- The ULTIMATE PC Water Cooling Race. Today we put some D5 and DDC water cooling pumps to thge ultimate test. Our aim is to find out which water cooling pump is the best for your water cooled pc build. This guide will test the times it takes for pumps to push liquid from one point to another testing both head pressure and flow rate. So which is the ultimate water cooling pump?

The sprinkler joke had me howling! XDXDXD
This is great content, informative with a colourful lockdown twist. Not enough watercooling channels do any benchmarks of the individual parts of their loops. Some different radiator thermals would be greatly appreciated. You're doing a cracking job.
Thanks mate thats a fantastic idea
I agree.
Just got into bespoke gaming pc's and wanted to upgrade to liquid cooled. Your videos have helped me out so much!
Lol that was actually really good and refreshing, loving the style of videos man! keep up the great work!
Thanks dude =)
Yeah
Great video and explanation from your findings mate, makes my purchasing choice much easier although how does the EK Quantum reservoir compare to EK's new line of distro plates?
Very good video, learned a lot! Thank you for posting!
As I felt the need to express my opinion on your Corsair waterblock video it's only fair to give it now.
This was an amazingly interesting video! This is the opposite of what I thought about the previous video, absolutely original and refreshing. Thank you!
Thank you
Well done, thanks for sharing the experiment!
Have been waiting for this content for a long while, fantastic!
Would have hoped for comparison from Bykski and Alphacool as well though
Great job!
Thanks! Yes unfortunately i dont have those pumps
I have heard good things about Alphacool? can you get them in Australia?
thank for doing this...Great video. I was wondering which pump to get. I have an external cooler with 3x 360mm radiator going down to a different room. Im guessing the EK pump would be the best. Thanks again for the video
Love this video and literally the day before I shop for pump res combos
This is some great and interesting content to watch! Helpful and entertaining!
I can see his channel growing. See you soon at 1 million subscribers. Best of luck 👍
So since the D5 pumps are interchangeable, does that mean sticking an EK pump in the Corsair XD5 will make it better? Or is it the design of EK's hardware that makes it flow faster?
Love it, this was a great piece of content. And i was ekwb all along, and a win!
Yeah ek gang rise up
Sick vid bro! I love all your videos!
Thanks. I was trying to decide what to get.
can we have a more detailed comparison DDC vs D5 with several flow rate sensors and water-cooling components ?
Now question is.. do we get pump/res combo or res and pump separately? I feel like anything that is a combo is never as good as buying the components separately.
im really happy to see the results since I've been trying to tell people that the DDC pumps are really good and under rated big time. Would have loved to see EK's DDC in action compared to the unknown specs ddc lol
Interesting how you come to the exact opposite conclusion that DerBauer and others have drawn. That being that a D5 running at 50% generally provides enough head pressure to run a basic CPU and GPU with a single rad loop. And that a DDC won't start to shine until you get into pretty restrictive loops with multiple GPU blocks and radiators.
The DDC might look good on paper for most loops, it's more compact, provides more pressure and will deliver more flow than your loop will ever need, but it also has 2 big down sides. The first being that a DDC needs to be air cooled, whereas a D5 is cooled by the coolant it pumps. The second being that because the impeller on a DDC is so much smaller than the impeller on a D5, it needs to spin faster to get the same flow rate, which makes it louder. And with it having to run harder it needs more power than a D5 which means more heat that has to be blown out of the case, which means your fans have to spin faster and thus make more noise.
I'd only recommend a DDC if there is a 'technical' requirement to do so. Either because of space constraints, pressure requirements, or if performance is all that matters and you're willing to run 2 DDCs. Otherwise I'd always go for a D5, simply because 9 out of 10 loops can easily be handled with a D5 and it is more quiet than a DDC.
hey guys! i love ur custom pc builds and the themes u guys do! they all look so amazing. I was wondering if u maybe could do a "Crysis" themed pc case? Something like the Jurassic World or Venom build.
Loved this video for no good reason.
Thanks
nice soundtrack its what makes a video great
keep doing it :)
Thank you
love the video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..big big fan keep up
Which version of the DDC is that? There's a lot of different versions. The newest is the 3.25 but I'd be curious to see a battle of the DDC pumps!
can you do an rgb fan review namely: corsair ql120.140, thermaltake riing quad 120/140 and cooler master mf120/140 halo?
