Probably due to poor WiFi connection, also once you have more than 5 / 6 Sonos speakers it’s 100% worth buying a Sonos boost. It massively improves any multi room Sonos setup (they work as a mesh with the boost as they were designed to). WiFi support was only really added to compete with other WiFi speakers, you really need a Boost for best performance.
They should be on their own 2.4 network and ideally one should be hard wired or use the Boost. I have two houses with 40 units spread across the two with no issues at all.@@jamescollins6085
This wasn't mean to be a review of just the Ikea speakers, its a review of how they work with the Sonos interface that these speakers are meant to be able to work with.
no Auxillery input really sucks since theres clearly space to just add either a 1/4" jack, 3.5mm jack or 2.5mm jack and with the lack of an option to wire another speaker to create a stereo setup
Hey Alex, Couple of things that might be causing you these issues. Been on with Sonos support for about 6 hours and narrowed it down to the fact that if you’re running iOS 13 beta the app is majorly buggy. There are also major issues with the current firmware of BT SmartHub 6/Complete mesh Wi-fi. Causing DHCP connection issues when adding speakers and also when playing back content. Hopefully it’s one of these issues causing the ikea x sonos to misbehave and not broken speakers. I have a pair of Play 1’s that we’re exhibiting the exact same issues as in the video.
Good comment. But "...Been on with Sonos support for about 6 hours..." sums it up. It's a speaker. You shouldn't need a quarter of an hours' support to get it working. One problem is the lack of manual setup possibilities. Another is the poor Android support. I have a comprehensive network setup at home (wired and WIFI) with various smart devices, audio and video streaming, even a couple of Raspberry Pi's. Everything works. But not the Sonos - it was a most unreliable and frustrating product. The idea is great and the hardware pretty solid. Sound quality very acceptable. But the software.....dreadful.
Hi. Came across your video by accident. Beside a Sonos soundbar under my tv I have my whole audio system by Ikea Symfonisks in my entire house: 7 bookshelf speakers and 3 lamp speakers. One lamp speaker in the living room has been set up as a sub woofer (max bass and little treble) as the bass of this one (generation1) has a good bass performance. It saved me hundreds of euro’s compared to the sub by Sonos. I wasn’t familiar with the Sonos system before buying the Symfonisks so my first experience with installing it was “like the first time…..”. And no: it didn’t hurt. All went smoothly. Anyway, thnx for your video and grtz from the Netherlands.

@@alexeez1 You can also use a Sonos Boost (formerly Bridge) to create the Sonos network, at a convenient place to hard-wire such as your router's location. I bought a Symfonisk shelf speaker at the weekend. Never used a Sonos device before. I plugged directly into the router with the supplied cable. Down loaded the app for iPad (to use Trueplay). Synched and updated in 2 mins. Played music from my iMac iTunes library via Airplay, no issues. Plus have used the TuneIn radio function. Works and sounds great. If you're using mesh networking try to plug in one of them into hardwire and use Sonos own mesh networking. I've had issues with loads of smart devices on BT mesh because can't split 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz and Sonos only works on 2.4Ghz.
Yeah bought a pair of Symfonisk Lamps on Saturday - bit of nightmare to set up which I think is entirely to do with the Sonos app not the speakers themselves. I had to connect the speaker to wifi via my phone before I could get the Sonos app to complete the setup properly. But once working the speakers are fantastic play flawlessly through Apple Music and Amazon Music. I also set them up as rear surround speakers paired with my Sonos Beam - fantastic surround sound! And playing music via the Beam with the Symfonisks as ambient surrounds greatly improves the Beams music sound capability. Overall very pleased.
Plug the ethernet cable directly into the back of each speaker - mine wouldn’t set up until I did this - once I’d done that and set them up, I could unplug it and place it anywhere I wanted for wireless sound - the set up initially was a bit lame, but once I hardwired set up and then went wireless, they both work perfectly and sound awesome

I did later install a wired network as I'm working from home and have loads of devices and it all works better wired, quicker to respond.
