There was something I always liked about Robotnik Winter. Even in the original, it was always one of the most fun levels I ever played. Plus, that name. Robotnik Winter. It's a futuristic mechanic frozen tundra. That and, you get to use snowboards at regular intervels.

The bosses are references to the actual bosses from the OG Gamegear game. Great Turquoise had the giant Turtle. You used springs on the mini turtle bots and the air-spin move to hit it. Sunset Park had the train run. Locomotive was the boss like here. Meta Junglira had the snake. Its amazing they took the snake and made it themed into a snake temple. Robotnik Winter had the Giga Penguin that shot out penguin bots. Very similar here. Tidal Plant had you fighting Knuckles in a submarine. Was super easy to cheese as Tails, of course. Atomic Destroyer had Metal Sonic, a fake out with Nack/Fang, and then 4x phases of Robotnik. 1st was him on that pogo stick, then shooting fire, then shooting electrical balls, and finally the arena. This has been rather faithful. Triple Trouble also had you fight Nack at the end of most of the Special Stages. The Air Scooter also is quite faithful. You had the Pogostick, the Air Scooter flying about, the missile, and then the drill.
I just recently stumbled onto this channel due to a recommendation from a friend and it has been a blessing. These Sonic fan games are nuts. I particularly like the usage of the Sonic 3 version of the Sonic sprite. The Mania sprite is really jarring for me but S3&K is my favorite platformer of all time so I'm definitely biased. I'll definitely have to give this one a go.
I never liked the sonic 3 sprite, I prefer the 1/cd sprite, and for me sonic 2's sprite is the best one, so I kinda avoid the sonic 3 sprite if I can replace it with a mod
@@nicolasbernasconi7228 there’s something about the older sprite that makes Sonic look washed out to me. Thankfully we live in the glorious age of mods.
I really appriciate the Special Stages in this game.... I tried playing Fallen Star, and the Special Stages in that game kinda killed my interest. Since they were just.... Really weirdly hard from the get go. (I still need to eventually finish it.... I just don't feel like messing with those stages....) But, I feel like the thing that makes these ones SO MUCH more beginner friendly is the retry system. Like you said, it's perfect. It gives you a reason to collect 1-Ups in the stages. (Fallen Star could REALLY have used this system too.... I feel like that game needed it much MUCH more difficulty wise. And the special rings being harder to find as well.) But yeah, this fan game.... A few bugs aside, is very much on par with the classic games. Seriously, it's really fun overall to replay even. (I DO wish the free play mode had an option to just keep going... would kind of make up for Fang and Metal Sonic not having story modes if I could just play all their stages back to back smoothly.)
Between Triple Trouble and Sonic Xtreme for SEGA Saturn [that sick SAGE 2022 demo that can run on real hardware], Fang has gotten more love in a month than he has since like 1996 I DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE METAL SONIC'S FINAL FORMS WERE A REFERENCE TO THE SCRAPPED XTREME METAL DESIGN THAT'S SO COOL
the true final boss fight reminded me of the kirby adventure nightmare fight and that made me realize that despite being one of the sickest way to fight,it's somehow not used that much,or at least from what i've seen
As a massive fan of the original triple trouble, I think this game is awesome. My biggest problem with the game is that the pogo spring is only used once in the whole game, and it’s in the last 10 seconds of the secret zone.
While Mania was cool, it moreso felt like a "Sonic's Greatest Hits" Album for the classic series. This really feels like the true sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and I couldn't be happier about it. Also its 10x better than Fallen Star fite me
The colors of the final Metal Sonic boss fight are more likely a reference to Metal Sonic 3.0 from the Sonic Rivals series! Metal 3.0 is actually designed by Eggman Nega and is black with yellow stripes.
