Exploring Used PS1 Memory Cards And Finishing Their Save Files

- Опубліковано 1 лип 2024
- Let's go back to where it all started: The original PlayStation and those beautiful little gray memory cards. I recently bought a handful of used PS1 memory cards with the goal of exploring those original save files. And maybe, just maybe, we can play their games where they left off over 25 years ago. Are you ready for those gorgeous warping 3D models? I am. So strap yourselves in everyone, because it's about to get NOSTALGIC. And perhaps even a little silly.

Can’t wait to see people claiming some of these were their save files lol
KoK is Knockout Kings mate 😉👍
Please more of these and more ps2 memory cards🙏
The gran turismo is actually mine, even though I never owned and played a PS1 because I was born in 2008🌚🌚🌚
Nope. I still have all my PS1 and PS2 memory cards.
Hey, thanks for completing my save file…in the form of this video. Always love watching you complete these for others!
Is this gonna be a on going thing? Buying used memory cards and finishing the games? Because I’m all for it. You should do a live stream ending some of the games.
I think this is the second video. :)
Yes, I hope it becomes a recurring series (it seems is becoming one).
Ryan's best videos are these nostalgia ones like this or the ones where he plays old PS3 games to see who's still playing.
There’s not many more consoles he could do it for. GameCube had memory cards but what else did?
100%

PS1 memory cards bring back so many memories. I remember when I first had a game console and didn't have a memory card. Those were the days. Childhood innocence. ❤
i remember having to finish the entire shadow the hedgehog in one sitting cause i only had a 16mb memory card and that buggy ass game could only detect 8mb cards
Yeah, and putting a towel over the console so parents don't notice it's running over night... stupid kid me did stupid things. Took me 3 days to finish Rage Racer.
Got a weird fascination with this sort of thing, looking at peoples old saves / characters they’ve made. I can’t be the only one ?
I’d forgotten all about the Create Skatepark feature of Tony Hawk. Me and my brothers used to design mazes using walls and spike pits, and leave them for each other to solve haha
I completely forgot about it also until watching this! Talk about nostalgia!
When i used to rent games from the local video store i had to rent a memory card most times too and it would always be cool to see what other players were playing. It was like an unwritten rule to not delete anything unless you had to.
Its amazing after all these years that data is still readable and playable
me: hell yeah frogger was my favorite growing up! can't wait to see Ryan play it
*Ryan plays 0% of Frogger*
It's so odd and wonderful seeing this: at some point in time someone poured hours into these games. Creating memories.
Yet for some reason never actually finished the games.
@@vectoralphaAI life happens ...
then again there were games we like to play just for the experience, completion was never an mandatory thing, instead playing and enjoying is
came to the point of not even waning the game so starting a game is pointless because there is nothing to start let alone finish ...
Please continue this series is amazing. It's also nostalgic, and you wonder where are these people now
Whoever did that FFVII file knew not to use knights of the round in the buildup to the crater. I cant remember the exact rules on it but using it earlier screws you over
The legend of Pissed off Dan: Shredding the Gnar into forever. The deepest lore.
Oh I recognized that MOHU icon immediately. Medal of Honor Underground, what an amazing game.
Also, seeing all those saves made me realize that there has been a time when people played those games on maybe even on daily basis and then one day, it was the last time they turned it on and they probably didn't even know it. You know, maybe they made the save file and thought they will continue again tomorrow but then they never did.
Underground was fantastic
Original MoH duology is all-time classic and way better than PS3-era bastardization sequels. Its development documentary is a movie of its own. Now what's left of its development studio is ruining Battlefield.
Miss the little animated icons for the ps1 and ps2 saves. I still have unused PSM memory card stickers as well, the ones i have stuck on my ps1 memory cards. I really miss the ps1 and ps2 eras, such nostalgia.
I'm surprised we didn't see that many if any resident evil 1 & 2 and MGS 1 save games!
At least saves of RE2 from 5:28 seem to be from endgame and fully cleared game. Too bad he did not load them to beat the true final boss and check out unlockable bonus modes. And it also was true canon ending with Leon's scenario 2.
Nostalgia overload. Truly moments captured in time. So much time and effort, frustration and exhilaration captured in those cards. Well done
it makes me wonder if maybe one of my memory cards is in some of these "old saves" videos.
Would love to see more Gran Turismo replays, since people thought they were so good they are worth saving. Also too bad Final Fantasy VII characters were default named, always fun to see what names everybody give to them :)
I had a red one for my PlayStation I was so young but I have such fond memories. Especially with the Army Len game. I remember that game because you play as those little plastic army guys.
this MUST be an on going series man
So mind blowing about the GT replays. They never knew over 150k people would see those a couple of decades later on the internet.
