Hello friends! Hope you enjoy this one! We are really had to go here twice to film because on our first visit, the lighting was so bad and background so noisy! It turned out better on our second try! Let us know what your favorite thing to eat from an Izakaya! And as always we’d loce to hear your thoughts. 🙏
Greetings and great post. I went to an American version here in the states. Ima Izakaya in the city of Detroit. I am vegan, so I had a vegan yaki udon noodles with tofu and loved it.
Thank you Shinichi and Satoshi for highlighting one of my favorite experiences, and memories, of Japan- Izakaya. I enjoy the a la carte dishes - agedashi tofu, yaki onigiri - etc that remind me of simple everyday foods at a MUCH higher quality level than convenience store offerings. I've spent many fun evenings with friends, socialized with our neighboring customers in a light hearted and relaxed setting. More like this please...
Thanks for explaining the details of enjoying Izakaya. Years back when we went out always tried to pick a place that offered some sort of snack. Usually just some fried items. This menu looks so much better. Since there is nothing like that here would be nice if you did a home version. Show a few dishes one could make at home and serve friends. Grilling foods might difficult. Hello from lovely Oregon US.
I love the casual, friendly atmosphere of Izakaya and the reasonable prices which won't break the bank. 😄 Unpretentious food and beverages with broad appeal make them so accessible and comfortable--like a local bar/pub or tapas bar. Thank you, Shinichi and Satoshi, for taking us to Wazen and walking us through the kind of food and drink we could expect there. Love to you both. 💚💙 Have a great weekend!
Thank you for the explanation and recommendation we tried this place tonight and it was good, loved the ambience! Keep the great content greetings from Costa Rica!
this video is put together so well, and the little sound effects that came up with the prices = really cute and really slick edits 💗💗💗 congrats guys, your channel only gets better and better all the time ✨
I miss visiting my local izakaya - they used to have some kind of mochi-cheese dish that was amazing. Tried to replicate it but it’s just not the same without that izakaya atmosphere! 😅
The best part of an izakaya for me is the shime, whether that be fried rice or soba. But otherwise, a big fan of getting a beer with karage, edamame, and tamagoyaki! Tsukune, negima, gyoza, and crab are also favorites. As far as what you had that I usually don't get, that grilled fish looked wonderful!
I love going to an izakaya! I used to spend my birthday at an izakaya with friends in my university days. Especially if they had a nomihodai😅my drink of choice is highball. And I always have to order edamame. Nowadays it's fun to find local izakaya in the more residential neighbourhouds. I'm a bit sad that the one neer Motohasunuma has changed, to a mostly fish one. The beef tongue there was so good. Hey your earing my last name😂 People always look weird if I right down my name at a restaurant or say it; Hokke🙈
Wazen here I come! I also love the Japanese-only, menus-on-the-wall places which just reek of authenticity reminding me of my obachan's non-fussy cooking. thanks guys!
Everything looked delicious. I swear Shinichi, you look younger every day. You guys looked so good in that thumbnail. At first, I thought it was AI generated.😂
One of my best memories from a recent work trip to Japan was having a day off to visit Enoshima and staying at a Ryokan there. Took a nice bath at the Ryokan, had the munchies, walked down the quiet street and passed by a tiny izakaya with just counter seating. Ordered yakitori potesara and a oolong high and chatted with the two owners and another patron in Japanese. Earlier the trip my friend also took me to a izakaya where we met Genki Sudo which was awesome.
The “ favorite “ dish depends on where the izakaya is. Like if in Nagoya, it will be Nagoya tebasaki wings. Or like in Tokyo, which part of Tokyo usually have a speciality.
Love to eat at American Izakaya that make pretty authentic food. Some dishes can be gluten free like edamame, sashimi, rice. Not the tamago(made with flour), or anything with shoyu unless they offer gluten free tamari. Sushi can be OK too, depends, but in Japan I would not because of communication. Still rice and sashimi looks like a great meal for the price!
I've gone alone many times. Many of them, you can just have a seat right at the bar. Many locals go alone, but they're regulars, so they all know each other haha
Great video!! I loved the graphics with names, phrases and prices. So helpful.🤗 everything looked delicious! Helps me when deciding here in 🇨🇦 restaurants 👍🏼👍🏼
I find crossing index fingers to staff as the most effective way of asking for the bill. Firstly since it can be loud and secondly i dont need to worry about saying it incorrectly.
Thanks guys, this is a video I was looking forward to see. It's very helpful. Do you know if solo visitors can go to this Izakaya? The private booths seem to be for bigger groups, I'm wondering how it caters to solo visitors..
Shinichi once explained why he intentionally mispronounces "izakaya"...but I've forgotten his rationale. It always sounds wrong with the stress placed on the "ka." Satoshi occasionally splits the difference, nearly leaning in Shinichi's direction...but mostly, he says it the Japanese way. Much more euphonic!
Thank you for explaining izakaya! I don't think I would come to this place though because $5 for 5 gyoza or a scoop of fried rice is way too expensive. But I would like to try an izakaya place that is reasonably priced.