Wow looks like a awsome race and cool tech mate. Haha
Thanks
No problem mate you guys are awesome.
Is there any difference performance wise.... Distro Plate vs Reservoir?
is it possible to build: pc with 2x rtx2080ti watercooled, with to radiators (360 and 240) in corsair x570?
Sehr verrückt, es hat mir gefallen!
Hello Sir
if i had a change to buy i definitely choose XD5.
Love from INDIA.
Has anyone ported/overclocked any D5 pumps? I mean, like opening up the inlet or outlet to the actual pump?
Every hear anything about swiftech maelstrom resovoir are they any good they are really nice looking or what about singularity PC res or even distro plate I'm most likely doing a distro plate with either the Lian li PC 011' evolv x or the in win 925
which additives are used by color?
As some one that usually slapped a Aio in my PC's and called it good this is a great eye opener since I'm looking into an overkill cooling loop. When I say Overkill an 3x 360mm rads to cool a 3080 and i7-9700k. Way more than necessary, but I want a unique challenge for my first time, plus it'll only keep an OC cooler. I think I'll look into the EK Quantum Kinetic since it was a top contender for the tests and there will be a lot of resistance.
I switched from a Corsair XD5 D5 pump/res to an EK D5 PWM pump res and my CPU temps dropped by 6c to 8C under load. The Corsair pump is too weak if you have multiple radiators and multiple cooling blocks.
Excelente vídeo saludos desde México!!!
New sprinkler looking great 👍
i dont notice different by Corsair pump and EK ... i dunno why they have different specs
Nice video, 1 request... Can you make 1 video about Best Water Cooling Pump for Mini ITX Pc Cases
Can you make a purpule and white pc with the Corsair cristal 680
Awesome Content! So informative. I was always told that every Xylem/Laing D5 performs exactly alike the other, but this shows that the Design of the Res/Pump Housing actually plays a huge factor, which was awesome to see! I would love to see how EK's Classic D5 and DDC Pump/Res Combo's perform too! Thanks for the awesome content! Proud to be a Patreon Member!
Thank you ♡♡
A useful comparison, thanks. Happy with my choice of EK for my loop
You should`ve put Alphacool D5, 3rd gen for example, as it is the direct competitor to EKWB`s one.
Dont have one
Edit: you may have touched on this but what fittings are you using?
I need help please!!! I have a inwin 303 white case (basic) I’m using a msi meg z590 ace gold, with a ekwb Quantum Velocity CPU Water Block, Intel CPU, Digital RGB, Full Nickel. I don’t currently have a waterblock for my gpu yet… and I have a 250ml true brass bitspower res. But I have simply lost 2x of my D5 pumps. The 250 res is rather large and my monsoon v2 fittings are for 16mm tubing (which I have both fittings, tubing, and bending material) my xspc rad looks to have minor rust which I was told using a cleaner should help clear that up. But now I’m at the point do I keep the 250 gold tops? Or just switch it up (keep the gold fittings) and go with a black/white or black/silver pump res combo? This will be my first custom loop too btw. Finding a waterblock for my msi RTX 2070 ventus hasn’t been easy. The only one I found it seems will only allow their own fittings to be used (bummer) any advice would be great! I also say the amazing distro block made for my inwin 303 but it appears to come with no pump (wouldn’t even know which to get) and I’d have to purchase all new fittings due to it sticking with its own brand. Right now either an ek pump res system might or try to find another D5 pump to replace the 156$ one I lost. ;/
Nice vid!
At 5:10 what colour dye is he using to get the colour. Thanks
I'm looking for quietest for studio on outside case!
very informative
You should make real test with actually a real loop and see if there is any temp variation. That would be the ULTIMATE PC water cooling test
Good idea
nice work
How to do proper size bends for my modification
We have a tutorial on the channel
It would be very interesting if it's just the pump tops changing the hydraulic characteristics. Change pumps between reservoirs to see if there is a difference. Also do a test with 2 pumps in series.
Can I pick up one of those sprinklers at Bunnings?
Do I need to control my pump speed? If yes ... Then how??
Mentioning how high the pumps can push water it's a waste of your breath because once a loop is full and sealed it no longer matters because the force it takes to push the water uphill is countered by the water coming back down hill as long as it's a sealed system
I like your intro Very nice :)
Thanks
Nice video!
