I have had a love for all animals my whole life. Dogs of all breeds are at the top of my list. At this very moment I have a 9 month old Dougue De Bordeaux laying at my feet. Jeffrey, I certainly agree that as far as science and technology has come it seems they could break or fix that code. Ruthie is kind, gentle, obedient and a very fast learner, she has not nary a mean bone in her body. Best of luck to you and the next breed you choose.
What I find cool is how genetically diverse dogs are, like. they bred bear-hunting dogs to look like bears (massive, heavy, fluffy) and deer-hunting dogs to look like deer (slender, leggy, fine-boned) and were able to do it successfully
What's really crazy is when you get into the interplay of human driven breeding, working purpose, and coincidental benefits from "natural" pressures. New Finland are one of the best examples. The video doesn't mention it, but they have among the softest pallets, perfect for lifeguard retrieval, they can fully grab a limb withing doing any damage. Yet you can't understand this adaptation as just breeding for lifeguards because ultimately people would tolerate scratches for having their life saved and breeding would push for size, strength, and swimming capacity. You have to account for their fishing role and the harms condtant rope pulling would do to harder pallets pushing the selection factors toward dogs with less mouth sours from a softer pallet. Then it makes perfect sense. Breeds become this meshed history of purpose which correlates with their human owners relationship to their environment. You can even see the difference modernly as you drive through rough neighbors in my city its 3/4 pitbull mix, hit the suburbs and its 4/5 doodles. They are walking history books.
They are gentle giants been around for centuries in Ireland since 800 ad from something I read ( I’m of Irish descent ) have a photo of my mum with one she’s 5 foot exactly and the dog towers over her in height !
I hate that people judge dogs saying they are mean. They aren't mean, usually the dogs with that reputation arre the most loyal and protective. People also don't always know there past and what they have been through. A dog just needs the person who will love them.
Seeing thesr dogs , , bring tears in my eyes , please all you around the world , , take good care of them , , they are loyal beyond any human comprehension , , if anyone doesnt have the love and patience to take care of them , , please dont get one , , , because like us human they need love and affection
I have had 7 irish wolfhounds. At one time I even had 3 together. They are perfect household companions being extremely active outside and doggy rugs inside. There is no downside to this breed except their short longevity.
i remember i had the life scared out of me on my mail route when one of my customers Great Dane jumped the fence as i was working. thankfully he turned out to be nice and i walked back to the house but damn seeing that much dog leap into the air was terrifying.
Hillshire...I had the same scare...different breed. I drove my mail truck up a drive way and a Cane Corso decided to put his front legs in my window on my lap. I have never been so still in my life. Then all the sudden he licked my face. I was hoping he was playing and not cleaning his dinner. lol
Saint Bernard's are my choice. Huge gentle giants and drool a lot, but they are just so cute and easy to care for as a dog that big that there's just no contest.
Not all Saint Bernards are droolers; it is my understanding that the short-haired version of the Saint does not drool. I have had both long- and short-haired, and in my experience the short-haired did not drool at all. Though the one that I have now has long hair, he is not a big drooler either. Doesn't matter, they are the very best! You are right about that❤❤
Had a friend that worked for the actor Brad Pitt, years ago. She was house sitting for him when he was away filming the movie MEET JOE BLACK in Rhode Island and took us up to the house one day, just to hang on on the property by the pool. Anyway,as we got out of the car, FIVE Irish Wolf Hounds came running towards us. It was terrifying-they were massive dogs. Our friend instructed us how to behave around them and once they established we were not intruders, they were fine. Friendly even. But man, talk about scary-imagine having five of those beasts running up to you and snarling/barking/growling.
We have a 3 month old dog, Cooper, who is English Mastiff, Great Dane, and Great Pyrenees (which I'm surprised didn't make the list). He is the cutest and sweetest pup. He gets along well with our Shiba Inu and kitty. His parents are massive, with the Great Pyrenees being slightly larger
I have seen two Irish wolfhounds, male and female. There was a breeder in my town. The only only one in the country by the way. He walked them both at the same time. I am 1.81 cm , however when i stood near them, their backbone was at the level of my diaphragm. Insanely tall dogs
I don’t think it should come as a big surprise that the Irish wolfhound is going to be either number one or close to it ! It’s an ancient breed that has existed in Ireland since 800 ad so over a millennium and longer !! Gentle giants
Not every dog is everything. You may find outliers but you should never base the rule on the outlier. To disregard inherent predisposition is doing a disservice to yourself as an owner and to the dog. You could end up forcing a round peg into a square hole and while you may be able to make it fit that doesn't mean it's comfortable.
A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself.”i love all types of dog breeds bigger or smallest. All dogs are my friends.and awesome content 4 ever green.keep doing hard work, you will get the success
@@tracyvanloo848 i don't tell cats are not good but dogs are best.we can play with them a lot.they can feel our fellings.and from years to years dogs are our best friend
St. Bernard surely is my choice as I'm acquainted since my childhood with the breed's real story of how they help pilgrims in distress; today its live picture was a real treat to my eyes and heart, and wish I'd see them plying in front my eyes!!
having a house (even if it’s small) and a backyard is literally my life goal because I want an irish wolfhound 😭😭 I dont want kids or anything, I can even sell the house after the dog passes. I just wanna have one in the future !!
@@marjolainearias781 be careful about the breeder and really research before you take one on, they are notoriously over bred due to nearly dying out in the 1800's
I had a St Bernard/German Shepard mix. He was huge! His coloration was that of the Shepard and he had a dry mouth. Sammy thought he was a lap cat. Even the smallest kitten was totally safe with him. When he was hit by a car in front of our house, he suffred a broken leg, and the woman driving the car tried to sue us for the damage to her vehicle. She didn't win! Sam liked to hunt sandsharks on he beach by our house. He was the best dog I ever had.
I own a Great Dane who’s on the smaller side (he was the runt and is only about 140lbs) and he’s just the sweetest. Thinks he’s a lap dog and always wants to cuddle up!
My brother and his wife have 3 Old English Mastiffs the biggest one is called Claude and hes an absolute giant. We dont know exactly what he weighs but I'd say hes easy 19 stone. Hes the most friendly dog I've ever met.
