EVGA's KINGPIN and TiN have one of the coolest labs in the industry. The shop is filled with customized XOC tools, like IHS direct die frames, custom sockets for die sanding, prototype video cards and PCBs, one-off video cards, liquid nitrogen tanks, and more. In this tour, K|NGP|N and TiN walk us through the equipment on display, old products (like EV Bot), and upcoming projects that were secret until now.
If you've been wondering if direct die cooling or CPU lapping are worth it, KINGPIN answers that in this video. If you've been wondering how motherboards are made and designed, TiN talks about some of the electrical engineering and circuit chasing processes.

This video was everything I wanted it to be!
Very interesting vid Steve. A big thanx to EVGA for allowing the tour, and of coarse a shout out to TIN and The KING for showing us their lairs. I have to admit my work area is just as chaotic........ BUT, I know where everything is so that's all that matters. Hopefully it's true when they say 'a genius lives on a mental knifes edge' eh? ^___^
New T-shirt idea, 'RECORD DONE" TIN Great Episode!
Gamers Nexus damn when you guys picked up the SR-2 I was hoping that you'd talk so much more about it because Im trying to buy one for my daily 😂😂😂
This is freaking stellar. THIS IS WHY I WATCH THIS CHANNEL. The in-depth coverage is literally supreme.
Thank you! Lots of fun filming this.

"Vince is just going to walk me through..."
Too soon Steve, too soon....
Once I was at an airport bar waiting for a flight drinking a craft brew that cost something crazy like $12, the guy sitting next to me(dressed like a blues/rock artist with leather jacket and hat) asks me how much the beer cost me. I respond with a friendly chuckle "It cost me and arm and a leg"...the gentleman says " I guess I can't afford that then" and he rotates his bar stool towards me to reveal he is missing his right arm.....
What did Vince do yo himself?
@@Rexolaboy dang 😧
That was awesome! I missed it when watching lol
When tech jesus drops by, shoots a video and magically fixes your broken leg in the process.
wtf i didn't even notice till i read this comment
Its a miracle! 🙌🏿

It's the hair doing its magic

"Don't do this at home". Damn I had my ultrasonic cleaner ready to go and everything.
Hehe
I remember using one of these at college when I was cleaning tektites before putting in a mass spec. You needed something really clean for the spectrometer. It really worked.
Point's of note.
1. Probably best not to get your fingers in the liquid ...
2. Imagine it on dishwashing rather than 20th C dishwashers.
Lol when he said IPA during the cleaning bit I was like "wtf why would you clean with beer? That's just silly"
"Oh wait... IsoPropylAlcohol... That's a thing isn't it"
I don't drink, but watching too much AwesomeHardware made me think the same.
My thoughts exactly.
Yep, same here, I'm like "he didn't mean beer now, did he?"
lol, yeah cleaning anything with Indian Pale Ale got me too...🤦♂️😂😂😂
Haha of course, I knew that from the start!
_discretely removes motherboard from tub of craft beer_
Looks like a Mafia Tour in a High Tech Drug-Lab.
Tech Jesus need only lay his hands on Vince for the crutches to be set aside.
Matthew 5: Jesus heals a crippled man.
"All hail Stevie B. and his amazing powers!"
I hear he could heal himself if he wanted, but he wanted the mere mortal experiences of crutches and motrin.
2 types of overclockers, ones that clean their board with specialized equipment, and the other who puts their boards in the dishwasher....
Vince healed in 34 minutes.
Hallelujah!
Tech Jesus was there! Low key actually real jesus.
It is called human body overclocking...

hahah tin always messes them up... always at computex tin and i laugh about it when we bench together... slackers..
He really is rough with hardware. Lmao. I find it hilarious and I've adopted his methods.
@@GregorysBrain IT is not fragile... no need for cotton gloves but you do not want to Hulk smash either.
@@wobblysauce I'm well aware. I've benched with TiN. It's just funny watching him bench sometimes and then watching others freaking out about wearing anti-static wristbands. 😂
@@GregorysBrain HA... the livestongs.
@@GregorysBrain static strap nerds are cute, Im old so i keep a bare screw on the PSU to touch, on modern hardware that tends to be an overabundance of caution already XD.
Was just looking at the 3D Mark charts today and saw Kingpin at the top all over the place. So this is the dude? Respect!
I had a Classified SR-2 system for nearly 7 years, one of the best boards I've ever owned and I still have it on my wall today. Awesome to see a mangled one ready for LN2!
This whole series has been an eye opener for me and most informative. Thanks to everyone concerned for making this happen with such an honest open approach. Excellent...
We use ipa in our ultrasonic cleaners at work and those fumes are no joke. They are overwhelming when its running and especially when you open it.
Steve is so happy ! Great video !!! I really liked this behind the scenes look. These guys are modern day mad scientist. very cool.
I love the machining. First class but not flashy. Great video, I am late to the party (as usual) but very much appreciate the effort put into this. Thank you.
Evga is awesome to deal with as a customer. A lot of other vendors could learn a lot from them.
Wish there was more content with Tin! He seems very interesting.
You can find stuff I do on free time at home here: ua-cam.com/users/xDevscom_EE :) (it's not overclocking related).
Kingpin is going for the Antonio Banderas look now?
Interview with a vampire.
more like The Samurai?
I was more curious about the hair than the crutches lol
Actually I think he's 1980's Antonio Banderas smarter brother.
25:16 The Moment you come up with a totally ridiculous & unfeasible idea and your counterpart just abroves, you know that you are in tech heaven! 😍
These guys don't know the word unfeasible.

