Perhaps within the (American) comic book medium? Because I can think of several examples of longer series within comic strips, manga, Franco-Belgian comics etc.
For me, the whole "moon is intact" bit has the same explanation that appears in Sonic X: Eggman simply reconstructed it using camouflage technology to simulate what it was before, as a way to pay for his crimes or something like that. Considering Sonic x also had the concept of two worlds that was later confirmed to be cannon in the games universe, I wouldn't be surprised if this part would be brought up to the games universe.

Also, games like Adventure 1 e 2, 06, and Unleashed have more realistic places (at leats most of them), compared to the more fictional places from Heroes, Rivals, Riders and Forces (in fact, Forces's world and levels were made with the intent of feeling like an alien world, like texts of weird languages in buildings and other stuff (this kind of detail the haters won't mention when they go mock the Boost games)). And let's not forget that both Unleashed and Forces shows fully modeled worlds as hub menus, and both planets look completely different from each other. They may never directly confirmed this, but they also never denied this, and considering all these details, it is more likely that the 2 two worlds theory is canon.

For instance, Chaos was meant to be a groundbreaking character based on folklore that couldn't have been done on previous hardware while The Deadly Six are six different characters with generic character designs and a single character trait.
I think the reason the moon turned around unnaturally was due to the impact from the ARK. So even though it's not normal for the moon to turn around, I think their excuse for why the moon isn't partially destroyed looking anymore makes sense in a way.
Only fanboys with a distinct lack of good taste would defend Sonic as anything but laughable. Still an entertaining series of failures tho. Wouldn't have it any other way.

So many cool thoughts ran through my head of what they were gonna pull off... But... It happened and wasnt as great as I had hoped. Still liked it for what it was trying to do though...
