My name is Tim. I worked for an iheart Radio station. I’m the one responsible for getting the guitar signed when he visited our radio station 100.3 “The Edge” He was in town doing show. When he signed it he took pics of it & said “I better not see this guitar on eBay tomorrow” I have pics of Zakk signing it in the studio. He was in town doing a Zakk Sabbath Show. His “handler” was a total A-Hole. Mikey was handed back the signed guitar after Zakk left the 100.3 studio. FYI, it’s true that Mikey sent the guy the money in a money order & after a couple of weeks thought he’d been scammed. What a relief when the guitar did arrive.
Would be cool if someday when the museum is open, Trogly could get Zakk to come look around and see the thing, even though he has his own company now I’m sure Zack would still love guitar history especially the kind of troglys museum
That's a common theme; the artist is cool, the handler is a pos. I worked as a studio artist and side man back in the day, but it's a tale as old as time, even with the smaller artists; the circle surrounding them are obnoxious, but most of the artists themselves are really lovely people.
Dude I miss working at the radio so much I met Cory Taylor and mick even got to hold his guitar when they came to Alabama really cool guys I’ve also met a few other artists but they are the stand out
I remember Zack telling the story about how he got it back with a bull’s-eye on it and then figured “might as well keep it, at least if I suck people have something to aim at when they throw tomatoes“
11:36 one of the many reasons people love this channel. He doesn't really care much about original strings, but he realizes these could be significant to some people, especially longer term.
Congrats Austin. Michael, you are so totally gracious to add your ZW 001A to Austin's collection, thank you Sir, now we can all enjoy and learn about this early version of Zakk's signature LP. 👍 😉
I dont know when they stamp the headstock in production, but I guess they decided to use, at least this neck, for this model? Seems like they wouldn't stamp the guitar serial number til it was complete... obviously before paint. I guess it wasn't originally designated? Maybe that's a piece of the 'A' puzzle Sort of a prototypeish? Perhaps 'B' just has one serial number. 😊
I see what you’re saying there, but it looks like it could be an optical illusion hard to really tell. I’ve enlarged it a few times. It looks like a nine and a two could be there nice observation.
@@deanbartone8187 my guess would be that they took a leftover maple neck from a Gibson USA model based on the serial number that is under the finish and just finished it as a custom as an artist proof to get approval. Probably explaining the A
FYI, Zakk Wylde did NOT replace Randy Rhoads in Ozzy Osbourne's solo band. Brad Gillis replaced Randy Rhoads, he toured and recorded a live album "Speak Of The Devil" in November of 1982 before leaving to form Night Ranger and then Jake E. Lee joined Ozzy's band and recorded 2 studio albums 'Bark at The Moon" and "The Ultimate Sin" before leaving to form the band "Badlands" which is the time Zakk was audtioned and won the postition of Guitarist/Lead Guitarist and they recorded "No Rest For The Wicked" album in October of 1988.
Jake didn't leave Ozzy to form Badlands, he got fired by Sharon amidst petty squabbling among other band members (Lee wasn't involved, but Sharon was less than honest about who got credit anyway) over songwriting credits. There was a two year gap between his leaving Ozzy and Badlands getting on the scene. Given the status of being Ozzy's guitarist, I heavily doubt Lee would really quit his band to do other projects.
Very cool, and sn #1! Sweet! Definitely put this in your museum. I hope you open it before I pass on, I’m 69 so get on the stick brother! 😂. Wow, much thanks to Micheal, you are so generous and all of us Troglodytes greatly appreciate your gift to Austin! 👊🙏

I mean, I get that he puts out a metric crap ton of content on a daily basis and the guitars themselves are the focus of his knowledge, but some of these things are kinda on the easier side to check. edit: left out the word "instead" in the first sentence
Any guitar approaching even 9lbs is not for me, but the weight wouldn't bother a viking berserker like Zakk Heavy, maple neck, and EMG is pretty much the antithesis of what most people want in a LP, but damn if Zakk didn't make them sound iconic, and instantly identifiable as HIS sound. I love Zakk's playing and his sound with those LPs. And that's a very cool Zakk model. I love the natural fading into banana cream.

I got the Zakk Wylde Vertigo model because everybody and their Mama has a Bullseye Les Paul. I liked it because it was different, it has a maple neck and fretboard, something you don't usually see on Gibsons.

*Blacklight** didn't show it, which makes sense to me as it was under original finish, so it would be just as invisible, if not more, under blacklight.
Beautiful guitar. Congrats on being able to show it off. Some people hate on Zakk for various reasons. He's done a lot for the industry. Had some personal trials and tribulations but compared to a lot of other famous musicians.... He's a solid dude.
I think the A might be because there was an earlier run. Zakk himself had one of those guitars. If you can go through an archive of Guitarist magazine they had a review. Someone must have a subscription.

Hell of a nice guy. I also saved the strings just as you did Lol. Only thing with mine Zakk signed the front of the guitar. Wrote all over the damn thing now I’m scared to death to play it cause I don’t wanna mess up the autograph. Damn it Zakk. Hahaha. Anyways that was 2007 and it’s been safe in its case since. I WILL find a way to play it without screwing up the signature one day. AWESOME AWESOME GUITAR.
Have you tried evapo-rust for hardware. The stuff works incredibly well and it's safe to handle. And it's reusable over and over. Most big box stores carry it and any auto part stores. Might be worth spending 8$ in a small bottle to try.
I almost bought the Camo Bullseye back in the day. The guitar was super heavy and had a giant neck. I do still enjoy EMG pickups. Should have bought it just to hold on to. But I’m not really a collector.

One idea…since 001 is special, could they have made a few with that number? 001A, 001B, 001C etc, to give to the artist, a Gibson exec, a manager, etc as a commemorative guitar to celebrate the signature model?

Musta been ages ago, Zakk had to get clean years ago after this Blood Clot scare…
@edwarddreier2958 2nd ozzfest it was awesome. Maybe the third, I've been to 11 of them missed the first one. I was bumbed when my friends told me how good it was, oh well there's other metal festivals out there but not as good as the originals Ozzfests thanx for the response brought back some good memories. 🤘 rock on.
Hello from Alaska.
You’re a RATM fan. Ur stock just went up w me! Also a huge Morello fan.
hey Austin, I have the aged version which suprisingly doesn't have the brass truss rod cover... I do prefer the brass
Never realized that before about the aged ones - very cool!
I’m curious to what gauge strings were on it?
I remember when I first saw Zack Wylde ( who is 5 years younger than me ) was in a hair band . Then I saw him years later looking like a biker as he still does today.
Trogly bringing the chops tonight! And Michael - are you utterly mental?? You're supposed to do a 'permanent loan' deal, not just give it to him!!
You missed his buzzsaw epiphone DR500/400MCE
One idea…since 001 is special, could they have made a few with that number? 001A, 001B, 001C etc, to give to the artist, a Gibson exec, a manager, etc as a commemorative guitar to celebrate the signature model?
Pretty sure you're right. My guess that guitar was sent to Zakk.
Wow that is an amazing piece and a great gift lucky trogly
Wow! I don’t ever remember hearing Trogly ripping out some shredding. Great job sir!
Howdy everyone!!
