Makes me miss my days on the road as an owner operator ,I would go back but things are not what they used to be,we do not need electronic log books ,or computers or cell phones to play with while driving, and drivers new how to read a map and road Atlas
The good old days when I had a brand new 1979 International COE with a 430 V8 Detroit Twin Turbo Charged AfterCooled 13 Speed with 4:11 Rear Ends Hauling Drilling Pipe for William E Thomas Trucking Albuquerque, NM and then on to Roadrunner Trucking. This new breed of trucker is what I call a truck stop trucker.
Frozen out.. Well... I'm an old owner operator when it ever got that cold I never shut them down I just let him run all the time and idled it up from the manual throttle
No offence, I love American trucks, but why do American trucks have such a hard time starting in the cold? Here in Europe I get up in the morning turn the key, it fires right up, and I can start driving right away if I want to. (I let it idle for a couple of minutes though.)
Why does it seem so difficult to crank? I mean I know it’s cold, just like a car but do you have to not cut the engine off or will it be good for the rest of the day? Just curious...
Generally they crank a lot faster, when its super cold out diesel fuel gels up and makes it hard to start. Trucks like these usually have block heaters but speaking from experience most forget to plug em in
The sound of a 3406 cold starting brings back memories of freezing my fingers off turning on and holding the preheat knob in my old '73 K 100 cab over

Retired last June the BS just got too deep
Damn, these things start better on a cold morning than I do on any given morning...
I love the smell of diesel smoke in the morning
I love the sound of the starter when it is cranking!
It's the truckers' coffee.
Gives me a hard on 🤣
I love the sound of the cranking!
I had that bull hauler and another identical one pass me by one morning in North Carolina on highway 117 at the stoplight in Mar-Mac.
Cold start y'all.
Frozen out..

Those are some good batteries to crank at that low temperature 🙂

They got 8 batteries

I was in Indiana and called a service to Jumpstart my rig. He tried to charge me $225. Turns out the hotel provides the service to its customers.
That's cool

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to plug them in lol

Diesels run a lot differently than normal car engines. You have a lot to take into account when cold starting anything.
No combustion/spark like a normal gas engine. It relies more on compression...leading to super sluggish performance in the serious cold like this.
It's hard to get a burn when it's cold out.
As a 40 year cat technician I can say that anyone who thinks thus is a good idea is just dumb!
I dont know much about truck engines and how the operate, but is the knocking sound normal on these?
Upon warm up, yes. But if it doesn't go away after 30 minutes of idling, then your engine may have a serious problem.

Are those trucks environmentally friendly with low carbon footprint?
That smoke is like aftershave for real men 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Hell no those are real trucks with the pump turned up to run hard and fast.
Is that how slow it’s supposed to crank or the batteries low?
