Grip is the modern spiritual successor to rollcage and is actually really good once you master it. Pool shark was a great pool game that no one really ever mentions
Who remembers Syphon Filter? I used to play those games 20+ years ago. BTW some of these games in your video indeed are hidden gems, because I've never heard of them.
Have to add some of these to my library. Many people didn't liked the PS Classic but I turned mine into my ultimate PlayStation filled with the games I owned and those I love. Thanks for the suggestions Gemma. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Once again reminding you that GRIP released in 2016. There was a brand new Rollcage, it’s on every platform you can think of, it’s really good. Vehicles are a lot more heavy and planted but I think that works with the new physics engine. It was made by Caged Element
There IS an indie spiritual successor to Rollcage, called Grip that was released on PS4 way back in 2018. There is also a 3rd entry in the Rollcage series on PS1 but it was weirdly retooled and rebranded as Firebugs. But if you look at the gameplay footage you'll see it definitely is Rollcage, just with a slightly different skin. The mechanics, weapon powerups and animations are exactly the same. No idea why they abandoned the name Rollcage and the fanbase that came with it, as nobody played Firebugs, probably because even less people knew it had anything to do with Rollcage... Rollcage stage 2 is an amazing game, but when you unlock the fastest cars it's actually too fast and you end up flying off the tracks pretty frequently unless you don't go at the top speeds, which seems to make the top speeds pointless if you can't control the cars. I wish they'd stuck with the Rollcage brand and made a PS2 version on the better hardware. Mechanics like the fact you could drive through the supports of buildings to collapse them on opponents could have been expanded on better hardware. What might have been... Still, it was a fantastic racing series for the PS1 and is ripe for an official remake/reboot. Grip was OK, but felt soulless compared with the PS1 games. I prefer playing Rollcage 2 on an emulator so you can adjust the frame rate and smooth out the graphics, etc.
Urban Chaos is a great shout. Almost certainly wouldn't play as well as I remember, but the ideas, variety and ambition for the hardware deserve a lot of credit.
Love the shout out to Streak Hoverboard Racing. Although it has a steep learning curve, once mastered, it is a fast, fun, one-of-a-kind futuristic racer. Pool Hustler reminded me of Backstreet Billiards which is another really cool story-based pool game where you hustle your way through a shady underworld to solve the mystery of your deceased father's stolen pool cue. Another great PS1 video! Thank you.
One of the biggest hidden gems for PS1 is Disruptor. Better than Doom. The Medal of Honor one is also cool. Its just a complement but today you look very cute.
My personal favorite hidden gem PS1 game is NASCAR Rumble. Don't let the name fool you, the only connection it has to NASCAR are the car skins. You race on normal roads in varied locations with shortcuts, things to smash through, etc. It has a power-up system, but frankly I find it more annoying than fun. Thankfully it can be turned off if you'd rather just have a more traditional race. To me, it seems like the closest the PS1 ever came to having a Burnout game. There was also a semi-sequel to this on the PS2 called Rumble Racing, made by the same developers.
Exhumed, i have an original copy titled "PowerSlave" instead. It's the same game exactly. Lost Vikings, RollCage 2, Project Overkill those are my four picks of your video. Thanks, V.G. forever
What did you do to your tripod? 😄 Seriously though, nice to see some games I’ve genuinely never played like Streak: Hoverboard Racing & some I’d just forgotten like Urban Chaos & Exhumed. I have plaid Fighting Force & do remember hearing about the game’s history back in the day. Fun video thank you, @TheGebs24 & don’t worry, chromakey 3D makes lots of us feel sick & gives us all headaches.
If you've played Jet Moto 1 or 2 (non-Greatest Hits version), then you'll feel right at home with Streak. It was made by the same team that did JM1+2. Plays almost identically.
Ps1 was a weird time. I had fighting force. It was decent but didn't feel like it's a streets of rage style of game which resonates with what you said as a standalone game.
@3:14 and @7:15 - If you haven't played it already, you'd also ❤Die Hard Arcade (Arcade / Sega Saturn). @18:21 - It's a tie between Fighting Force and Urban Chaos! Thank-you, Gemma!
Street skater 2 on the PS1 was a big jump in graphics also carrying over the similar controls and one of the few games that you could pop the disk in a CD player and play the soundtrack library from the game.
Great choices here, my first real memory of Fighting Force was watching my bro and his mate who got it the same Xmas we got the PS1 playthrough it in an evening, sometimes asking if I could give it a try with the same answer: "Nope". I did get to play it later on and it was a great challenge on 1P mode.
After Rollcage, we had another game called FIREBUGS. It featured the songs from Finnish band BOMFUNK MCs, with characters based on them. My hidden gems would be Bugs Bunny Lost In Time and Sheep Dog n' Wolf.
I love fighting force after re 1-3 from fighting force is my favorite ps1 game and one of the best beat em ups ever for me the only nest em up thsts up there with fighting force is streets of rage
Having played Diablo III for the past 10 years and now currently sinking all my time into Diablo IV, I could have kicked myself when I recently realised that Diablo was on actually on the PS1. Another PS1 game where I'm thinking how the hell did this pass me by.
wow i remember streak .... wasn't very well known back at the time either i don't think. a few years ago i tried to find it again and had a hard time trying to google it cause i couldn't remember the name! 😅
Some interesting games there I've not heard of, never seen that hover board one B4, remember playing Back to the future 2 on my mates c64 with the 1st level on the hover boards, hogs of war is definitely a hidden gem, a very funny worms like 3d game with pigs from different countries all voiced by the great Rik Mayall, gets quite challenging as it goes on, it is awesome on multi player with a group of friends all taking turns.
I remember when Fighting force came out I was looking forward to it because it was advertised as coming to the Sega Saturn but they cancelled. That aside I felt this game to be a huge step back from older 2D beatemups because all of the playable charachters played the same and had no unique moves. Also there was a rollcage spiritual successor called Grip: Combat racing
never seen Streak Hoverboard before but I loved Trickstyle on Dreamcast. Pool Hustler was great, much better than the PS1 version of Virtual Pool IMO, and we have mentioned Street Sk8r before 'MEDIC' :), you could put the disc in a regular cd player and listen to the soundtrack.
I remember exhumed and remember the very complimentary praise the magazines gave it, which made me want to play it ... but when I did play it, I just ended up getting stuck !!!
I like Fighting Force, but I must admit, as a recently acquired game for me, I'm still struggling to advance forwards through the game, I rarely get past the building part at the beginning of the game and the 2nd level by the streets after you beat the twin girls at the 1st act. I'm still not sure what the game's story is, as it simply starts by throwing you straight into the gatehouse to beat up the first few enemies.
Hi and cheers. Project Overkill. Sadly never heard of it here in Germany. It looks good. PS1 usually had a bad resolution so that many 2D titles didn't look good on the system. Did this game have a special higher resolition? Many interesting games. Most of themt I didn't play or didn't even know. I wish you a happy and good evening.
Fighting Force, really ??? No wonder Sega turned it down, not a great game. I wouldn't say it's an hidden gem, it's well know. And far from being a gem. I would call it a well known below average game.
I dont agree with that contra game on this list the ps1 contra games are hot doo doo shit in my opinion everything else is some good picks except the contra game like i said
Can’t believe Future Cop LAPD never comes up on these hidden gem lists. 100% needs more love
Agreed!👍
Also Re-volt fun racer
What a gaaaaaaame 🤌
Thanks for this 😃
@@TheGebs24If you enjoyed overkill you will like it deffo! Absolute carnage 😂
Grip is the modern spiritual successor to rollcage and is actually really good once you master it.
Pool shark was a great pool game that no one really ever mentions
i hate grip! i spent my childhood on rollcage!
Who remembers Syphon Filter? I used to play those games 20+ years ago. BTW some of these games in your video indeed are hidden gems, because I've never heard of them.
Ah, memories of setting people on fire with the taser! So much guilty pleasure fun!