I built my pc in 2012 with an asus gtx 680 4gb DCII but was on the fence between it and the 680 classified. Seeing that card brings back memories of my first pc build and endlessly pouring over reviews nervously cause I was so new to everything.
Awesome video!! So many great products have come to market due to the hard work of a few dedicated individuals behind the scenes pushing products to their absolute limit. Thanks to K|NGP|N & TiN for all y'all do, and thanks you Steve for bringing us into the lab with you! Love this channel!!
That motherboard signals map though. A+ content.
GN Award Crystal front and center in the display case. :D
As it should be, well deserved award too
You know he put that in their 20m before GN got there. It's usually just kept in a cupboard. LOL
I felt much better after watching this video. Good vibes!
Is TiN a giant or is Steve a secret midget?
Steve is a secret midget there's a video of him standing next to Jay when they were at LTX who is a giant and makes Steve look very small
@@XDbored1 Jay is indeed quite tall. Linus, derbauer and Steve have the average height, I'm guessing something like ~5.8 may be?
@@zade6828 I thought linus was like 5'6 though
@@misterio10gre that could be true, that's why I was approximating.
@@XDbored1 Jay is definitely big, he did a video with Terry Crews and he made Terry look normal size.
Just now watching this. How did I miss this Tech Jesus/KP mashup? Dang.. so cool to see inside and behind the scenes.
You have the best hardware youtube channel..I really enjoy these behind the scenes videos!
"Power Wizard" sounds like an excellent offensive RPG class haha
Nice video. Love seeing the labs. Tin is a super nice guy and very knowledgeable, he helped me quite a bit back in the 780-980 erra despite the fact I was not using evga stuff.
LOVE this style of coverage!
extremely awesome, i remember reading kingpins posts on xtremesystems and it was the reason i joined. miss that place.
13:14: that is the most kick ass oscilloscope ive EVER seen. Didnt even know they made them this good
This was great!
As someone who uses a lot of EVGA stuff, I find this especially interesting :)
Really cool!
Thanks so much for this, I enjoyed every minute.
TiN's sweatshirt looks ultra extreme comfortable + raytracing
Next EVGA card should be called "KING-TIN"..
Cris Meman did you finish the video yet?
Why not TinKing?
Vince aint doing much of walking you through it... Sorry xD
It was a bit annoying how Steve kept needing to move things along with "and what about..." "and how about this..." "want to talk about this?"
@@umbra1016 this⬆️⬆️
Maybe because he thinks that its not much a huge deal but then for others it really is. I know how that feels. I dont think its his fault. Some people just like their space and think what they do is good enough for them and not be too flashy.
@@ark_knight Well Kingpin and Tin get paid to overclock, not to be great hosts.
It was like watching antiques road show with Huel Houser
Tin looks so proud when he's talking about the sr2 board. You can tell he's a guy who loves his job.
The concept board for the Xeon W-3175X was really cool to see, as I'm sure that's what they've used in their Port Royal runs with the 3090s.
He overclocked his crutches into a new set of legs
fvcking Amazing
omg , the sound blew my speakers out, didnt expect that.
i guess thats the price i have to pay for knowledge
@Peter yep , i guess the frequencies there arent safe for some equipment
So glad Vince agreed to do a tour
wow, did not know they are so grounded and cool. thx for introducing the two to us!
2100mhz on that GTX 680, that is madness!
That's super sick!
This is the kind of content I come here for!
So Vince sold Vince a Slapchop. Now that is comedy gold.
I'm surprised Steve didn't know what it was. Those stupid infomercials were everywhere.
12:16 The monitor displays the story of my life🤔
Interesting😂
Ultrasonic cleaner part was a missed opportunity for a dishwasher joke
Black pcb and the gold is pure eye candy
Without people like TiN and KP no one would try to push the limit. Thank you for the tour Steve and cast.
Awesome guys with awesome jobs!
EVGA Thank you for your Graphics card overclocking software. PrecisionX
Vince with slap chop, slapping our troubles away
I have never overclocked but watching this sure does interest me and anyone who thumbs down this video is a complete weenie
a quote comes to mind - "If a cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind, of what, then, is an empty desk a sign?" - Einstein
I like how this is where some of the best overclocking is done but the work area is an organized disaster.
It makes me feel like my desk is as it should be.
They seems really cool
kingpin and tin are such legends; i grew up reading forums where they both posted trying to learn as much as I could. I am glad to see them still going strong after so many years.