I just played this fan remake, and as someone who played and loved the original game, and as someone who is just a Sonic nut in general…. This game is incredible. I’m amazed at how accurate the remake is to the original while also going absolutely nuts with new ideas. This is certainly a contender for one of my favorite 2D Sonic titles. It felt the same magic I felt when I played 3&k and Mania for the first time. And those two are my favorite Sonic games period… so yeah. I’m gonna give it some more time to cook, but I feel pretty safe in saying this is one of the best 2D Sonic games ever. My biggest complaint was how easy it was to get all the emeralds really early on. I appreciate not being able to go super until after you beat the final boss, but I found 1 Emerald in the first stage and then the rest in second. And I found about 15 more special rings by the end of the game (and it frustrates me that I couldn’t grab those for 50 rings which is one of my favorite things to do in 3&k and Mania). Other than that, my only complaints are just the glitches, but a simple patch could easily fix those up.
20:30 that pseudo-3D effect with the parallaxing tunnels was in some other Sega game, right? Shinobi or some other ninja game, it's almost a 1:1 recreation and it gave me some good flashback moments.
makes me appreciate the sonic.exe FNF stuff just bit more. Very good in depth review, i ended up watching to the end not knowing half the stuff your talking about.
the easter eggs are really cool too. If you're playing as knuckles and go the the outside of the airship and glide of then you eventually get to robotnick winter without finishing the level.

I finished it last night, and as a fan of Triple Trouble, I think it's a great Sonic game. That boss music kicking in after Sonic gets slammed by the arm made me realize it was gonna be good.
I think this is easily the best Sonic fan game, it's absolutely fantastic. I don't even think it's that far from the quality of Sonic 3 and Mania.
Its better than it how much do i pay …oh I probably need the sega genises
@@wouldyouskibidi It's not actually a Genesis game, just a game that looks like a Genesis game. It's completely free because it's a fan game, and you can play it on PC, and soon Android phones.
Go play it, basically.
Im on ios :(
@@wouldyouskibidi Aw man, that sucks to hear. It's a fantastic game, so please keep it in mind if you ever switch over to Android or get a PC.
@@wouldyouskibidi Apparently Apple is going to allow sideloaded apps on IOS soon, meaning you'll be able to install apps from places beyond the app store and an IOS port of this game is very likely now. It'll be a while, but you'll probably be able to play this game eventually.
This is my first video of yours an must say I'm impressed with it all. Pacing, and timing, comedy and when to use it, audio seems to have no glaring issues, and a good fair review. I'll be subscribing, checking out some other videos and waiting for new ones!
Thanks for hopping aboard!
I have actually never heard of this one. Looks really cool!
"Knuckles is just angry, though" Guess they've nailed it, then.
"We are men and ready to die"
Tails: wait, what
I love how you show the glitches in good humor instead of bashing the game. Nice job. I ENJOYED the review.
Awesome review. Went pretty in-depth in a lot of aspects and with touches of humor too. Love it.
There was something I always liked about Robotnik Winter. Even in the original, it was always one of the most fun levels I ever played. Plus, that name. Robotnik Winter. It's a futuristic mechanic frozen tundra. That and, you get to use snowboards at regular intervels.
Phenomenal reviews that really shine a light on more general, widespread platformer wonk. This game looks great
“You can retry special stages with an extra life. Finally, a system has been found.”
Sonic Time Twisted who released way before TT 16 Bit: *Am I a joke to you?*
i love your channel, you’re a breath of fresh air in this community. keep kickin butt
:D
"YOU ARE NOTHING TO ME." "I MUST BECOME EGG." The best things I ever heard.
Triple Trouble 16-Bit: *adds Metal Sonic and gives Origins the finger*
Sonic Origins 2023: *proceeds to add Amy in it's DLC and returns the gesture back*
The bosses are references to the actual bosses from the OG Gamegear game.
You had the Pogostick, the Air Scooter flying about, the missile, and then the drill.
your delivery is so much funny, wow. that was an enjoyable video to watch
*"you are NOTHING to me-"*
I just recently stumbled onto this channel due to a recommendation from a friend and it has been a blessing.
I just don't feel like messing with those stages....)
But, I feel like the thing that makes these ones SO MUCH more beginner friendly is the retry system. Like you said, it's perfect. It gives you a reason to collect 1-Ups in the stages. (Fallen Star could REALLY have used this system too.... I feel like that game needed it much MUCH more difficulty wise. And the special rings being harder to find as well.)
