Hi Dave, I love watching your UA-cam videos. I'm a 52 yr old New England Boy from Boston and have been living in Tampa for years. I came down in 96, and that one off the things my wife and I couldn't find at the grocery store, along with B&M baked beans. Some stores have it.
Get it again, and try boiling the can for 20 to 30 min. Let's cool a few minutes, then slice it. Or you open the can take it out of the cold and slice it,
And grill it with some butter in a pan and get beans and let the bread soak up the juice. That's how we cooked it camping and growing up and at the house. Still love it.

As a kid growing up in MA brown bread, baked beans (sometimes w/a hot dog) was a standard evening meal when the cupboards were bear. We loved it. The bread is already cooked, usually we didn't heat it up, ate it sliced up cold. Sometimes we warmed it up in the oven first. Cream cheese & jelly would taste great on it. The sweet flavor in the bread is molasses.

I’ve been thinking about your set up. Get you some lil aluminum loaf pans at Walmart. 8.5”x4.5”x2.5” $1.24 for 3 loaf pans I think. Spray with PAM. Get some Martha White Blueberry Cream Cheese muffin mix or Banana Nut bread mix. They are $1.08 at Walmart. I don’t make muffins with it. I just pour it in a loaf pan. Just add 1/2 cup milk and stir it up. Makes about 6 good slices. I think it would work great in your lil oven. 👍😋

Happy 2023 guys.! Glad to see you both are back to "The Cooking & Coffee with Nick". We love that mono coffee stand, we have something similar but for grilling trout & marron that we kidnapped from our neighbour's dam...!!! Just kidding, we exchange goods for what we need & what they required. Fair trade with a hand shake deal. It's a rarity nowadays. Bread in a Can..!? It looks more like Christmas Pudding with raisins soaked with Rum.! Lavazza is a great coffee blend, it is very popular in Australia. Now for a little 2 cent worth - We just snip 2 holes on the can itself so hot evapouration can take place when on the coals. Wedge the can in between 2 fairly thick branches so it won't turn. Periodically turn the can for consistency. When it's time, take the can off & let it cool down enough so you can open it with a can opener. The inside will still be very hot so be careful. Cut is straight down the middle & you could smell the sweetest aroma vapourising out. Slice into wedhges & serve with honey or thick hot chocolate. Cowabunga.!! Now that you've got that cool oven, how about doing an overnighter with a full roast meal in the bush? A challenge, if you choose to accept it. Your show is always entertaining. Cheers Cobber.! Greetings from Australia.

@@tracker5849 It's a fairly dense, slightly sweetened brown bread, already baked, and once pushed out of the can is easily sliced. Heated or cold, it's (IMO) good.

Hi Dave, When you are baking with a Dutch oven the rule of thumb is 1/3 coals on the bottom 2/3 on the top . Heat rises that why less heat is required on the bottom. Your oven seems similar to a Dutch oven to me just thinner and different metals. Thanks for the video keep up the good work.

Yep, another good one Dave and Nick. I have never had it, but I'm shocked you have never heard of Brown bread in a can. It used to be relatively cheap but now it's kind of expensive. You can thank the preppers who buy it by the case. Ilike the Mono-pod, very minimalist.

Brown bread in a can is Great!! I like with no raisens....Needs no cooking...can eat it right out of can....or can toast. Good with peanut butter....Always have some in cabinet......and ate some over ten year old cans during Covid....A little surprised you needed can opener and didn't use a p-38 or SAK or multi tool to open in woods...LOL

Been enjoying this bread for years. A very simple way to heat is to leave it right in the can and lay it in the coals for a bit, rotating several times. Just be careful when the can starts to expand you take it off the heat. I always use 'the 3 click method', it will produce 3 audible clicks before it blows up, (learned that one from Edward Abbey). Have actually heated many canned foods this way. You could also drop it into a large pot of boiling water to heat. This is actually how most canned goods are processed initially. In fact the bread is fully cooked even cold right from the can. The sweet taste you experience is actually molasses. Good luck.

    Great video,
I've been eating B&M Brown Bread in a can since I was a little kid, it's good stuff. One tip, you don't have to bake the brown bread in the can, it's already cooked, you can just open the can and eat it without heating it. Or you can just warm it up if you want it heated, you don't have to bake it, it's already baked.. It's also great with butter or cream cheese.

You are awesome at evaluating products we shy away from because of no experience with the products you show and I appreciate that. One thing I have not found anyone address is sleeping bags with zippers that don't bind up on you at 2:00 am. 0° F you've answered nature's call and stoked the fire not the time or mindset to deal with a bound zipper. Just a thought for you if there is another solution or not. Keep up the good work and God bless.

I had that canned bread when we went camping, when I was a kid. I really liked it then, and was thinking about it a while ago. I wish it wasn't so expensive, I'd keep a few cans around just for a supplement to our camp foods. As is, I'd like to get a can or two just for a treat, I remember really liking it. Happy 2023 to you and your family.

Testing doneness can be accomplished with a clean fine steel wire. Poke it into the cake, bread, muffin or brownie and if it comes out clean the product is done. If it comes out dirty the baked item is not done. We us a wire about 1/64 inch diameter. I wouldn't know the gauge maybe 20 or 22. Still more than 13 years of videos to watch, but I'm catching up. Another interesting and enjoyable video.

Dave, As I recall, my Mom steamed that B&M Brown bread in the can a a pot of water on the stove. We'd take the can opener & pop a couple of slits in the can and put it in a pan of water to steam it. After it steamed for a while we'd take it out of the pan, cut both ends of the can and push it out. Spread some butter & good to go. The brown bread is precooked so all you have to do is warm it up! My 2 cents. 3 Fingers, West Michigan
