A little disappointed. I think Panasonic should have went with double SD cards on the S1 and double XQD cards on the S1H so it would record 4:2:2 10bit at every resolution. I think that’s asking too much from SD cards, even V90’s. Shooting in 6k really needs Raw. Also at that price point, you can get a ZCam F6 (6k, full-frame), that records in Raw or h.265 at a higher bit rate, all with a great dynamic range. If the S1H had a lower price, it would compete better with current video camera models. Let’s see what the Sony a7siii will have & it’s price point. They are saving the ND filters for the EVA2. Also, the EVA2 will unlock the full features of the S1H, in a larger body.

looks like a great camera for people doing weddings, tilt screen is great for people using gimbals as well. Hopefully I can afford the upgrade at some point
Should we wait for Sony A7S3?? Thats the question. This camera looks impressive except for the Autofocus. I love shooting manual and if I buy this camera I would wrap around my head that I will be shooting with manual focus. That price though is the one that got me thinking. We are talking about 6000 $ to get this camera with the new 24 70 F2.8 as your only lens!!!! Ouch!!
Picture quality seems very good, not mind-blowing though. The lack of proper AF is a disappointment. I can't really see the market for these type of cameras. They have really advanced video capabilities in a photographic-oriented body, which is not really prepared to video work. That means that you have to put a lot of accessories (xlr adapter, ND's, battery grip...). If you are serious about video and willing to pay a hefty price tag, why would you pick one of these instead of, say, canon c200 or sony FS5?
It seems like an odd beast to me as well, I'm not sure who will buy into this system. I can't imagine anyone buying this to shoot photos so I too don't get the photographic body style they've went with. If Sony ups their bitrates and offers 10 bit I think those cameras will make better all-rounders for hybrid shooters. Interesting though to see what it will push other makers to produce now.
Why? IBIS in a relatively small body compared to an FS5 or C200. Adapt PL, EF, Nikon and all kinds of other lenses, while still using IBIS. Still fits on a Ronin-s. Full Frame.
Wow, Panasonic really have pulled out all the stops for this one!!! Now its on to Sony and Canon to see what they put on the market over the next few months. What I will say is that the race to the higher 'K' output isn't what people should be looking for. A nice LOG curve in HD 10bit is as good as anything you'll need for the next 12 months!!
Highlight rendering looks definitely better than Sony A7 series cameras on video. This S1H is so good for video major/still minor usage, but the biggest letdown is AF! Damn! Can't just give us a perfect camera in today's available technology? Why?! (Blackmagic has the best IQ, especially color and DR rendering. Sony has the best AF. Panasonic has almost everything....but AF has not met the average standard, ie. A7iii/A7Riii standard). And Sony never improve highlight rendering on videos in their A7 series cameras, i wonder if it's because none of the reviewers gave Sony this feedback? I am shocked! No reviewer sees this as an IQ issue? If Sony can make the A7Siii highlight rendering as good as this S1H with the latest AF capability, i'd say it's a buy for me.
I am exited about this camera, it looks like an excellent B camera for documentary filmmakers like myself. A few questions do come to mind: Are there L mount speedboosters available yet? Wide angle when shooting in 4K 4.2.2. is a concern... Also, how is the I.S. with non Panasonic glass? I.S. with cine glass sounds amazing... This does look interesting, I like the viewfinder too, it’s actually useable, which makes for a nice change...
The auto focus is the biggest let down I have heard about this which is a really big shame for the S1H. No doubt though the bmpcc6k and S1H is gonna make other cameras improve..
What should happen for variable ND is a Fotodiox throttle ND that fits third party lenses to the Panasonic L mount. I used one for the Nikon Z mount with Rokinon EF mount lenses and another with FD lenses to Z mount and both worked great. But to date Fotodiox has not produced their throttle ND for the L mount.
Hi can you help - someone is saying that they are selling a Panasonic S1 - NTSC version - do you know what that means... I thought they both shoot NTSC and PAL or do I need to somehow convert it?
I think there is a lot of OEM parts in there from Sony and Atamos .(sensor is Sony for sure)Price is way too high.Black Magic is over 1K cheaper. The 4 K 1295,- (so I can do a three camera shoot in 4K)Just saying.Has Some Nice features nevertheless.
Can that autofocus be fixed in a future software update or is it a hardware issue? I love this camera and want it so bad, but autofocus is an important factor in the work that I do. If I thought that Panasonic was going to invest in making that feature at least comparable to Sony and Canon than I'd probably pull the trigger. If it is a lost cause and a hardware issue, then I'll probably have to pass... unfortunately.
Thanks! I'm assuming you mean the S1H footage? For grading, most of the legwork was done with the Panasonic L-Log LUT (technical, not a creative LUT) that's built into FCPX, which gave quite a good result for most shots straight away. From there I adjusted the shadows and highlights slightly along with a touch of saturation to match each shot to the sequences. Dan

