The duct tape hack is AMAZING! I had a set of chairs I was dreading refinishing because of the spindles. This trick worked so well and it was quicker than using an electrical sander! Thank you so much!
Wish I had known some of your terrific tips years ago! It would have saved a lot of headaches. Such a great video!! You are aces, Denise. Many, many thanks to you for all you share and for making the world a lovelier place to live.
Thanks for your tips! Im starting my first ever diy furniture and its a dining table set with 14 spindled legs. I think I did not know what I was getting into when I started it....
I landed here on a search on how to deal with wooden drawer pulls - I'm sanding an old desk down but don't want to replace the original round drawer pulls - but they are incredibly hard to sand off the old crud. Maybe the dremel trick would work I can secure it in a vice with the screw and work around it....hopefully. Anyway, your content is great also especially appreciate the duct tape hack!
I loved the tactical tips in this video! And the (almost?) finished look is so beautiful and worth the effort. I was just confused when you started using the paint. Did you wipe that back after you applied it? The whole video I was thinking, “this is my favorite video ever! It’s so nerdy.” 😂 but then it seemed like it ended abruptly with the paint wash and idk what the actual finish looked like. Thank you for the tips though!! 👏
Thank you for this video, it’s super helpful! I’ve recently got into upcycling and my next piece has spindles- so I’ll be putting some of your tips into action soon
I wish you posted this a month earlier. Lol I just finished a table like yours. Fortunately most of the finish was off but all your ideas are brilliant. Could of been so useful. The duct tape idea is incredible! Thank you so much for this awesome video.
Lucky you that most of the finish was off 😆... buy joking aside, these tables are gorgeous and such a pleasure to work on, right?! :) Glad you enjoyed the video Sue! XOXO
Can’t wait to see the finished product! This tip came just in time for me - working on a Jacobean hutch with two front spindle legs - can’t wait to give it a try. Your piece was crazy with the spindle AND fluted legs - beautiful though😍 🙏
@@SalvagedInspirations it Actually works Super Super Super Easy as well time effective...I wish I could just send a picture to you but Ive never done that on here... But thanks
Thank you soooo much for these valuable tips!! As someone who can’t really justify spending over $500 on a SurfPrep sander (although I’d love one), I find your video to be so incredibly helpful. Life changing, given the amount of time I’ve spent on past pieces. (The duck tape method is genius and I’ve got all the others in my Amazon cart. Can’t wait to try each one). Question, which one of these options above would you use on rounded/bun style furniture feet? Thanks again. I’m a new subscriber and ca f wait to see what else I’m able to learn from you. (Loooove your voice too!! It’s so soothing. Lol)
If you bought them all - try them ALL on the bun feet! What I prefer might not be what you prefer and a lot depends on the finish you're working with as well. If you have some time, I'd LOVE to hear which one works best for you. :) And thanks for the kindness on the voice Kristen! XOXO
Thanks! And I didn’t (the paint I used has a primer in it) but if you were worried about bleedthrough shellac or a clear stain blocking primer is a great idea!
Curious when you would use a stripper followed by one-time finishing sand, Vs sanding coarse grit, then finer grit? I’ve only ever use a stripper and then gave a finishing sand
what were you doing with the water added to the paint? and did you apply it all over the piece? thank you. love all the tips you shared with us as well.
I created a paint wash using 50% paint and 50% water - then applied it to the sanded raw wood on the table. Then wiped it off with a shop towel. It's a paint wash effect giving the wood a nice light 'stain' but you can still see all the beautiful grain through it. I have a more detailed video on whitewashing when I transformed this dining table here ua-cam.com/video/IkY7pUiEcX8/v-deo.html :)
I have an old wood toy box my boss is having me refinish, going from dark stain to white wash, my biggest issues is corners and edges where two boards meet, I can't get rid of the dark lines.
Great information, but sheesh it was a slog to get through with all the infomercials throughout. Just saying you have affiliate links to the products you used in one line at the end would be so much less annoying and make me so much more likely to use them.
@@izadaniel8520 I'm referring to the blue sheet sander used on the table top in the beginning. Those sheet sanders need to be used slowly, directly forwards or backwards only. Not in the vaguely circular motion used. That's just guaranteeing a uneven Sanding and shows me that this lady is too new to refinishing furniture to be making videos on the subject. Know your tools, it's important.
@@TrinaBurmeisterjust think of it like this, she’s learning every day like all of us. I’m glad you added this comment for both of our benefit. I’m learning about sanding my deck, there are years of solid stain and some cracking so I’m going to use a flap disc and angle grinder, but the videos I watched did indicate to continuously move in one direction while applying in an even circular motion, or you would get really visible circles in the wood.
Fastest way is to sand blast… does cost $$$$ for a good kit tho… saving up for a sand blaster but until then I’m using just about every type of power sand I can to avoid scraping🥹😂