Thank you
@@DesignsByIFR welcome, legend!
Thank you.
How about the rumors they produce? Which one wins in questions of rumor?
Dear ifr why are U never using a ddc ?
I've always used DDC pumps and don't understand the hate they get. "noisy" supposedly but suspend them and they're silent.
so sick!
Nice Video. I love this testvideos.
Can you make a Test Videos from the other Components? I mean Radiator, CPU cooler and GPU cooler.
I have a Radiator and CPU cooler from Bytski. The performance is a little bit special 😅. The cooling performance is a little bit Bad. Iam search a alternativ to this 🤷♂️
Thanks
PS: sorry for my bad Englisch iam from Switzerland 😅
Great idea
THAT SPRINKLER THOO
I have Thermaltake PR-22 - D5 Silent Kit ... I love it
it was very good content again
what about noise levels?
I have an EK DDC X-Res and it is very good.
Nice =)
Can u guy's try construct and frosted reservoir and use in a build.
We sure can
@@DesignsByIFR 😁
I miss the Aquacomputer and Watercool D5 Combos. Both Products are build with a real glas piece. And the look and flow of water on real glas is different in my opinion.
What about D5 pump , best pump+reservoir ??
I talked about that
goin for the xd5
love from ur basement
Good to be done..
that intro made me feel like I am in the club, this is great comparison
Haha
i would say the ek one looks pretty solid to me...lets see
Good luck!
you didn't test Singularity Computers d5 pump
I dont have it =(
now do one with the corsair block, what pump can spray the water the greatest distance
Hahahaha
@@DesignsByIFR Got a computer with full hydro X from Corsair6 month ago, got attracted by the image of the company, I am very surprised by the numbers of bugs in their software and by the lack of quality of their products, thanks to do this type of video, you will save the money of some people
I’m going thermaltake before you test.
Which one is actually fairly priced though
I am surprised you didn't include Singularity Computers as they are an Australian company as well.
Dont have one
@@DesignsByIFR Fair enough! Great educational video though. Always good content.
dude u use mostly cosair in most of video may u chose bitspower and ek quantum
This was very helpful. I dont normally watch this channel unless im looking at the various cooling designs. I really appreciate this video and have now subscribed as i am planning a new rig, first time using custom cooling and i want to get it right. Initially i was leaning towards EK or Bitspower but this test has helped solidify and help me understand how it works more. Thank you.
I'm hoping that you might have video tutorials explaining other maybe not thought of utilities i might need to make the tube work more successful, like for e.g never though of a heat gun until i realised there was also hard tubing as well.
On another subject i think on all of the videos i have watched from your channel so far are aboslutely presented really well. The music is unique and you kind of seem to make it more like artwork when showing it to us. ( dont know if thats just me but thanks ^^ )
Thank you very much =)
Its always nice to know you purchased the right pump/res combo, my ek kinetic is a beast, great vid also!
Thank you ♡♡
Though I finish watching the video but have it in the back of my head #EK will win cus they are only concentrated on water 💧 cooling n nothing else but thank u #Corey for this we really needed that to decide on our next build
On this episode of design by IFR we learn the corsair once again needs to focus on fans and what not and stop the water cooling stuff.
What's the difference between a D5 and a DDC?
D5 is able to push more liquid as it has better flow rate, DDC usually has higher head pressure
DDC is usually physically smaller than D5 too. DDC tends to be a little louder than D5. DDC is usually cheaper than D5.
Legend says Corey will reply
Haha you know it
I think the ek pump res will be the best bc it has the coolest box
Is there water block for 1660Ti
Not sure
@@DesignsByIFR then what to do for liquid cooling
Nice
Test different radiators now. Thick vs thin, different brands. See how long a stress test should last for a thick radiator to be more effective.
Good idea
Laughs in distro plate
EK sells for $100 more than the Corsair...figures.
Does faster flow actually create more heat in the loop just curious well best wishes from pakistan
The video states the faster the flow the more efficient it is at removing heat.
@@Safetytrousers but eventually the loop will get hot somepoint without help from radiator as heatsink
EK for the win lets see.
i wish i could join your IFR
If you don't do give aways, would you do matching? If someone is saving up for a gaming rig, they put down $1500 or $2000 and you match it, creating an incredible pc. Seems like a cool concept to me, what do you guys think?
But aren't the D5 bombs all the same?