Perhaps you need to go a third and fourth time... just to be sure... 😉
I love it when Satoshi-san describes Izakaya food as a "good friend to alcohol." It's poetry.

Izakayas always intimidated me since it looks so intense and loud from the outside. Will def check out this place next time and copy your menu 😊
The food looked very oishi . Satochis face after the first sip of beer priceless

Thank you for the video. I'm still watching you guys. Been watching for many years.
As always, your information is incredibly helpful and the descriptions are on point.
Thank you (arigato?)!

Love tabieats, and can’t wait to hit up many izakaya during my first trip to Japan this November!!

Honestly the thing I miss most about Japan is Izakaya, it is sooooo nice to experience!
you make me so hungry! ❤

Love you guys so much ❤
yes!
please do more Japanese restaurant practice.
Gosto muito dos vídeos de vocês! Muito obrigada pelas dicas! 🤗
That kaarage sounds so perfect!
Thanks for this video! Maybe could you make one for the beginner? Explaining the different types of restaurants in Japan?
Itś like old school Tabi Eats! Back in 2018! Iḿ so old.
Nice overview of izakaya. I love basashi & (in January & February) shirako ponzu. I am always attracted to seasonal delicacies and specials.
I just go to a Torikizoku for a MEGA beer and yakitori skewers to total satisfaction ;-)
Great vid izakayas are great!!!!! And I’m booked again for MAY 2025 🎉😊
Welcome back!

Do people go to Izakaya alone? It looks like it's for 2 or more people to enjoy together
I've gone alone many times. Many of them, you can just have a seat right at the bar. Many locals go alone, but they're regulars, so they all know each other haha
If you bothered about doing stuff alone you will never do anything. Dont rely on other to do something for you ;)
Izakaya-licious
That karaage sounded _super_ sakutto!
You are so lucky ❤❤❤❤

Can you choose to have the Tamago Sweet or Salty, or do you have to take it as it comes ?

You can definitely go solo as long as they have space. I suggest you go before 6pm before it gets busy.
Hi guys it’s been awhile since I’ve watched you. Hope all is going good.
When I go to an Izakaya, I prefer the "open space", not the private Box. Because I want to get in touch with other customers and talk to them.
those prices are amazing compared to USA
🎉🎉🎉
I enjoy the izakaya where people just politely yell out their order and the staff yell back, the food is great and it feels busy and energetic.
Is there a bell or button to call the waiter to order each dish?
When are you going to fukuoka
👍🙂👍
Some of the best, and some of the worst food I've had are in izakayas.
mystery sashimi was buri
Will you visit your fellow UA-camrs' bar "Lost" in Shibuya?
Hey, the miso soup was missing!
Good friend to alcohol 😍🥰

😘❤️❤️🤩😍🥰🌈💯🙏🌹
How is it so inexpensive?
Food in Japan is generally very cheap at least compared to North America.
