The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is the premier late night talk show on CBS, airing at 11:35pm EST, streaming online via CBS All Access, and delivered to the International Space Station on a USB drive taped to a weather balloon. I gotta say, I was impressed with their interview and how Colbert handled them. I wasn't planning on seeing the movie but this made me decide to. They were pretty funny, I hope they stay in the biz

No one's saying that "proper" grammar is bad, but language (even written language) evolves with use. When I say "does it really matter?", I'm saying that it's understandable phonetically, no meaning is lost, and other things are important.
You're very right that people draw conclusions about you based on your language, but context is just as important.
Using the common standard for "proper" grammar at all times is limiting and distances you from other people. That's why academia and professional environments rely on "proper grammar" to uphold their relationships.
However, doing the same thing in texts, personal conversation, and in less formal environments (like say, youtube comments) makes it harder for people to relate to you (and sometimes, even understand you).
An inability to adapt to social environments doesn't make you smarter than everyone else, it just isolates you and demonstrates a lack of fluency.
Also lmao at the "back to school" comment, like damn! you got me! I am absolutely shook by the condescension! I get that your 6th grade lit teacher gave you more stickers than everyone else and it made you feel special, but calm down, we're all adults now.
