Great review! I don't like PSG sound chip at all in the Master System and Game Gear at all. If only someone would make a Sixteen bit version of the soundtrack...
Great review! I love this game. Good balance in difficulty. Unlike the skull crushing insanity of S2 for the GG. Sunset Park’s boss theme is one of the best. If Sonic Mania 2 ever becomes a thing, a few hand held levels like Sunset Park would greatly welcomed. Cheer mate! Thanks for the fun videos!
Finally someone of like mind when it comes to Mania 2. I personally want Mania 2 to feature at least 8 Zones from Classic games that weren't in Mania Plus & I want Sunset Park to be 1 of them. Triple Trouble has always been my favorite of the 8-Bit Sonic games since I 1st played it through Sonic Adventure DX on GameCube. There are several zones I want to see get reimagined in Mania 2 or Mania 3 like Bridge Zone, Scrap Brain (using aspects from both the 8-Bit & 16-Bit versions), Quartz Quadrant, Ice Cap, Sunset Park, & those are just my Top 5.
Interestingly, the Strike Dash has a leg up on its Sega CD counterpart, in that if you charge it up until you see sparks it can actually function as an attack! Astonishingly, in Sonic Chaos this takes a whole _30 seconds_ to do! It's pretty much (if not literally) instant in Triple Trouble, on the other hand.
This is the second best 8-Bit Sonic game with Sonic 1 being the first. It took two games but Sonic finally got a consistent and enjoyable 8-Bit successor after being up and down and all around with Sonic 2 (8-Bit) and Chaos. I'm looking forward to the live stream RHS, this was an entertaining review especially with those drawing segments
I agree that both Sonic 1 & Triple Trouble are the 2 best 8-Bit Sonic games although I favor Triple Trouble just slightly. I will also say that I prefer the 8-Bit versions of Sonic 1 over the MegaDrive/Genesis version of the game.
when comparing the graphics of this game to the previous one, if your comparing a GG game to MS games the GG has an upgraded vdp allowing the use of more colours. Its not a huge difference but if used well its noticable
Chaos>Triple Trouble when it comes to the music. The unused version of Sunset Park sounds better in Chaos IMO and I like Sonic’s sprites a tad bit better too but I do like the added animations in Triple Trouble. I’m definitely looking forward to the remake!
I'm watching this video today because just the other day the 16bit remake finally came out and I wanted to look up the original for comparison. Hopefully one day you can to a full review of the fan remake!
I learnt a lot about Sonic Triple Trouble based on this video alone, plus comparing what other Sonic Master System & Game Gear games had in terms of similarities and differences. 1:08 looked quite amusing. Seems like the special stages go from simple to tedious. Input lag is always annoying in terms of tight reaction times. Hyper Cola was a funny way of mimicking Tails's exclusive power up. It's great to see how Sonic Triple Trouble has improved overall in quality, presentation, and more, plus learnt some of its mistakes from Sonic Chaos. Overall, excellent review. It was well explained with additional animations like with Sonic & Fang regarding the emeralds scenario. You put in so much hard work, and was worth the wait. It totally paid off! Looking forward to the remake, as the footage shown here is tremendous.
It's nice you review one of my favorite sonic games and a sonic game that i actually grew up with along side sonic chaos and sonic drift 2 during my childhood when i only had access to plug and play consoles but anyway, a good review and awesome video. RHS, you really have taken inspiration from other youtubers (including the ones i follow) to improve your work and you stepped well ahead me as a hobbyist youtuber. so yeah, keep up the awesome work RHS. =)
What a time to be alive! I enjoyed these games as a kid back in the day and it's fantastic that fans are spending their time to make amazing looking remakes.
Compared to Sonic Chaos, this is a superior game in Soundtrack, but in Level Design, I think Sonic Chaos takes the cherry on top of the cake. Also, I can't wait for the 16-Bit Version to come out! :D
I think Sonic decided to have a conversation with Knuckles to get the chaos emeralds back but once he realized that talking wouldn’t change his mind his decides to not speed up because why speed up when he’s to high in the air?
We know it isnt sonic quadruple trouble, the only reason metal is there is because knuckles became sonics friend which means metal will be the replacement
I feel like redhotsonic was the man behind the story editing of triple trouble 16 bit, all his rants are corrected in the (amazing) fan remake that he was also working on
I'm from the future. UA-cam did indeed confiscate the polls feature. They're still in livestream chats and community posts but axing the video ones (you know, the site's main attraction) seems really counter-productive if I do say so myself. Ah well, my vote goes to Triple Trouble's OST!
My favorite ost from this is Sunset Park Act 3 as well! I think the Sonic Chaos version was horrid in my opinion. This game’s version though, was right on the money!
.... I don't really understand. Where was there input lag? You said you used the portable screen & it had no input lag right? But that has absolutely nothing to do with your recording setup. Why would it NOT be your recording setup causing lag? I mean of course it does! All recording setups introduce a lot of input lag in fact, specially if you're viewing the game thru the capture window. And the VGA output of your Game Gear is totally different from the LCD output. It's likely using it's own hardware for the VGA output & that hardware could be causing extra lag for that VGA output. Which kit did you use for your Game Gear mod? Some kits are known for adding lag to the video out side of things.
While your points may be valid, two things to consider. One, it's the only game I was experience lag (Sonic 1, 2 and Chaos I didn't). And two, when I play through the GG to my BVM, which is all analogue and has no digital output, it's still there. Admittedly, it's very minimal and most wouldn't notice, but I did and with the collision boxes not being brilliant in the game (especially the springs), it became more noticeable.
@@redhotsonic That is indeed very odd. You don't normally see specific games having lag when others don't on the same system. Very odd indeed. I wonder what would cause such a thing?
I had Sonic 1, 2 and Chaos on the SMS and always resented they continued developing sonic games on the Game Gear. They both share the same library, and while Sonic Chaos was okay, Triple Trouble always seemed a big loss for the SMS. Now I know it really was a big loss, because it looks amazing. Could hace been gorgeous on SMS with a "regular" screen size

I wish you went over how weird it was having Sonic/Tails look back and forth between what's ahead and at you when doing the Tornado Special Stages.
Everytime they glanced back, I was like "Don't look at me, keep your eyes on the road, sky, whatever."
This game is basically Sonic 3 & Knuckles for Game Gear