I have a French Mastiff, Jemma. She is huge, the last time the vet weighed her, she was at 130lbs. My girl acts tough, but is a mashmellow. She's a great guard dog. When we take her to the dog park she loves playing with other dogs. At home however, don't let a dog or human at our front door. She likes kids & loves teenagers. We're planning to adopt another French Mastiff by the end of the year. I wouldn't trade her for 10 million dollars.
Grew up with wolfhounds, which ranged from circa 65 to 95kg, 140 to 210 pounds. One was nice enough to dislocate a finger after a leash mishap and another jumped on a speeding Porsche's roof as it braked underneath him. That one that did the dislocation got attacked by German Shepherd, he was so docile he thought the other dog was playing with him but as soon as he realised he was under attack, he instinctively went for the neck and the dog was lucky to be dragged away by its owner.
My neighbours had a female, beautiful, wonderful newfoundland. I totally loved her. I am petite and do not weigh much. Her name was Dakata. She and I would hug over the fence, she was so very sweet and gentle, loved attention. Her owner said she was a handful do to her size and weight. She said taking her to her vet appointments was very difficult. She has since passed away, but I have found memories of my favourite dog Dakota.
We had a mix of great Münsterländer, a german hunting breed, and Saint Bernard. Our beloved crazy Daisy was the kindest and sweetest dog ever. She was funny and adorable and her love was unconditional 💝💝💝 Sadly she passed away in August last year cause of cancer 😭😭😭
I had a massive Rottweiler-Pitbull mix and he was fiercely protective of people he loved and so gentle with kids and babies. I could leave my niece outside (Not long) alone with him and if he saw someone he didn't know coming near my niece, he'd growl, show his teeth, and stand in front of her ready to attack.
My family and I have an English mastiff, our neighbors sometimes goes outside and sees him barking at them, so they put cardboard in front of the fence between them and us. Most people in the neighborhood find it intimidating but he's just wanting to play. If anyone is wondering what exact breed the dog is at the end of the video, that's a Chinese Tibetan mastiff. Hope this helps!
I love how the great pyrenees a dog that on average is just as heavy and taller than a St bernard or caucasian shepherd, is not on this list. A dog that is literally bred to fight wolves and make mince meat of coyotes, did not make this list.
I did not know this. Recently adopted a mixed breed that ended up being almost all Great Pyrenees with a hint of Blood Hound.😅 my mom wanted a small dog 😂😂
really enjoyed this! I love all animals. I have a little Maltese/poodle, she is turning 10yrs. soon, and is extremely smart smartest dog . She can get scrappy when challenged.
Why is no one talking about Caucasian Shepherds? My dad has one, he's only 8 months old and HES HUGE! But he's adorable. If you want to get one and you've never owned a dog before DONT
I saw a video of a full grown one pull a guy right off his feet and drag him across the street like he was a little toy.. For sure he has no business owning that type of dog
Where I live there is a house that owned a wolfhound, they are MASSIVE. Every time we got near there we all shut up because we were scared that "the werewolf" would jump the fence if we were too loud. (Btw the werewolf was a nickname but I also found out that it was the offical name of the breed in my country.)
I had an Irish Wolf hound. - 32 inches at the shoulder and his name was Titan. This dog loved to play. He lived to be 14 years old. I had to put him down due to hip problems. Too many kids tried to ride him.
You forgot about the Great Parranese. Those are very tall and strong. Mine weights 140pds n close to 6 feet on her back legs. My St Bernard is 170+ also same size. Love them soooo much
While discussing large breed dogs, in WWII, the Bouvier De Flanders was one of the largest and most fierce dogs. So much so that Hitler put a bounty on them and the breed was nearly lost. Also, in the large dog breeds, there are the Italian Maremma’s. I personally have two of them. The largest is 165.35 pounds or 75kg and stands at 39 inches at the shoulder, the smaller one is 149.91 pounds or 68kg. They are wonderful companions, but need to be socialized when very young or the can be one of the most fierce guard dogs in the world. They were originally bred to kill wolves that attacked the sheep herds. Today, they are still used to protect sheep, cattle and various other animals, even Chicken farms. The most famous of the breed, saved the Fairy Penguins off the coast of Melbourne Australia from extinction by predation from foxes. Ever see the movie “oddball”? That is a Maremma. Thank you for producing the video, but I think you could be more diverse than just Mastiffs and Great Danes.
My Great Pyr puppy is 8 months and already over 100 pounds. They don't stop growing till 2 and a half years. Mine will probably be 140 to 160. Their bite force measures 700 psi which is top 5 of the dog world. They are real gentle w loved ones.....especially small children. They will step up and fight quick to protect said loved ones though. They will intimidate first and if that don't work they fight
We had the privilege of owning an Irish Wolfhound, William the Great. You know a dog is big when he carries a basketball in his mouth. Such a gentle breed of dog.
@@sully6538 Unfortunately they don't live that long. Willie died of a type of bone/joint cancer and got to the point where he couldn't get up. It was a sad day when we had to put him down.
One of my best friends had an English Mastiff named Maximus when we were in middle school (about eight years ago) and he was not one to mess with. He was very friendly so he liked to play a lot and would jump all over you if you didn’t want to lmao
I’m getting an Irish wolfhound mixed with a poodle as an autism service dog for my son , I was in the room with 6 fully sized dogs at the training course and you wouldn’t know they were in the room , when they got up to walk around and was showing them off to everyone I couldn’t believe the height of them , I’m 6,1 tall and on average there backs were up to my hips , so friendly and good natured, the reason as they mix them with poodles is a pl the coat doesn’t carry any allergy’s and don’t shed so they said , it’s an charity that runs in ireland my canine companion, we were very lucky for my sons name to be picked out , it was our 5th year trying they only have 50 pups a year from several breeders that just do this for autism services dogs , you want to see what training you have to do , but you get back in thousands what you put in , I can’t wait for the pup to come to our house it’s going to change our life’s and most importantly my 10 year old son .
My 7months old Irish wolfhound/lab mix is huge already he thinks he’s a lapdog like my shorkie he turns around to sit on my lap it’s hilarious 🤣 I can’t see around or over him when he does it!😂Hes huge but the sweetest dog I’ve ever had! I didn’t kno they have a shorter life😭💔He’s a true companion so it will break my soul when he passes😢😔
I adore my gentle giant English Mastiffs! My Dalmatians run them. Lol My baby boy English Mastiff (Kahuna) weighs 220 now but the vet said he is on track to be around 245/250 when he finishes growing. He had a set back and lost some weight when his best friend, my Dalmatian (Loki) died a few months ago. He wouldn't eat and he lost about 15 pounds but he is back on track.

