    I really like these looks into your old paperbacks. You had some really rip-roarin’ titles in the box of westerns. I tried to think up western titles of my own, but was less successful. To wit:
    Frontier Accountant;
    Ambush at Dodge City Bypass;
    The Lone Dentist of Cripple Creek;
    Last Train to Waco - Meal Included;
    The Perspicacious Kid

      Ha! You really need to write the books to go along with those titles.

    Elmer Kelton is my favorite Western writer. I might need to start storing my books in boxes too😆

    I've never read Westerns, but I wanna check out some of them because of your videos. I'm watching Godless on Netflix right now and loving it, a great Western mini series

    I love that we're 14 videos in for this series and you still have more boxes of books. Amazing collection!

    Love all those old sf and the covers. Childhood ‘s End by Clarke is amazing! Such a great story.

    Another really enjoyable video. I could watch you pull old sci-fi books and show the covers all day. It makes me nostalgic for all those paperbacks I went through back when. The Moon is a Harsh Mistress was a terrific book, as were Childhood's End, The Time Machine, and 2001 A Space Odyssey. It was fun to see a Fred Saberhagen sci-fi. I know him mostly from his Book of Swords series, which I enjoyed, but not as much from his sci-fi.

      I’m glad you like old science fiction! You will be getting more of that with this series!

    New Maps of Hell. The title maybe a reference to Dante Alighieri and The Divine Comedy, where Dante sets out the levels of Hell.
    The Caves of Androzani is one of the best Dr Who stories scripted by Robert Holmes.
    I am enjoying seeing your immense science fiction collection. Unfortunately many great authors are no longer in print and can't be found online or in book stores.
    Covers for modern science fiction books aren't as interesting and as well illustrated as those from the past.

    I remember reading "The Languages of Pao" by Jack Vance back in the 60s. Made an impression on me. Bought it in a Rexall drug store. It was in an Ace double, don't remember the other novel. I remember reading "Armageddon 2419 A.D." and "Anton York, Immortal" at summer camp in Vermont back in the mid-60s. I was disgusted how featherweight Anton York was even as an 11-year-old. These latter two were leant to me by another camper.

    Judging by Roger’s reaction at around 3:05 he either isn’t a fan of Kent Conwell’s The Bloody Texans or is dying to get his hands on your copy! - However, the subsequent muffled growls audible around said time hint at the nefarious actions of another member of the manor, of the four legged variety…🐾

    I just realized that nearly all westerns do not take place until after revolvers and repeating rifles became common. The settlement of the west started well before that. A western without revolvers would be kind of boring

    • @michaelk.vaughan8617
      @michaelk.vaughan8617  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah, for some reason westerns always seem to take place between 1865-1890

    Those Western covers..... oh boy...Can i ask? There are only a few L Lamour Western books in the collection... i thought he was huge... does it mean you dont like his stuff as much, or that there is a box of only his stuff?... I dont see that many Westerns over here in the UK. Never even heard of Brand... Zane and Louis sure...i thought they were the most popular... Enjoyed your vid again. I often freeze it to see what amazon has to say about these books.

    Howard and Estleman really shouldn't be in that box you know. Is winning a Spur award at all meaningful ? ie. can the book and author be regarded as good ?

    • @michaelk.vaughan8617
      @michaelk.vaughan8617  2 роки тому

      I guess it’s meaningful if you write Westerns. They are usually good ones.
