Wow that looks fantastic. I am really shocked that changing the color of the floor, and the stairs, made such a huge difference. It actually looks a lot bigger.
It really went from looking like a hunting cabin, to looking like a tiny house. I love the way you secured the ladder to the loft, how ingenious. I'm very impressed.
Thanks for sharing the video with us,
    Jimmy

The floor brightens up the space and also removing the spiral stair case helps to. Yes it was beautiful but took up a lot of room. Your new stair case is great and opens up so much more room. You both work great together and do excellent work. Enjoy it all

Oh, I couldn't be more thrilled for you, it looks amazing, the ladder and the floor and how it all fits together. Wish I lived closer, I have an extra nice area rug that I had gotten for a sale and it was a mite too large for us. Having a rug will make it even cozier, especially for the animals. Love your stairs, but at my age, not doable for everyday. But I would have done it 30 years ago! Live your life! Good on ya! Greetings from Chicago~!

living Off Grid McGarvey style agreed. I found the petzel core series to be so handy. Has a rechargeable super long lasting battery w/ mini usb or can use triple A’s. Turns on low first, and articulates up and down. I have dropped it a million times no problems and actually wearing out the band before the light itself. So worth the money.

I have a small off grid cabin in BC. I wanted to save room so I removed the wood burning stove and put in a propane heater. No wood gathering, no chopping, no wood storage, no getting up in the middle of the night to add a log and a lot cleaner inside the cabin, plus you can go away for 3 days in the winter and not worry about your water freezing. Yes, I you have to balance that with the cost of purchasing the heater and the propane.
    Keep up the good work.

I thought of something you may want to address. You mentioned your water barrel had moisture under it. The metal pan will catch what comes off the barrel but I think the moisture will transfer on through the metal pan and could ruin your floor. I would suggest cutting a couple of 2X4s to go under the pan so air can pass under there. I know you said the flooring is waterproof but if it stays wet/damp where it can't dry out that wouldn't be good. Just my thoughts. Y'all have worked so hard on the floor I would hate to see a place ruined if you ever moved the water barrel to another location. Take care.

They forgot the underlayment so yes tho the vinyl is waterproof the OSB or plywood subfloor isn't...
Yes there's a right way to do things, and there's the learning way...
Can't knock them to much, I'm in construction and refurbs and I'm on my second earth build, and I've found that watching just regular people with a goal and drive is worth the watch and entertainment, almost like a teacher watching students work without interference so they can learn at the end why it's wrong...
You can't give a failed grade when they have A+ everywhere else,
Add I've seen grown men in the field do less than half the quality here...
Off grid is about focusing on you family life, not sum time clock, or aggressively corrupted system which says you can't do this...
Just the fact you hear the words IN THE FUTURE with a smile, that's true freedom something that can't be done in society that's for sure...
Today we have a global Corona virus jumping around,
When you off grid you'll probably barely hear about it... Lol

      @Sig220Euro 4 роки тому +3

@@jeromegarcia5396 quite a few of these new vinyl plank floors do not require any underlayment. I put one in one of our kids bedrooms in the fall and it didn't require any underlayment. I would say though if a persons subfloor has big cracks between the sheets or the seams aren't all flat they might want to sand/ shave those down close to even and possibly use something like thinset to help level out any gnarly spots.
Nice job and I really like how your ladder turned out

The floor looks great! I've got a similar floor in some areas of my house. I would recommend using shoe molding around the perimeter of the room and once installed, caulking it at the floor and at the base molding. It's flexible, so it'll conform to the floor and help to cover any gaps along the wall. It also helps to keep out any insects coming up from your floor or around the perimeter. No matter how much you think you've sealed it, they find a way in, lol. The shoe mold will be another layer of protection.

You could pull it up to ceiling when not in use. Lower it to hang clothes on it. Pull it up to ceiling to take advantage of the rising heat of wood stove and to have it out of way. Just an idea!! Our electrical system is a small 1200w unit with 3x 160w panels and 4x 150a/h batteries. Our fridge and stove are both gas (propane). In winter we also have a wood burning stove along with a free standing metal fire place. We love it and would be hard pushed to move back to city life. That's a mighty big throne Pepper has. I would probably use a different model for carried processions... Awe I posted this before I finished the video and had to edit. This morning, I stepped on my shameless, calico Carbon, that spends half her life throwing her self at people's feet, to get them to do her bidding. I thought I might have broken her leg and cried way more than she did. She is okay thankfully! And I really hope Pepper is able to feel better soon.♡

That light color makes it lighter in there. Your dog's look very relaxed. The dogs are like this feels strange on my feet. I hope your cat will get better very soon. That's a great way to make the steps. Oh wow, I live the Christmas lights in the kitchen.

Have you thought of building a drop leaf table where you removed the other one? You could still store things other it and just put up the leaf when you want a dining table. Also, instead of the cellar, you could build on a pantry and can keep it temp controlled. Your renovations look great! It's much lighter and open now.

Thise two huge improvements made the cabin look so much brighter. Seal the pine as the dry heat will crack the pine.

Started watching your videos a couple months ago. Started at the root cellar that I came across. So I had to go back to #1 and watch from the beginning. Lol! So now I'm about up to date with you. Been enjoying watching your journey. Love the scenery of Alaska! The new flooring and ladder look awesome. It's unbelievable how much that new ladder opened the main level up. I'm sure that will seem like you doubled your living space on the main floor. Thanks again for allowing us to tag along on your journey. Have a Blessed Day!

Looking nice and bright. Really opened up your space. The steps were a great idea and you don't have them closed in so the light can continue to pass through. Wow! Your feet will feel a difference as well. Thanks for sharing!

in the table in the kitchen, you guys can add a flap of wood to one side that is kept folded down most of the time and folded up when you guys want a dining table. That way it wont take any space, but it will still be functional, and for stools, if you have stack able ones you can just keep them under the window beside the fridge.

Love the smart approach to building the stairs. Takes a bit of back and forth, but if you're not building stairs on a daily basis that is fine and it takes a lot of the math away AND you know for sure the treads are level for your particular application. Enjoy the new look and functionality! :-)