Hmmm I use both a Sonos beam and the Symfonisk and they where so easy to set-up and use..... not sure why you had so many issues ....... Easy to set-up yes it took time to update but heck what electronic items don't but once updated.... awesome.
It's your network. Test by plugging one of the Sonos speakers into your router via Ethernet. If it works OK on Ethernet, then you need to fix your wireless network configuration.
Try two lamp speakers or two bookshelf , but never mix the models as they are not compatible to connect , Sonos do state this on their instructions . Sonos speakers of the same model can be bonded together as a single room in the Sonos app, providing a wider stereo experience. This article will show you how to create a stereo pair with your speakers. Note it says same model so two lamps but do not mix a lamp and a bookshelf speaker . this is where you went wrong . I nearly made the same mistake except the guy in ikea knew this and said do not mix or you will have wi fi connecting problems , , always buy in same model two lamps or two bookshelf .
So, I have the Sonos Beam, Sub and Ikea Bookshelf speaker. Not one gives me issues. Updates take no more than a minute. App works well. Did trueplay tuning on all, and that makes a world of difference. There are better sounding speakers, but not as convenient.
So... I recently bought the Symfonisk lamp speaker and it just wouldn't join my Sonos system here at home. I tried for a good couple of hours with no luck, then I did something which really shouldn't have made any difference - but it did! I rebooted my Interner router (responsible for handing out IP addresses via DHCP) and bingo, it joined Sonos straight away!!
Alan Hope The hardware of the IKEA Sonos are not trash, there’s legit comments saying these speakers (software and hardware) work fine. Alex is legit having a problem which is known it affects both IKEA x Sonos and Sonos products. There’s a reason he’s liking the comments saying the app’s trash 😂
sounds like the same problem I have with my LG sound bar. It works as its suppose to with the TV but when I use bluetooth to my phone it takes like 5min of it turning the volym up and down and puseing it. And like 1/10 times it just works.
Thanks! I've been trying to get these speakers to use as surrounds for a Sonos beam, but Ikea won't ship them. I think I'm just going to forget about them and get some Sonos Ones.
i think you should maybe try a factory reset of the devices and try again, maybe even with a different phone on a different network cause ive seen many other reviews of Simfonisk this past week that are raving about how easy it is to use and how great it sounds, just considering that it took 45 min to setup seems a bit fishy to meand maybe warrants a round 2 before shelving them for 2 months
everybody is being a dick to this guy but it was well shot and he tried...just...don't show off your car it's super egotistic and has nothing to do with reviewing the speakers. I like the bookshelf style speaker.
SO funny that they do not work with you... Setting up didn't even took me 2 minutes per speaker. So there is probably something wrong with your network!! And it works awesome...
Got the bookshelf one as well, loses connection every minute, while I know for sure I have a super stable Wifi connection where it is placed. Had to connect them with ethernet, which kinda sucked.
MY only issue with these speakers when i bought then i didnt realize they are not suitable as computer speakers. I like to watch movies from my desktop and youtube, really not into that only mobile devices it is compatiblee to.
I have 2 of the bookshelf and took less than 5 mins to set up and sounds exactly like my sonos play one’s. same set up same sound same everything just that the bookshelf has IKEA on the label and half the price.
This is an issue in the Sonos app, not the speakers. As a reviewer that uses Sonos speakers you should really have figured this out before slamming the speakers. There are known issues using the likes of Apple Music or Spotify through the Sonos app.
I think these are actually excellent VFM, it’s just a shame that the Sonos ecosystem is so locked in. I already have Linn DS systems in the living room, dining room and office and those work on a standard DLNA network, if the Sonos products did, they would be in the bedrooms and the kitchen... but they don’t, I’d need two libraries on my server.