I got a few of these on True Blue mini stick's I bought for PS classic only things that made it worth having

The Dreamcast version was better... but still not a great game. Aged very poorly.

Disrupter. I’ll check that out. Thank you ☺️
Have to agree with you. Disruptor really is a great game. I still have it in my collection. Also loved Exhumed.
Great video! I loved Loded and Re-Loaded but never knew about Project Overkill. Just picked it up today because of your video. Cheers
Game footage seems to be all in 16:9 aspect ratio instead of the correct 4:3. Is it a capture/rendering/UA-cam issue or do you play the games in 16:9?
pool hustler reminds me of how much i hope GTA VI has a large selection of well crafted mini games
Whenever I watch these videos I always end up adding more games to my wish lists lol. Awesome episode gem
My personal favorite hidden gem PS1 game is NASCAR Rumble. Don't let the name fool you, the only connection it has to NASCAR are the car skins. I had both Street Skater games on PS1 and had a lot of fun with them too.
Used to play Crisis Beat, a Fighting Force alike, and love it!
Fighting Force is a great two player game to play with friends & mates! Great video Gebs!😎
I love Fighting Force❤ I bet NTSC version works much faster...
Exhumed, i have an original copy titled "PowerSlave" instead. It's the same game exactly. Lost Vikings, RollCage 2, Project Overkill those are my four picks of your video. Thanks, V.G. forever

There is a GRIP game that is the same as rollcage even the same people :)
Awesome Video! I wanna check out Hoverboard Racing
You won’t be disappointed
While all my friends were getting ps2 for Christmas, I got streak lol. I've never heard anyone else even mention that game!
I had Project Overkill back in the day and I had a lot of fun playing it
@3:14 and @7:15 - If you haven't played it already, you'd also ❤Die Hard Arcade (Arcade / Sega Saturn).