They are gentle giants been around for centuries in Ireland since 800 ad from something I read ( I’m of Irish descent ) have a photo of my mum with one she’s 5 foot exactly and the dog towers over her in height !

I love my son! He’s 157lbs rott/pit. The sweetest animal ever!
Lol that’s nice
Hi
I hate that people judge dogs saying they are mean. They aren't mean, usually the dogs with that reputation arre the most loyal and protective. People also don't always know there past and what they have been through. A dog just needs the person who will love them.
@SAUMYA SAXENA PERIDOT
Its literally internet slang
@SAUMYA SAXENA kind of like saying straight facts
AMEN TO THAT
No dogs are bad, if they don't behave well it means they have bad owners
I think I would have peed myself a little....
I have a great dane
I remember my wife worked for the post office and always complained about dogs
I have a great dane, his back is taller than the kitchen table and he weighs 165lbs
Hillshire...I had the same scare...different breed. I drove my mail truck up a drive way and a Cane Corso decided to put his front legs in my window on my lap. I have never been so still in my life. Then all the sudden he licked my face. I was hoping he was playing and not cleaning his dinner. lol
The dog was like can you please get this human of my back on the 3rd one😂😂😂
I would say I own a Newfoundland but truth is she owns me. She is the most gentle and loving baby ever and she is completely in love with kids

I REALLY want a Saint Bernard. They're so cute and their kisses like (and probably feel) amazing.
I love all dogs!

True.
Some dogs such as Anatolian shepherds are genetically hardwired to be unfriendly to other animals and people and very loyal to humans.

Irish wolfhound is the dog I’ve wanted for YEARS!!! Only if I had a house big enough for it. For now, I’ll have to stick to my golden retriever😊
having a house (even if it’s small) and a backyard is literally my life goal because I want an irish wolfhound 😭😭 I dont want kids or anything, I can even sell the house after the dog passes. I just wanna have one in the future !!

How about 20 million?

I love how the great pyrenees a dog that on average is just as heavy and taller than a St bernard or caucasian shepherd, is not on this list. A dog that is literally bred to fight wolves and make mince meat of coyotes, did not make this list.

Absolutely wonderful. Many people with autism bond with animals in a way which helps them greatly.
