The water was a bit of rough. I was going to turn around to reach the east end of the lake to takeoff. Phil wanted me to taxi to the west end of the lake instead, which meant taking off in a very strong tail wind. I didn't quite understand it but trusted his judgment and started to step taxi to the west end. At first, the taxi was bumpy. But the closer we got to the west end, the less bumpy the ride was. Suddenly I realized the west tip of the lake was quite smooth, protected from the gusty wind by the mountainous terrain around it. It was indeed a way better spot to take off!