sickhcivc pay attention my dude. L MOUNT jeeeez
They have a EF to L mount adapter. Also L to PL mount adapter.
Which one is better 4 k 4.2.2 or 6k 4.2.0?
What lens was used to film the test footage in this Carl (the actual S1H camera not the BTS cam)?
All of the footage from the S1H was shot on their new 24-70mm f2.8 :www.proav.co.uk/panasonic-lumix-s-pro-24-70mm-f2-8-lens
Dan
looks like a great camera for people doing weddings, tilt screen is great for people using gimbals as well. Hopefully I can afford the upgrade at some point
Absolutely, it would be a fantastic choice for weddings.
Carl
IF you can't afford it, buy the Blackmagic pocket 6k for only $2495. Probably better for shooting weddings as well
@@gfilm6870 I own a pocket 4k and I'd much rather use the S1H tbh. Reliability. lowlight, and battery performance is key for weddings to me
@@timekeepermedia5142 I own the pocket 4k and think the lowlight is actually better. Just buy a battery grip for the pocket 4k for better battery?
@@gfilm6870 The Pocket actually is not a good camera for weddings. You know how many batteries you'll have to take with you? Also no IBIS.
fans and heat ? No ARM chip yet !
Wow... the model is gorgeous
I want her phone number.
Это пиздец какая крутая камера ...
Any news on dynamic range and highlight handling?
Full frame
Why? IBIS in a relatively small body compared to an FS5 or C200. Adapt PL, EF, Nikon and all kinds of other lenses, while still using IBIS. Still fits on a Ronin-s. Full Frame.
c200 is pricer, heavier and can shoot either in raw or lousy mp4. Same goes for FS5 which cannot do 4K at 60p.
Atomos have announced ProRes Raw recording over HDMI with the S1H and the Ninja V since this video was published
Indeed they have! It's a very exciting development, we can't wait to test it out.
Dan
@@ProAVTV They have mentioned Raw not ProRes Raw specifically
love how the menu looks
How many times are you going to say "unlimited recording"? That's simply not possible unless it streams off to some off-camera storage.
Was the footage filmed in St Albans? Looks familiar.
You should've been an actor, friend. Nice video! Well-spoken.
Which camera and lens did you use for the closeup S1H shots? The product shots look alot sharper and overall calmer.
This S1h is a fantastic camera, but $ 4,000 is a lot ....
*cough*
RED camera
Cheap for what it offers. Professional video cameras are much more expensive.
meh...
Disappointed?
Carl
prefer the more affordable Blackmagic pocket 6k
That screen!!!!!!! 😍
Hi what ND filter did you use and where can I buy it thank you
We used the Tiffen Variable ND, and you can get one from our website: www.proav.co.uk/tiffen-82mm-variable-neutral-density-filter

This monster can now do 6k 24fps RAW into the Ninja V!
Why don't you mention about the bad rolling shutter instead of pretending like it is a review and not an advertisement for the camera.
The Panasonic Lumix S-Series Camera Professionals - S1H, S1, S1R Facebook Group has a good discussion going on about this camera. I recommend joining.
If it is a lost cause and a hardware issue, then I'll probably have to pass... unfortunately.
may I ask how you grad your footage? Looks awesome
Dan
Thanks for your video! do you know if it's possible to charge the battery with the SS USBC plug while shooting video?
Is ist possible To use cf-Express-cards? Behause of the 400MB per second.
Will the Atomos Shogun 7 be of any use with the S1H? What has happened to the Atomos Shogun 7? not a lot of reviews online since its availability.
It would have been a real coup if Panasonic had figured out how to build a variable ND filter into this thing.
does this shoot 4k120fps? or 360fps in 1080p?!?!
lol, the A1 just made this useless.
For $1500-2000 more but in terms of the market pretty much.
It is all about the build quality (leica) we like to know is there a chance is works for how long
I know it's not for pictures but is it good for photos I will be using it for both?
my only concern is how good or inefficient is the auto focus for like a wedding
All Panasonic need to do now is make a servo zoom lens for camera and i will buy it
one big Problem with the GH5: you cant use HDMI out and camera controll over usb for a gimbal to controll f/iso/wb at the same time. Is this fixed now?
💪👍💯
Always wondered, where do you guys get those lovely domed stickers made for your gear?
Your show is so well put together. Shooting on the C300 helps too!
What's with the front red button
Who do they think they are, LEICA?😅
Thank you for the video, how did the camera perform in low light scenarios?
It look like a dream to me . And never will be true ; ( :(
Really LOVE what Panny is doing here... but damn i cant get around 4k60 ONLY in s35 crop mode... :((((
What if we can apply speed booster adapter to 35mm mode?
I am curious how the battery life is going to be on the consumer model.
See what happens when you take too long sony?
We have been waiting quite a while...
Carl
ProAV TV yes indeed ☹️. Either way competition is great!
How is it as a photo stills camera. I know you discussed it quickly and I know it's more a video camera first but in DP reviews all theybsaid was it suffersbas avphoto camera and that's it.
mkq0007 its 24mp same as the S1 so most likely similar stills IQ.
What is the size of a single pixel on the sensor?
was the b roll footage of the young woman filmed using AF? thank you for the effort and the sharing. i am an appreciative subscriber.
No, manual focus. Thanks for watching