10:54 That black anodized aluminum heat sink with the copper base (CNC'd flat) is not something they made! TiN calls it "prototyping parts", they may use it for their own prototype testing, but it itself is a product from almost 20 years ago. It is an air cooler for socket A (462) (Athlon-XP, Duron). I think by swiftech. I have one somewhere...
Really great tour, you defo got a sub and like and this is just the second upload I've viewed.
The sonic cleaner part took a few seconds to register the IPA. No idea why but I've always just used ISO.
Nice tour!!!
Did KINGPIN overclock his leg to heal by the end of the tour?
Steve: Twenty Minutes
Vince: Two ten minute cycles
He was reiterating that it was 2 cycles, from his previous statement.
@@etherealmistlc I know..... It sounded funny that Vince was being more precise r/whoosh
it's all in the details
@@jakehancock2888 Probably my fault, I always switch Vince's DMMs to most sensitive and precise range, like 2000mV instead of leaving at 20V for 1V measure :D.
If Buildzoid had all this he could go full mad scientist
that sr3 dark was a game changer. I’m running it in a workstation these days.
Plot Twist
Kingpin is Antonio Banderas
's smaller brother
I imagine because his name is Vince and the guy that did the infomercial for the Slap Chop was Vince Offer...an interesting character to say the least.
awesome tour
I wanted to find out who kingpin is, ended up here.
Whoa!! Same here!!!
3 for 3
4 for 4
5 for 5
27:15 "...we wanted to support normal CPUs..." *namedrops Xeon Gold and Xeon Platinum*
how did kingpin manage to walk without his clutches at the end? did the 2 cycles of washing heal his broken leg?
This is good youtube! Thanks GN!
Thing that amazes me is just how ordinary the lab is, Just looks like the lab of any electrotechnician or engineer
3:09 Cavitation Bubbles. They're like those little guys in the Scrubbing Bubbles commercials, except angrier. And suicidal.
Kingpin's hair is more glorious than Steve's. I said it.
Man, I wish I had an overclocking lab. Or really any kind of lab honestly.
That is not how it works. I mean, it works, but is not how one would build together a lab.
Steve, It would have been nice if you took Buildzoid with you.
One of the top 10 Gamers Nexus videos of all time. Great behind the scene looks. And is it just me, or does Vince look like he runs an evil Dojo on the side? I dig it.
Lol, EVGA is making a "reasonable" 3175X board.
G Dante then buy directly from nvidia who offers only one option.
@G Dante you don't like them having too many options?
@G Dante not buying EVGA because there's too many options is stupid. And Asus has a lot more than two options, like strix, dual, expedition, Phoenix, unbranded ones and so on
@G Dante and the reason is ? fewer selection than EVGA so it doesn't make your head dizzy?
Assus warranty is everything but good but I am forced to purchase their motherboards as they are have best UEFI BIOS by far.
In spite of King Pins mild demeanor - You can tell he's a Dare Devil - I spent time on crotches too ;o)
Nice video. Congratulations!
3:52 if you think that IPA is dangerous, imagine drinking 4 and then making any decision
They meant Isopropyl Alcohol when they said IPA, pretty sure drinking it is lethal.
That was Amazing! I keep checking to see if you have new stuff for this trip posted (F5 Key Wearing out) lol
This is the best tech channel on UA-cam right now, especially being THE most in-depth. also think its cool they let you film unreleased products.
Kingpin is the final boss of overclocking.
I wonder where Vince gets the IPA. In Taiwan, you can't find it anywhere. In States its everywhere, drugstores, Walmart, Target... I had to bring a bottle back with me from the US.
Holy crap. EVGA HQ is down the street from me in New Taipei.
Ha! There it is my future gpu pot, hope it gets in the store soon 😁
It's neat that the ultrasonic'd motherboard looks like a Z390 Dark but with a green PCB; preproduction?
Yes. Preproduction!
This lab looks a lot like Dr. Isaac Kleiner's lab from Half-Life 2.
well, isaac Kleiner's lab was predominantly inspired by an electrical engineers lab, since most look the part
Buildzoid would killfor a tour like that D: (with a personal made Kingpin PCB made only in 5 cards XD)
02:40 "i can show you how to use it"
Kingpin dude, Steve just broke your legs....
Don´t you have ove for your arms?

IPA yes that is industry standard name for it. I work in semiconductor so I get the purest 100%. Love that stuff. Cant use it without gloves though. THIS VIDEO is GREAT. Steve is like a kid in a candy shop
14:20 When you have a clamp that looks like an Auto 9
Amazing stuff!! Love it.
Damn. You guys are on a whole other level from any other tech channel. This is super cool
GN: What you should do is recommision this into Roboclocker, thats what you should do.
KINGPIN: Its not a bad idea.