But yeah, this fan game.... A few bugs aside, is very much on par with the classic games. Seriously, it's really fun overall to replay even. (I DO wish the free play mode had an option to just keep going... would kind of make up for Fang and Metal Sonic not having story modes if I could just play all their stages back to back smoothly.)
To be honest, playing Doomsday Zone and Final Trouble, I have to admit that the stakes were higher in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
I have a feeling you'll love a series called Spark The Electric Jester, and it's a perfect time since the 3rd game is out.

2022
Between Triple Trouble and Sonic Xtreme for SEGA Saturn [that sick SAGE 2022 demo that can run on real hardware], Fang has gotten more love in a month than he has since like 1996
I DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE METAL SONIC'S FINAL FORMS WERE A REFERENCE TO THE SCRAPPED XTREME METAL DESIGN THAT'S SO COOL
Legends has it that Fang is still running...
Legends say Fang is still going to this day
the true final boss fight reminded me of the kirby adventure nightmare fight and that made me realize that despite being one of the sickest way to fight,it's somehow not used that much,or at least from what i've seen
I'm so stoked that you covered 5hus game!! The moment I finished it, I knew you would absolutely adore it.

I laughed out loud when you said that, LOL. Although in all seriousness, I completely agree with you. We need a sequel to Sonic Mania.
As a massive fan of the original triple trouble, I think this game is awesome. My biggest problem with the game is that the pogo spring is only used once in the whole game, and it’s in the last 10 seconds of the secret zone.
My guess is that it just wouldn't fit the 16 bit sonic game design philosophy, so had to only be reserved for small locations.
For the scene before the credits I was also expecting a extra cutscene/cliffhanger.
22:42 "Dark Helmet" 💀
"You can play as Fang" are words I've wanted to hear spoken for over 20 years.
While Mania was cool, it moreso felt like a "Sonic's Greatest Hits" Album for the classic series. This really feels like the true sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and I couldn't be happier about it.
Also its 10x better than Fallen Star fite me
This review was really fun, but I wanted to ask, have you ever played Sonic Time Twisted?
The colors of the final Metal Sonic boss fight are more likely a reference to Metal Sonic 3.0 from the Sonic Rivals series! Metal 3.0 is actually designed by Eggman Nega and is black with yellow stripes.
24:17
Metal sonic : I WILL DESTROY YOU
24:18
Super sonic : yeah hold that thumbnail i just need a few more rings
6:24 "Atomic Destroyer has some serious Death Egg energy..................... what?" I absolutely lost my mind
I don’t understand your comedy. But I like it.
8:46 Bro, I guess Fang the Sniper is really a character that stays forever after all.
8:09 SONIC FLYING AWAY KILLED ME AND THE “oh” MADE IT WORSE
I only just realised rewatching this video for the 1000th time that at 25:12 it say at the right “He’s blue!” for one frame.
4:55 I think tails has been incinerated
10:16 Mario? Don't know about that one chief.
Wonderful analysis
I just wonder how fast this fan game could’ve been completed if it was a full professional dev team that got paid for their work…
You know it’s a good game when the only criticism is that the jump is late
"i haven't played the original triple trouble" bro please do so, it's pretty fuckin good
Not much point when we have this now though
@@ShadowUI i disagree, while the fan remake does a lot good, it doesn't completely invalidate the original or anything of the sort
Ngl this is the funniest STT 16 Bit analysis
20:30 that pseudo-3D effect with the parallaxing tunnels was in some other Sega game, right? Shinobi or some other ninja game, it's almost a 1:1 recreation and it gave me some good flashback moments.
makes me appreciate the sonic.exe FNF stuff just bit more. Very good in depth review, i ended up watching to the end not knowing half the stuff your talking about.
Metal Sonic's infamous ultimate attack for the final boss: the paint bubble from SpongeBob's Wet Painters episode
the easter eggs are really cool too. If you're playing as knuckles and go the the outside of the airship and glide of then you eventually get to robotnick winter without finishing the level.
Just a neat tidbit: the opening with the Genesis is almost certainly a reference to the Sega Channel startup animation.
