There’s an exploit to skip finding the carvings. After you meet him the first time, try to enter the cabin and immediately save the game while on the porch. Reload the game and you can just enter the cabin and grab the compass.

This is crazy. I just remember talking to this guy. Showing up at the cabin and able to go inside. Blew my mind when I found the compass, cause I knew it was much rarer than just walking in and grabbing it. No idea how it just let me... I've never found a single cave drawing.

I believe that’s the one you get from Rains fall. Do the mission where you find the burned out campsite and Arthur has to sneak down and get the chanupa, if you get it back without killing anyone, then he will give you the trinket
