박하우스가 '건반 위의 사자'라면 아르헤리치는 암호랑이쯤 될 것이다. 거침없고 공격적인 타건을 일컫는 말이리라. 하지만 그녀의 모든 음반 가운데서도 가장 공격적이고 무시무시한 음반을 찾으라면 바로 이 음반이 될 것이다. 두 곡 모두 실황 녹음으로 시종 팽팽한 긴장이 듣는 이를 압도하며 모든 템포와 감정은 도를 넘어선 느낌을 주지만, 감상 후의 만족감은 어떠한 음반도 따라올 수 없다. 맑은 음색을 내는 원초적인 강인함을 지닌 타건이 빠른 템포 속에서 작렬하는 차이코프스키는 예전의 아바도와의 음반을 훨씬 뛰어넘는다. 추진력과 힘을 바탕으로 비단 같은 섬세함과 강철같은 견고함을 넘나들며 보기 드문 열정을 표출하는 라흐마니노프도 일품이다. 차이코프스키만 단독으로 발매되었었는데 불과 30여분밖에 안 되는 수록시간임에도 애호가들의 전폭적인 지지를 받았었다. 몇 년 전 라흐마니노프 3번과 커플링되면서 협주곡 음반 사상 최고의 '필업'이라 불리고 있다. - 음반 설명
