scud run from Mission to Maple Ridge 2024-08-26
Переглядів 100День тому
After Mission, I crossed the Fraser River to the south side, over Glen Valley. One thing I feared the most is the power line across the Fraser River at the tip of Crescent Island. I didn't want to be over the river around that point no matter how high I was. Passing Glen Valley, I flew back to the north of Fraser river, climbed up to 1600 feet over the check point at Albion, made contact with P...

Called Kamloops FIC weather brief, was told the route from Chilliwack to Pitt Meadow was OK for VFR. There was no PIREP. Called ATIS, all airports along the route were above minimum VFR, with Langley at 3 miles, Pitt Meadows at 5 miles. Didn't look bad at Chilliwack airport as well. I decided to fly back. Comparing to other options, this seemed to be the easiest, may not be the safest though. O...

Back from scenic flight over Harrison Lake, I flew my friend Jason to Chilliwack airport.
Harrison lake water landing 2024-08-26

Took my good old buddy Jason for a scenic flight. Jason was only in town for a few days, so we can't be too picky about the weather. It's his first time in Lake amphibian, and his first time to land on water in a flying boat!

Getting into heavy rain with bare minimum VFR visibility. Wouldn't do it under normal circumstance.
Racing at the Sproat Lake to see Martin Mars water bombers 2024-08-05

Step taxi towards the Martin Mars water bombers, so many boat waves to overcome, it was a nerve-wracking bumpy ride!

Visiting the Martin Mars water bombers. My first landing was not good. Too many boats racing around the huge flying boat, too much boat wave interference. Hard to tell the wind direction and wave direction. My landing speed was also too high. After a few bounces, I've had enough so I added full throttle jumped out of water. Picked a quieter part of the lake and landed there with not much excite...

Visiting the Martin Mars water bombers at Sproat Lake. Quite a few motor boats racing around the huge Hawaii Mars, making big waves everywhere. Our first landing nearby was bouncy, so picked another spot further away, then step taxi towards the water bomber. The water was so rough, it was quite a ride!!

hands off flying when the air is smooth 2024-03-30
If I knew I'd get back off, I'd absolutely land at the first big lake.
Hi Yu is the Lake you fly a true 4 passenger or like a piper 3 and 3/4 fuel load
Lake has 1000 lb useful load, minus 40 G fuel, that is about 300 lb, so 700 lb for passengers and luggage. 150 lb per passenger, we still can take 100 lb luggage. So, yes, it is a true 4 passenger plane. However this is only true when taking off from land. On the water, 3 passenger is more likely due to more friction caused by water.
Be careful out there.
first
Yes! Jason's first landing at an airport in a flying boat.
Wow! That would have been a little sketchy
Yes, it may look like so. It is a class C airport, ATIS says it's 5 miles visibility. I went in perfectly legal. I doubted it's 5 miles. More like 2 to 3 miles to me, with such heavy rain. My plane is definitely not made to fly in heavy rains.
Amazing! Hey are you on instagram?
are they trying to take off?
Ha-ha, exactly the opposite! The aim here is to go fast and not to take off.
I don't understand what this is, an airplane? a hydrofoil? boat?
all of them! a plane when she is in the air, a hydrofoil and boat when she is on the water, depending on the speed she goes.
Looked like a chiropractic adjustment. 😅
very well said! Definitely had some physical and mental effects on me, hopefully it is as therapeutic..
Great Coverage
Great video enjoyed
Absolutely beautiful!
What aircraft is this, it looks wonderful!
Lake Buccaneer sea plane.
Assuming that’s a student pilot with a CFI? Is it normal to learn or practice steep turns that low (below 1500’) and in tight spaces? Is that a seaplane thing?
Thanks for you concern :-), I may behave like a student pilot, but no, I'm not a student pilot, and my pilot buddy Phil is not a CFI. It is definitely a seaplane thing! Don't do it in a cessna.
nice Vid and so fortunate you get to fly with a expert on the Lake! looks awesome
Hey how was the fishing?
Didn't bring the fishing gear with us. There were some campers with tent, kayak, and fishing gears, so I assume there's something there worthy in the water.
Which model Lake is this one? LA-400?
Taxiing with an oar... love it 😀
Paddle, not oar, very different items 😂
@@lowellfunk8974 They're both just spoons with delusions of grandeur 😉
Love those Lake aircraft... proper flying boats 🙂
Great stuff and great instruction. I'm glad you guys are wearing life vests.
I also noticed you left the flaps in takeoff position until almost the end of the the video. I was curious about that. Very nice video. It's almost like being there.
Thanks for the nice words! Yes, that was my co-pilot Phil lowered the flaps right before the takeoff. Lake amphibian requires the flaps to be lowered for take off.
That water is glass smooth. And, you have the life. I'm very happy for you.
Is this plane meant for this or was it an accident cuz he made it look like he could do this in his sleep😂😮
Made it look easy 👌🏼
Please post your locations. Some of us like to "fly" over the areas ourselves with Google Earth..... Your previous video identifies Horne Lake. What river is this?
I went to your homepage.... I see Pitt River. I think I answered my own question.
Well said, that went well. Healthy and Friendly Greetings from the Netherlands! R. Rob
Alaska??
Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada
I'm an ATP with around 5000 hrs. I have always wanted to add a seaplane rating. It's just cool.
Nice landing! Enjoyed the view!
Very nice ! Thank you for the ride … and for making me jealous because I’m not flying in such gorgeous nature !!
Nice video! Can you tell us about your camera mount? I like that you can remotely control the pan. I would like to try something like that on my Decathlon.
It's insta360 camera (with two fish eye lens) , nothing to do with mount. Pan is an effect of video editing.
nice landing!
Good job. I’ve got a couple of hours in a Lake and it was lots of fun.
They have a distinctive sound. I live about 1/4 west of 89AK and see a few of these fly over. We have a great view for watching civil and military aircraft. I can tell summer is coming because a couple DHC-2s with floats flew over today. There is a lake that is a few miles north of us that has a lot of plane traffic and it’s growing. There are a few airstrips connected to the lake.
Post more of these…please.
Perfect angle of attack kept all the way to the end of the landing, well done. Student pilots of tail dragger or tri-gear aircraft take note!
Wow
Gotta love a Lake aircraft!
Yes I love the view
this is the only way to fly!
Nice smooth landing and take off! Beautiful.
very cool, you've earned a new sub!
The sound transmission between violent rushing wind and coarse water, to nothing but gentle and serene water splashing accompanied by an idling engine is so strangely fast. Like, one second you're flying, the next you're peacefully bobbing on the lake.
Está muy bonito todo, qué chilo saber pilotar aviones
Very cool!!! 😍
a Lake Amphib!
nice try.. you have auto pilot ..haha
fully autonomous, self-flying.. :-)
awesome lucky for some :( not been airborne for 2 month
Absolutely beautiful, you are living the dream!
Landed thru the clouds? Are you sure?
100 percent! :-)
Happy Thanksgiving 🍗
Thanks Chris, Happy Thanksgiving too!
That was a visually stunning approach!
Aero commander?
Nope. Look at 1:30. See the shadow of the prop in front of the nose? I think it's a Lake amphibian with a pusher powerplant above the wing. This plane is a mid-wing. The Commanders is a high wing. Check here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Aircraft
Look closely at the fuselage and you can just make out a flying boat hull. Trailing link main gear definitely suggests Lake Renegade or Buccaneer
@@mothmagic1 I didn't know the trailing link mains were a mark of amphibs. Good to know. Thanks!
