Great tones and playing! I have the SV20. My settings are: Channels jumpered, all knobs at noon except for presence and high treble (volume 1) at 9:00. For beautiful edge of breakup cleans, use lower output single coil pickups (a Stratocaster works great) or for humbuckers, roll the volume back. Works for me!
Thanks, man. Absolutely, the clean on the JT20 felt really nice under the fingers. Very round and squishy...and who doesn't enjoy round and squishy?! Gotta say I've never played through a Marshall that really did it for me on the clean sound, but this one was great.
Loving my SV20H but struggling a little getting a good reverb/delay tone from the effects loop, especially after coming from years of using fender deluxe/princetons. I'm assuming you're using digital effects added in your DAW (whatever it is it sounds really great) - what types of pedals would you suggest to get your sound here? I.e., are you using spring/room reverb, any delay etc.?
Thanks! Yes, you're spot on I'm using the stock effects from Cubase 6 Artist Student Edition from 2010. Live, I'm running my verb and delay straight in to the front of the amp, which sounds good as long as you don't go crazy with the levels of either and/or you don't run too much gain on the amp. It's a compromise, but like you I didn't enjoy the effects loop for some reason. I'll have to try it again, but I rarely carry 5 cables with me for guitar on a gig (4 in use and one spare) as it seems like a lot of extra work, especially when I have to bring the PA too. I'm using an NUX Cerberus at the moment, it has the NUX Atlantic Delay and Verb in it. I did a review of the Atlantic before NUX sent me the Cerberus. I highly recommend either unit as they sound good and are very reasonably priced. You'd probably get an Atlantic for 50 quid used. Cheers, Ben.
Thanks for making the video, great playing and tone! Which of these amps has a better bass? And which would be better for Scott Henderson type of tone?
Thank you, that's very kind! Scott, I believe uses a Plexi on occasion and I would say the higher gain and more aggressive tone will get you in that ball park quicker. The SD9 is also very important and backing the bridge tone way off is also a big deal for that sound. He's a killer player and one of my favourites, although I doubt you'd get that from this video! If you have an ears to my last live band video, the 1st solo I take might demonstrate that a bit better.
Haha! Thanks, man! That would be tricky though. I reckon I could play blindfold and I could dial an amp with my fingers taped together, but I couldn't play guitar with the tape on my fingers and I doubt I could even find the amp with a blindfold on...I may be overthinking this...
@@BenFletcherGuitar ha yeah probably doesn’t warrant a follow up video putting that to the test! Liking the content as always, 1 of these will be my next purchase I think. Really cool amps.
I guess it depends on which era you're looking to replicate. In his later career he actually went out with DSL100's, which are pretty affordable amps. Earlier he used 59SLP, so in this case it would be the SV20H. The Still got the Blues album was the JTM45 Reissue amps (I'm getting all this from a quick internet search by the way) so that would be the JT20H. However, he paired the JTM45 with a Marshall Guv'nor pedal which ironically was meant to emulate a JCM800! Ha! So he's making a JTM45 sound like an 80's Marshall, go figure! I'd lean more towards the SV20H if that's the tone you want, higher gain and a little more edge to it.
@@BenFletcherGuitar His blues era. So, all Marshall amps practically ahahha, yeah, I was looking for something between Gary Moore and Bonamassa, SV20H most likely, or even 2525h, but that one is a little darker sounding. Hm, JCM800 is something I didn't even consider.
@@Lordofmrak That's the answer, you just need to buy them all! I'd say maybe go for the JT20. You can create more aggressive gain with a pedal, but tough to achieve the sound of a JTM45 without that style of amp. If you're not going for super high gain, then it's probably a good bet.
@@BenFletcherGuitarBen, I’ve attached some footage from 1982 which showed him using a DS-1 for his lead work, into his Marshall!!! ua-cam.com/video/Khyv5rTpY-c/v-deo.htmlsi=x_I29GL68hWBjgEE
It was a lovely sound. I'm not sure which I would have gone for had both been available when I purchased mine. I'll be sticking with my SV20 though, as it's working for me.
Absolutely useless using slide playing to demo differences between two Marshall circuits. Demo the amps rather than your playing with simple chords, clean, crunchy and higher gain.
Great playing!
Thank you, very kind! I checked your channel, I like the full band performances you've been posting, sounds great.

Your dialing of the JT clean is darn good!
Thanks, man! It was a really nice sound to play on, had a lovely squish to it.
Amazing demo and playing!
Thank you, very kind!
Great playing. Great tones
Thank you, appreciated!
Makes me want to keep mine after seeing / hearing this.
Thanks, mate. You absolutely should, it's a great amp!
Holy crap, the JT might be the one for me. I'm looking for that beautiful clean for jazz.
It's a beautiful amp. Fair play to you, I can't play jazz through any amp! Haha!
Great video Ben. Very nice clean tones from the JT 👍🏻 It would be nice to have a Marshall alternative to Fender style cleans 🤔

Ah you are so good dude I will just listen, bet you would be great on any of the gear I have.
Far too kind, but I assure you it can be an absolute train wreck on gear that doesn't suit me, haha!

Loose the effects, cowboy up and play em dry

It was dry when I played it, the effects were added after...so get off your horse and drink your milk, cowboy!