I think you have been unlucky mine plays fine and a couple of things you can airplay and the wall mount comes with a rubber mat
So... I recently bought the Symfonisk lamp speaker and it just wouldn't join my Sonos system here at home. I tried for a good couple of hours with no luck, then I did something which really shouldn't have made any difference - but it did! I rebooted my Interner router (responsible for handing out IP addresses via DHCP) and bingo, it joined Sonos straight away!!
sonos play 1 in my country is 2x the price at ikea
what an epic trip to Ikea and with such candid footage!
I see him liking comments about how it’s the apps fault. But still has the title basically saying these speakers are trash?
But indeed they are, they don't produce any music as they are supposed to, and they are not cheap, ... that sounds a bit trash to me.
Wouldn’t help that the sonos up is crap. We got those errors all the time just using any of our sonos units
Mine work great and the sound quality is up to par with the Ones. Would purchase them again in a heartbeat!
Inside it is their Sonos ones , I’ve seen a tear down. Even has the new chip they changed. Good way to get a Sonos one on the cheap.
H4NDCRAFTED play ones
Really? Had 4 of them installed in 20mn. No problems or what so ever....price/ quality is great.
Oh I just want the review not the whole process. Especially the driving.
He drives a BMW, 'nuff said.
fun to see people struggle with the swedish words but this was one of the better attempts :)
So your sayin if I already have a sonos lamp, and if I get the shelf speaker, they can't pair with eachother to play the same music as the same time?
C’mon dude this is obviously your Wi-fi haha - plug in an Ethernet cable and see if it springs to life
This guy just sold me the speaker because I really don't like him. And the beginning with the car was unnecessary.
sounds like the same problem I have with my LG sound bar. It works as its suppose to with the TV but when I use bluetooth to my phone it takes like 5min of it turning the volym up and down and puseing it. And like 1/10 times it just works.
Can I use these speakers for my tv?
You would need to buy some expensive hardware from Sonos unless you are using an Apple TV which you can use AirPlay with
I bought the shelf one, and it only used like 2 minutes to update ! Works nice and sounds pretty good, when you think of the price
Airplay or Spotify connect will work better than the Sonos App. I don't like the Sonos App at all tbh.
A single speaker is great for listening to stereo music, i would never waste my money on junk like this. he is right
They work fine the app is just a crash bug
Does it work with Spotify over Wifi using Android?
Super, super right off the bat awesome guys. F's sake. I'm too old to be in here. Where's the door?
everybody is being a dick to this guy but it was well shot and he tried...just...don't show off your car it's super egotistic and has nothing to do with reviewing the speakers. I like the bookshelf style speaker.
11:00 bruh... i setup 6 of them all trough my house, and it took me like 45 mins (including placing and cable management...)
Get the Sonos Boost. That will resolve the buffer/connectivity issues.
Any vlogs soon?
he uploaded one earlier
SO funny that they do not work with you... Setting up didn't even took me 2 minutes per speaker. So there is probably something wrong with your network!! And it works awesome...
Got the bookshelf one as well, loses connection every minute, while I know for sure I have a super stable Wifi connection where it is placed. Had to connect them with ethernet, which kinda sucked.
I sounds like the actual problem with the system is YOU! lol
I personally have had no problems with them. Setup also only took 5 mins or so.. ;)
This is an issue in the Sonos app, not the speakers. As a reviewer that uses Sonos speakers you should really have figured this out before slamming the speakers. There are known issues using the likes of Apple Music or Spotify through the Sonos app.
IVE GOT THESE SPEAKERS AND I HAVE TO SAY THEY ARE BRILLIANT, FOR THE PRICE AS WELL.jay
Checkout the Stu's review review of thie symphonisk. He didn't have any major issues with it and it seemed to play reliably.
The Sonos app is exactly the same with my play 1’s
I think these are actually excellent VFM, it’s just a shame that the Sonos ecosystem is so locked in. I already have Linn DS systems in the living room, dining room and office and those work on a standard DLNA network, if the Sonos products did, they would be in the bedrooms and the kitchen... but they don’t, I’d need two libraries on my server.