Ryan this sure was another great trip down memory lane! I really enjoyed the last video exploring the used PS2 save files and so one had to be done for PS1. Man these memory card saves were some of PlayStations finest titles that made for a really good time. It really makes me want to buy a lot of PS1 and PS2 memory cards to see what lays dormant on them just waiting to be finished! It's also a fun way to learn about other games you may of not been aware of.
It was so exciting to see Kutztown pop up in a save file honestly, out of the MILLIONS of memory cards you got one that was somewhat close to my corner of the globe and I think that’s pretty neato.
Imagine casually being on UA-cam and you see this video and it’s someone playing your super old game save that you forgot about lol
Keep it going Mystic, great content as always 🙌
This should be a series! I loved this, I'm surprised it hasn't blown up yet. Next is PS2?
He already did a PS2 video of the same thing a couple months ago
This is such a cool concept for video series! Please continue! It’s really intriguing to think about all these save files: to whom did they belong to, when and where did the player live, what was their life like when they played these games etc etc. Such a cool little time capsule!
So many memories on those. I spent a lot of my youth on those same games with my brother. It's bitter sweet to have a glimpse back into such a memorable era.
i miss doing this, as a kid i needed a memory card. and i needed a cheap one so i bought used all the time. the first time i plugged one in and saw games i never even knew about set me up for a lifetime of exploration. love this content man
Thank you for %117 Spyro 3 😌Spyro is a part of my childhood (obviously) and still is a part of my life, makes me happy to see people still enjoying it! Especially on the week of the 25th anniversary
I remember I left mine at a friends house and he moved to another state so I didn’t have one but when I got one from a local pawn shop it had some save files for crash! Loved that you played some games from the saves!
As for the Gran Turismo part, he had all bronzes on the B License. It’s just the minimum to unlock races.
I always loved the idea that you could take your safe file copy it to any memory card, play it with any copy of the same game and on any console. No restrictions what so ever.
It's awesome that you uploaded this today, because just last night I was watching an old home video of 9-year-old me getting my first PlayStation for Christmas in 1997.
Nice, another one of these :3
Always interesting to see what other people have played before :D
Hope you have a fantastic day Ryan
One of the best original ideas in the gaming space straight up
This is the most cool UA-cam video I've ever seen. I almost wanted to cry seeing this and I don't know why. This was super fun to watch. Thanks for this upload! I subscribed because this was so awesome lmao.
This is a great content idea. Imagine the stories behind all those playthrough. Good memories! GB
Awesome idea. I beat ff7 every year since its release. I am 41. My favorite game of all time.
Love this kind of content!
I really loved watching this video! It's really nice seeing people's saves from years ago... it's really kind of you honest to finish them for them when they haven't been able to... so many memories for the players and the viewers as well! I'd really love to see more of these videos of different saves if you ever go for it again! Maybe different consoles too, like Gamecube or PS2?
Fun fact about PS1 mem cards I didn't discover until recently: Files don't get truly deleted, just marked as such until it gets overwritten w/ another save.
I know this standard w/ HDDs, but I didn't expect it on PS1 since it's usually a crapshoot trying to recover deleted files on flash memory.
The XStation's memory card manager is the way I found out and it can recover any "deleted" file. So even seemingly empty cards can be fully recovered. The official bios also has a recover feature, but I believe it only works immediately after you delete the file.
This is such an awesome idea. I’ve always loved the idea of finishing used pokemon game save files but never got round to it.
I played many of these amazing classic PlayStation 1 games. I love Final Fantasy 7 , Crash Bandicoot , Spyro and other amazing games shown in these memory cards. This was interesting and wonderful to see so many retro games It's like time capsules of a cooler time in gaming. Cool video. ^_^
It’s nice seeing you complete some of the games I grew up on 👍🏾👍🏾.
This was super neat! It would've been interesting to see if the FF7 save had also beaten Ruby and Emerald weapons, and maybe their records at the Gold Saucer. But that would've required that long ass trek out of the Northern Crater.
You should do more of these!
I love watching these flashback content . Just brings back so many good memories. Love your work Mystic. GG's.
👍 👍 👍
I used to do this too back in the day. Also used to buy the old pokemon games used and see what previous trainers teams were used and PC boxes were full.
As an RPG guy, it warms the heart to see those FF and Suikoden save files.
Same...
This was a trip down memory lane!
PS1 and PS2 memory cards are in fact region free
I just want hundreds of these videos. Opening up a snapshot of a person's life in the PlayStation just seems so romantic to me.
Can’t believe you didn’t get the skill points! I’ve completed those games so many times now but they are so fun and I keep coming back to them. Spyro 2 is my favorite though
You said “I may have only played this on pc” and immediately remembered that my parents bought me this as a kid from the staples checkout line. Then after seeing the gameplay, all the memories flooded back. Absolutely glad I got to get a peek at that again. Great content!
Watching this i now want to replay my Spyro games. ❤❤❤ very cool idea bud to get other people's cards and try finishing. Love this!
