  • We complete the wood shed with live edge siding utilizing the Alaskan Chainsaw Mill for a rustic finish. The wood shed will be able to house 8 cords of wood for the upcoming winter and has plenty of room for outdoor tools, making it a great addition to our property.

A great looking, and practical, woodshed guys. The lumber you’ve milled and logs you’ve used will ensure that your shed will last decades longer than something store bought at a fraction of the cost. FYI Costco sells a great solar powered exterior light with 3 separate heads that would be great to cover all 3 sections when out at night. There would be no issues with it surviving the winter as I’ve used the light here in Canada for several winters. I look forward to your next video. Stay safe

As a wood turner i would suggest you both wear a good quality dust mask when milling any wood. Many types of wood are carcinogenic and collect in your lungs. Once there long enough it will cause some unfortunate breakdown of lung tissue, cancers and respiratory failure. It may take years to manifest. Be safe and stay healthy. This project is awesome, great team work.

I’m impressed it’s not easy hanging siding strain down level when you don’t have a straight edge to reference. The building looks nice. You’re going to want to get something between the pallets and the ground because they will rot, I know from experience. Also no mater how cool that bark looks on the back siding get it off -bugs will get in there and cause rot that’s why you don’t see log cabins with bark.

    The shed looks awesome!
I would like to provide two pieces of advice, as civil/construction engineer:
    1. The roof construction is quite slender, not familiar with your climate, and design loads, but I guess that you plan to shovel the roof if there is excessive snowfall. Anyhow, for wind, snow and uneven firewood loads i suggest diagonal cross bracing supporting corner posts on at least three places.
    2. It looked like you used four 4" nails for each wall board. if you are unlucky or if the boards degrade in the ends the stacks might push the boards out. Some stacks seemed to rest on the posts, for others, resting on the board walls you might want to consider a vertical 2 by 6 or something to distribute the load. No need to restack the firewood though, but you could consider it as an extra precaution the next time a section gets empty.
Greetings from a swedish moose hunter!

Beautiful woodshed. You did an amazing job on that one! But one little suggestion - Put on a lockable door to protect your tools. We're 12 miles from you and the other day, we had intruders when we weren't home and they carried off everything that wasn't locked down, including the trash can, the winch off the truck, the firewood cart, and a dolly. They even broke into the outhouse and took the toilet paper holder and two half-burnt candles, which is pretty hilarious, but they also got all my sentimental froggie statuary that was dotted around the place.

looks awesome, I built a similar shed and I put two canvas tarps on the opening so I could part them for easy in and out. I put them on a cable like a shower curtain so you can push them aside when your working or the weather is not bad.

if you overlap the boards, then you don't have gaps between them. You mentioned snow and rain, if you overlap the boards then it's called weatherboarding! Am I missing something? Sorry if I am!

That would really slow down the air flow which is needed to keep the logs dry and mould free. A little rain and snow may get in but not enough to cause a problem.

out of interest what do you use for bar oil? I've started using rapeseed (canola oil for Americans/Canadians) so that i feel fine composting the shavings. I have heard canola oil has trouble in extreme low temps though?

How well does that stay on the chain? Bar oil is formulated to be sticky, like honey is, to stick to the chain, because at high speed regular oil will be flung off the chain at the top of the bar and the bottom (that’s doing the work) doesn’t get enough lubrication, especially on a longer bar.

wouldnt be a bad idea to put a center beam on the 10ft walls. all that movement is going to work those boards loose

I was wondering that too! It looks like the epicenter was about 500 miles south of there. News said the Matsu valley had “mild shaking”, so they should be okay hopefully.
