How To Prune A Weeping Cherry Tree + Adding Interest Under The Canopy // Cottoverdi

- Today I'm pruning our weeping cherry tree, Prunus 'Shidare-Yoshino'. This is a very young cherry that needs to be trained into a broad canopy. I’m also adding ground cover and some pretty plants beneath it to bring year-round interest.
I will only ever recommend products that I use regularly and believe to be good value.

Hi Anette. Your garden is beautiful and you are doing a lovely job of it. The weeping cherry really cheered-up with all the plantings at its base, and I like your plan in shaping it. Thanks for the video. X
Thank you so much Jimmy! 😁
Smashing - taking advantage of the sunshine - enjoyed the visa 🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you 😊
Great job of pruning the weeping cherry. The flower bed at its' base is planted up fabulously- will look a picture. The tulip borders are indeed looking pretty- such a show. The last of my tulips blooming now and then the displays are over for another year, sadly, but looking forward to the dahlias. Happy gardening 🙂 x
Thanks Be. It was a mental struggle to be so brave but I had to do it to create the shape I want.
Yes, I'm busy deadheading all my tulips - they are practically gone now but the roses are forming lovely big buds! 😁🌹
I planted a higan weeping cherry tree in my front yard in 2022. Guess I'm pruning it tomorrow! Thank you for the details!
My pleasure, Sophie. Hope your pruning went well! 😊
Good job Annette. I remember in an old video you were asking how to prune it. So well done. I have to say I’m not that careful, I just hack mine any old way😁 .Your garden bed near the house looks very pretty
Yes, thank you, Carol. I did so much research to figure out how to prune it so that it creates the umbrella shape I'm hoping for. I guess we will have to wait and see over the next few years! 😊
Looking gorgeous ❤love your videos x
Thank you so much Jenny. I had to be brave to take so much off but I know it'll be worth it in a few years time. 😊
Such clear explanations on pruning weeping cherries! Thank you. Garden is looking beautiful , and the tulip beds are just stunning! Do you find that your menton tulips come back reliably?
Thank you so much Elie 😊 Yes, the Menton seem to be reliable repeat performers for at least 2 years and then they fizzle out. I do deadhead them so that they don't go to seed.
I'll bet that cherry tree is going to look great along with the things you planted around it.
Now, did I miss it or did you forget to pay the Cosmo tax in this video? 😸
Thanks - and yes, Cosmo was there but he was dashing around like a crazy kitten and enjoying the garden! 🤣😻
