  • On October 1st, a stadium stampede left 135 dead in Indonesia. It’s the country's worst football-related tragedy, but not the first. Why has Indonesian football been called the most dangerous in Asia?
Insight examines what happened that fateful night at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, in the match between Arema and Persabaya. What events led up to the stampede that claimed 135 lives?
According to local watchdog Save Our Soccer, there have been 86 football-related deaths in Indonesia. An over-zealous fanbase, poor management and the taint of corruption have created a toxic football culture in the country. Even President Jokowi has called for reform in the sport.
Will the Kanjuruhan Stadium Disaster be the catalyst for much needed change?

Why would you interview Yuli Sumpil? He is well known football provocator, he is leading the hate and racist chants, literally about killing their rival and calling them animal. Still see him given stage is appauling. He is part of the problems.

The Indonesian Football League also lost to clubs from Cambodia. But there is an idea to play in the Asian tournament. Are they not shy? Go and win the Cambodian league first. As far as I know, the Indonesian club lost to the Cambodian club by 5 goals, right? Indonesian football doesn't even have the ability to play in the rounds Thai clubs play in, so they howl like dogs.

Unfortunately, it always takes a tragedy and people being killed, for any changes and reforms to take place.

Im sure they buzz in at any location, and send any varying of things, until they can incite an entire city with hatred and terror, but that iraqi statue should have been enough for you to realize.

6:39 Indonesia initially had its own culture, namely mania, inspired by Latin American supporters who were known to be very fanatical. while ultras are a culture from Italy. Several supporter groups in Indonesia do adhere to ultras culture. but those involved in the tragedy were Aremania (the name for Arema FC supporters) and they were not ultras.

how about stadium ban from hosting matches if can get the fan in control, or even team being banned from playing, if they truthly love their team, they need to self control.

But nope, all matches now are behind closed doors because of Aremania's stupidity. It's like an entire class got punished because of one student's mistake. As a result, Arema is now the most hated club here because of that tragedy... I mean comedy.

Please, don't call this a tragedy. What happened back then was a comedy. Hundreds of children trapped inside the body of an adult having a mass tantrum throwing after their team lost.

clearly don't understand the meaning of a human crush or a stampede and it shows. it was a tragedy because so many innocent people, women and children died. if you're small you're the first to go in such a disaster.
