stopped watching.
It was fun to watch, like a said, a Netflix show superbly done, it feels premium, if you want to really learn, maybe look somewhere else. Again, this is my own opinion, people are allowed to think otherwise. Thanks.