I did enjoy the Street Skater games, but I haven't played Rollcage.
Street skater 2 on the PS1 was a big jump in graphics also carrying over the similar controls and one of the few games that you could pop the disk in a CD player and play the soundtrack library from the game.
Rollcage is great. GRIP is a Rollcage sequel, not as good though imo but it's solid.
I found an oldie on Xbox last night...can you recall a game called zero tolerance...it's a doom FPS shooter I used to play it loads in the 90s.
Great selection there. Another great hidden gem on the PS1 for you is Evil Zone. It's a really fun Japanese anime style fighting game.
Thanks for watching Alan

currently grinding emulators in the steam deck, so these lists help a lot - thank you.
Finally someone else who enjoyed Contra on ps1
I love fighting force after re 1-3 from fighting force is my favorite ps1 game and one of the best beat em ups ever for me the only nest em up thsts up there with fighting force is streets of rage
OMFG PROJECT OVERKILL IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SLEPT ON PS1 GAMES 👍🏼👍🏼
Ahh…urban chaos what a game many a spent days smashing that game out, nice little list some great titles in there Gemma👏
Check out the N64 version of Fighting Force 😀
Yeah, i would say it's a better version of the game. Still not that great (no wonder Sega turned it down)
Lol.... you said Amiga. Loved that platform.
Having played Diablo III for the past 10 years and now currently sinking all my time into Diablo IV, I could have kicked myself when I recently realised that Diablo was on actually on the PS1. Another PS1 game where I'm thinking how the hell did this pass me by.
Hoverboard racing reminds me of Jet Moto… kinda… not as smooth as Jet Moto
wow i remember streak .... wasn't very well known back at the time either i don't think. a few years ago i tried to find it again and had a hard time trying to google it cause i couldn't remember the name! 😅
also did anybody else like the "puzzle" levels from rollcage 2? that's the part i remember the most from that game
The only game on this list I played was fighting force which I beat several times by myself and with my sister
I remember when Fighting force came out I was looking forward to it because it was advertised as coming to the Sega Saturn but they cancelled.

Have you ever played Jet Moto 1 or 2? Streak was made by the same guys that did those games. Plays very similarly.
I remember exhumed and remember the very complimentary praise the magazines gave it, which made me want to play it ... but when I did play it, I just ended up getting stuck !!!
Very good game but i would recommend the Saturn version over the PlayStation.
Very good game but i would recommend the Saturn version over the PlayStation.
I love hidden gems videos
Actually there was another hoverboard game on PS1 called Psybadeck, it was just really bad
I like Fighting Force, but I must admit, as a recently acquired game for me, I'm still struggling to advance forwards through the game, I rarely get past the building part at the beginning of the game and the 2nd level by the streets after you beat the twin girls at the 1st act.

I didnt have many ps1 games at the time, but I enjoyed the few I had ... aww ...
another awesome ps1 gaming video gemma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Is Urban Chaos related to the Rocksteady fps a few years later? I loved that game
just when decided to look up exhumed to compare for powerslave u said it lol
13:50 Me: Man, this game looks exactly like -
15:33 Aaaand that would be why. 😅
Urban chaos looks good but the draw distance looks like a hinderance.
I don’t believe so no. Thanks for watching
Try get a copy of Future Cop LAPD I Loved it 👍
Fighting Force is better when played with another player just like Gekkido.
Powerslave I remember downloading a demo of on PC when I was 10, and thinking it was mind blowing
Omega Boost is a hidden gem
Never heard of these before 😮 overkill is defo my favourite ❤❤
Brev Project Overkill is bliss ❤️❤️❤️
I didn't know this game. Thanks Gebs 😉 Greetings from Italy 😄
You are most welcome
They tried advertising Grid As the new rollcage game. I am offended and £30 down!!!!!
Urban chaos is a great game on the ps1
Ain’t that the truth
Very debatable but... Fighting Force, really? I don't know anyone who hasn't played it, it's impossible
That be me then, not heard of it until now and I had a lot of PS1 games.
Fighting Force was my 32 bit replacement of Streets of Rage 2 back then (ironically Rage 2 has actually aged better in 2023)
I can’t describe the fun my brother and I had on this game
Fighting Force, really ??? No wonder Sega turned it down, not a great game. I wouldn't say it's an hidden gem, it's well know. And far from being a gem. I would call it a well known below average game.
You are a gaming goddess.
Sorry not been around much been bad with my mental health .
Hi Heath. Remember that we love you. Stay strong and remember to take the little wins you have each day xx
I dont agree with that contra game on this list the ps1 contra games are hot doo doo shit in my opinion everything else is some good picks except the contra game like i said
Sry but there is nothing. gem about street skater its a shit game period....
That is such a hidden gem, Project Overkill. Never heard of that game. I need to find that game in the wild now. 🐱