26:00 thanks for the perfect jump cut scare, mystic
Loved the last episode and I’m sure this will be great again watching it right now.
Never thought that I will see this kind of videos. But I enjoyed.
I love these types of videos. Good stuff Ryan
1st time coming across your channel. I'm digging it. You had me at Spyro! My top PS game for sure. The best.
Nice, I was hoping you were doing a video like this! Thanks!
Love this series
I love this concept. Very nice idea !!
Itd be really cool to see you actually playing these as you beat them.
Was happy to see some Abe's Oddysee save files. Bummed about no gameplay. Such a great IP.
This was super entertaining! Thanks. I've got a small drawer full of memory cards I haven't checked...
Been on my recommendations for a while, and just now clicking on this. Can't believe my man didn't recognize Medal of Honor: Underground. I've got quite a collection of my own, it's fun to go back, reminisce and play "proper" games from time to time. Some of them have aged like fine wine, some of them not so much :D
Love these videos. Kinda curious how you transferred save slots from the PS1 memory cards over to your PS3
You can get a memory card adapter for the ps3 to use PS1/2 memory cards. Pretty obscure and probably rare today.
Spyro 3 is one of my favorites too
PSM was the BEST video game magazine! God I miss them! Those lid and memory card stickers were awesome.
This is SUCH a good idea!
Bro your face when the PSX logo boots Killed me LOL !
2:15 - MOHU = Medal of Honor Underground... Love It!!!
What a fun idea for a video!
I don't think it ever occurred to me to resell memory cards. Mine probably are wherever my PlayStation 2 ended up. I would love to say I still have it somewhere but I'm pretty sure I either sold it or tossed it. I remember having a bunch of money cards and a handwritten list keeping track of what was on each one.
High quality content rh much respect 😤👌
LOVED THIS!
That frogger game was my second ps1 game, damn that brings back memories seeing that op and menu
I just love looking at the actual save icons, i wish their was a way to see what every ps1 and ps2 games save icons looked like.
Wait nobody's made a list of that yet?
Not that i'm aware of@@erichlee3305
Crazy idea man! And I love it!
Love these type of videos hope to see another 👍
This is such a cool video man!
I had a neon green transparent one like that, great memories
Basically like a digital time capsule. This was so fascinating. Not sure what people thought of this video who didn’t grow up with these games
Was surprised to hear Kutztown. I used to go to a fleamarket out in Kutztown pretty often.
PS1 was my favorite console ever before getting Vita and Switch and realizing handheld gaming is better for me but I hated PS1's memory cards. It lost my files during blackouts.
Multiple times, I had to completely restart a game. Maybe at least 3 or 4x. I sometimes ended up taking out the memory card after I play a game. Only inserting it after I turn on the PS1. Probably got corrupted from electric currents from the outlet. And be careful to play when it's raining.
While my PS2, Xbox, and GameCube never did that once. Thank goodness for emulators on Android smartphones. Listen, I miss the 90s. Nostalgia is bittersweet and all. But I love my current devices now.
PS1 is where i started my gaming journey. I love it to death.
Going back and completing people's unfinished business from decades past is such a dope idea for a video. Feelgood nostalgia and completionism, there's something everyone can enjoy. Hope it might be an ongoing series, there's a lot of potential there! Also nice lmao 9:10 ♿
Nut.
Lol hope you make this a series!
The nostalgia in this video ❤️ played almost all of these games to death
Also I never knew mark cerny was a producer for crash 1
Should do a series on this. Have people send you their cards to finish.
Anyone remember MadCatz memory cards? Those were some of the most volatile memory cards ever lol.
I had one which had 4 "pages". You pressed a tiny button on the card to get to the next 12 memory slots!
I found one of these memory cards once and it had a Colin McRae Rally save with all bonus cars unlocked (especially the Ford RS200)
The radioshack clear one sounds like what i had as a kid. It didn't keep memory once unplugged from system. I unplugged it once and lost my moms spyro save. Sad day.
16:28
I see you found Regular Car Reviews save file
Happy to see blazing dragons. That’s one of my favorites and I feel like no one talks much about it.
Love this such a good idea
Medal of Honor was awesome. I remember playing it when it first came out. Great video.
I love these videos!
KOK I would assume is Knock Out Kings, another EA title.
MOHU is Medal of honor underground (EA again)
Awesome ...btw what do you do with the memory cards after ?
Such a great idea!
The one save was for a THPS3 park - Kutztown Park. I live about 40 minutes away from Kutztown in Pennsylvania lol pretty cool. I wonder how pissed off dan is doing 😂
I am pretty sure that Final Fantasy Tactics is a rare that has special unlocked game data , items, summons, and saves that are normally not available through regular play. Think of it as kind of a precursor to DLC. I am not 100% sure though, as the only one I have ever seen was for Final Fantasy VII.
