S1H is the best mirrorless camera out for video, nothing can touch it as an all round package. So excited about this camera, hopefully will rent one to give it a go and pair it with my GH5S
Fantastic. In essence the first run&gun cine camera?! The video screen with the compact overview and quick edit of all relevant video settings is an excellent addition. What‘s missing? Direct recording to SSD via USB-C would be nice. Other than that by far the most complete FF hybrid camera on the market. Well done, Panasonic!
Man, thanks for the review, these days cameras are becoming more than what most photographers/videographers ever wants. Absolutely great era to live in in terms of tech richness. It's so tempting to go with this beast and everytime I think of it seriously, I say I'm not yet ready to enter this realm. Need to upgrade my NAS storage first and sharpen my skills in videography with the tools, I have. The good thing is that I have many options now more than ever to choose from. Hopefully I'll be ready in the next iteration of this camera series. Thanks again for also sharing the files to play with, much appreciated
Heading to Taiwan next week, so will be testing the camera in the real world and also the photography side of the camera. Watch out for the vide over the next few weeks.
It depend on why type of shooting you mostly do. For a film shoot, BM6K definitely on the go. But for run and gun shooting, definitely S1H win. BM6k shoot 6K RAW up to 60fps, in spec, it is totally incomparable&unbeatable to any camera under 5k this day. I would see the BM6K as a cinema camera, when the Sony and Panasonic S as a hybrid camera. They are totally in a different league. Talking about battery life in BM6k, yes LP-e6 is not the best for design. The serious shooter, they will power this thing up by V-Mount/External battery. That's why BM gives a serious external power plug for a longer shoot. ==> Nothing can hold up against RAW in post.
@@DarrylCarey Wow, interesting! it's under development, but yes, it's gonna be rock! But I don't believe it would deliver RAW or ProresRAW up to 6k. I assume the maximum it can get is up to 4k 24-30p through HDMI 2.0. Overall it's Lumix S1H on steroid, not internal recording like what BM6K can give. BM6K (2500$) with cheap Feelworld monitor (130$) still a bigger deal.
Do you know if Panasonic was able to fix the severe blue light clipping problem that the S1 has in VLog? This is only a VLog issue as HLG does not clip its blues. Im hoping to bring more attention to this issue as once the blue channel is crushed, its impossible to repair in post.
it is a long time since you have got these cameras.. I want to know in single af mode do you feel any lag with the s1?? for photographing portraits?? and if you have a atmos recorder would really like to see the camera view finder being recorded ..
Stunning camera for sure. For me, it has 2 very serious drawbacks, that I don't see how Panasonic will fix it soon. First is the autofocus performance and the second is the rolling shutter. They need a completely new autofocus system and global shutter sensor and this will be the perfect video camera then.
Tell me just one camera which got better rolling shutter in FULL FRAME like this camera? Most cameras are just Super 35 and the rolling shutter on the S1/H in Super 35 isn't worse than the competition!
Just uploaded a new video on the ProRes Raw, I only use the AF on the S1H for photos. Will have to see if there is any improvements to the AF in the new firmware
I did not know that, does the 6K model have a fan? I hope that is not the reason for the poor battery life on the Blackmagic, maybe something to watch out for the on the S1H.
@@DarrylCarey I see the blackmagic as a cinema camera, I think it's a bonus that you can use it with a canon battery and has a screen, if I wanted longer battery life, I would put a V mount battery on it, but that's just me

I agree with everything you said except for it creating an image that is better than the bmpcc 6k . It’s ALMOST as good as the black magic image . But the black magic 6k is 12 bit and this only records 10 bit . The b-raw 12 bit 6k footage is a better image , with much more room to color grade in post .
Hi Rohit, I was lost for words when I saw BM put a DSLR mount on a mirrorless camera, should have gone with the EOS-R mount which would have made the camera smaller but then BM has Braw which is nice.
I have the Lumix S1 and it can shoot at 4K60 WITH Audio and AF. It also has a High-Frame rate mode, where I can choose 4K60 only in MF and without Audio and Output in 30p (hence 2x SloMo).
Hi Darryl, I love your videos, but the last two (including this one) have a lot of reverb in the room and it's pretty distracting (sounds like you are in a cathedral). Maybe something you can do about your room? thanks and take care.
Hi Felipe, thanks for the feedback. I was moving to a new place but that is not happening now so I will be adding better acoustics over the next few weeks. Sadly the my gallery is not the best place to shoot videos.
Darryl Carey you could add sound curtains onto c stands and place them behind the camera, kind of like DSLR video shooters video a few weeks back. Will cut out a ton of reverb easily
Hey Darryl, I think this echo is not natural. Do you use EQ or do you put any audio effect on your soundtrack? I watch it on high quality speakers in my living room and it really sounds like in a cathedral and talking with the voice of god. Especially because I have activated Auro3D upmix, so your voice is also coming from up my ceiling :D
I've been a GH5 user since it came out. Used to shoot full frame Nikon back in the day. I'm assuming you can't adapt micro 4/3 lenses with this and telephoto crop like you can when you're using Sony mount? what is the lens selection like? I'm new to the Panasonic full frame world.
I'm the same as you, I came from a Nikon background which I shoot for 10yrs and now full Panasonic Lumix ( and some other camera brand). Sadly you can not attach the 4/3 lenses to the L-mount (maybe in the never future this will change - wink wink). Sigma is part of the L-mount system and have just released a nice range of L-Mount lenses, plus you can use the Sigma EF adaptor which will let you attached Canon EF lenses. Checkout my unboxing video of the S1H, I shot the video on the S1 and the Sigma Cine 18-35mm T2.0 lens which was a Canon EF mount.
Darryl Carey That news is very exciting. I'm a GH5 user with native glass. I'd make the leap if I knew the transition was smoother. Meaning being able to use my existing glass. I dread the thought of investing in M4/3 glass for it to go to waste.
