I grew up in north Georgia and went to college in dahlonega, where the Georgia gold mine started. There are two major mines still in operation within the city limits that I would go to on my off days. One had pre-cut and polished gem panning while the other had what my friend called the uncircumcised stones. They were still in their natural state. My collection nearly tripled in size while I was living there.
Little late to the party here, but does anyone else have to pause these videos and go to Google to look up the minerals James is talking about? 🙋♀️👋 The staurolite crosses, aka Fairystones I do know about. When it's Virginia's turn, you'll see why 😁
Great Video! It's so interesting to see all the different stuff you can find. still love the little dinos to indicate a place on the map. although it is hard to see sometimes which one is new. maybe it would help to make the new one a bit bigger for the first few seconds it's on screen and let it shrink to the normal size. although that would require more editing so I totally get why you've done it like this. keep up the good work!
Yeah since it's just me I am trying to make it noticable but not a ton of work. I guess I could just clear the previous one and make it larger or something. IDK. I'll think about it.
@@mooneyfinemineral If you send me the dino PNG file you use via email i could probably put something together for you. The only extra step for you during editing would be applying a chroma key effect to the little animation I'll make for it.
@@mooneyfinemineral I found out a way so you don't even have to put a chroma key effect over it. So it would just be chucking the thing into the editing timeline like with a PNG Do you know if your editing software supports .AVI files?
Ah, by the map now I understand why my only familiarity with GA is swampland (I've never been in Northern GA). Staurolite is very cool looking, never heard of that before, but could I get the name of the rainbow one mentioned at the second or third site? Looked kind of like bismuth crystal if that helps.
Awesome, thanks both. And hey I managed to get to staurolite from starlite, sometimes close enough is enough (I also need to wear my headphones more I think 😅)
Ok. Originally from D.C, but I have lived in Ga since I was 11 years old. You did pretty good with the pronunciations! Rabun County, you were close. It's pronounced Ray-bun, with the stress on the first syllable. The other one it sounded like you struggled with, was it Chattooga? It sounds like "Chattanooga" in Tennessee, but without the "n". Most of the names are Cherokee in origin, but then you lump in the Southern accent and some ot it ends up sounding nothing like it's spelled, so you did really good! I had no idea I could get fairy crosses so close to me! I'm in North Ga near Sharp Top! I'll have to go check it out! Also, for those who would like to check out Dahlonega, it's a great little town and there is even a Gold Museum you can enjoy.
The place was called Chatuge off the top of my head. That one definitely threw me but I can see how it might be something along the lines of Chatooga. And yeah! Of course be safe when you go out. Make sure you have everything you need and if there is a club in your area they might have more info. And if you find any I'd love to see them!
Lake Chatuge is pronounced Lake Sha-toog. I live on the Union/White county line with Brasstown Bald seperating us lots of National Forrest my backyard is 100,000 acres and gold is in EVERY Creek, River, and Stream around here. But you can only pan. It stinks, If you could run a dredge up here you would make a heck of a living.
Thanks for watching and have a wonderful evening. Alabama is next.
Go Dawgs

I can't wait til you come to NC. Love this channel. 😎
Thank you. And I will actually be IN NC next month it looks like. I'll try to get to NC on the channel soon though.
How did I miss this? I've been looking forward to this series, jeez UA-cam!!
Right? Thanks UA-cam xD
Heck yeah, my BF and I should be able to make good use of this list!
Hope it goes well and there is a LOT more than I covered. There are dozens and dozens of spots in Georgia.
I've only seen You break open geodes for people... This is nice...
I actually have a lot of long form videos. Not on the best on the planet but youtube doesn't let people see these very often 😅.
Jackson crossroad is permanently closed sadly

@@BuildingDwarf That would be pretty cool.
It really doesn't take much for me to do - but it's a time and refinement thing.

Cha-toog and Ray-bunn 😆 👍
I know a creek loaded with ferry crosses they come from a huge rock that runs across the creek. I have one that is a perfect cross.

That is the botryoidal hematite / goethite from Graves Mountain.
@bellablue5285 Botriodal girthite. I probably massacred the spelling of that lmao

"Chris Rock treatment" 😂🤣😂
SLAP!
Dahlonega is a good place for gemstone mining

Sha-toog...got it! Thanks!
What mountain did you say? SHARK mountain? to find the staurolite?
I think it was Stark? Off the top of my head I don't have that handy.