The duct tape is a game changer. I appreciate your sharing of this tip.
Brilliant trick with the duck tape! I was folding it and that wastes so much paper! Thank you!

Thanks for the video! How did you sand in all the crevices? Did I miss it in the video? Lots of good info!
Omgoodness the tape idea is brilliant! How many pieces of sandpaper have I wasted because I didn't use tape the strengthen it!
Me tooo! This works amazing... you're going to love it! :)
This was a great video. Thanks for information about the different tools available. I am definitely going to try several of these sanding items.

I wanted tricks for the details sanding. Im stripping our Victorian stairway spindles.
That was nice ma'am I'm using your techniques on an antique chair I'm restoring...

Great to see more women getting their hands dirty and doing a great job! Really enjoyed the video and picked up some good tips, thanks!
Thanks Adam!
Wowwwww... Looked so good after!
The issue with your sanding is going cross grain on the spindles. This will leave scratches that are visible especially on nice stained furniture.
The other issue is she painted the piece after all the sanding!
Nice job. Do you think varnish or paint stripper would have been too aggressive for the veneer top?

Where did you get the foam cushion attachment for your bosch orbital sander? :)
Amazon ... I believe I included a link in the show more description box :)
Help. How do I access the entire page for this video? I need the links n I don’t know what I’m doing 😮 lol. Thank u.
Thank you for this. Is there a reason you didn't use the bristle disc on the detail/grooved part of the legs?
I have a question about a dresser. I would like to show you if you have somewhere I can send you a picture of it.
Trucos fantásticos como siempre, gracias
¡Muchas gracias! ¡Me alegro de que los encuentres útiles!
Just curious, why wouldn't you just use the 3M sanding disc on all non flat surfaces?
I bought the 3m disc's but unfortunately they are not working well for me at all. Do you apply stripper first?
That table looks absolutely gorgeous. You did a fantastic job. Well done to you. 😉
Thanks so much!
Try the 3M Prograde ultra flexible sanding sheets. Total game changer.
The bristle disc you linked states it is for use on automotive aluminum and metal?
Thank you for that!
You bet! :)
How do you know when you can just sand something or when you have to strip it first??
I use stripper when the topcoat or paint is thick or has been applied in layers. If it's a think factory finish or stain, I will sand it off. :)
Great tips!
Thanks Julie!
I noticed the 3M pads laying in the table. Can you send me the link to that?
how about the sanding mop..?
I have an old wood toy box my boss is having me refinish, going from dark stain to white wash, my biggest issues is corners and edges where two boards meet, I can't get rid of the dark lines.
Are you able to use a scraper to scrape off the old finish?
Very useful 👌 👍!!
Glad it was helpful Lily! And thanks for supporting my channel.. it means a lot! Hugs XOXO
i still have a pain in my rear from sanding those killing details...ouch lol
🤣... I get it!
So, no sanding in the deep grooves?
Why with the after uncovering such beautiful natural wood.
I never cease to be amazed at the people on here who proclaim themselves to be experts. Thank goodness that piece she ruined wasn't valuable.

Needs a second coat of paint, also if your going to paint it a solid color no need to sand it that much
You dont!! Just buy a soda blaster.
I would love to try a soda blaster!
Poor Canadians……
...it looks worse...
seems a shame to put paint on this nice timber
the color is ugly. The previous one was nicer
Ma'am you aren't using your sander correctly.
Why?
